Bottom line is the swords duels in the PT goes against everything Lucas said during the OT. If I remember right he said that the Light Sabers where to heavy and you needed 2 hands to hold it steady and fight with it.

Of course that went right out the window when the fight between Luke and Vader in Episode V consisted of a lot of one handed fighting.

Um, I devoured pretty much every piece of information I could get on the OT when they were being produced and I don't remember Lucas talking about the duels. Kindly point out the contradictions please, exact words, thanks.

It never was inside the window, considering Luke uses his Dad's Saber in ANH one handed.

There's a commentary or documentary on the DVDs where Lucas says that he told the actors to imagine that the lightsabers weighed 50-60 pounds (originally at least) and, as such, had to be used with two hands.

That's really vague. Commentary? Documentary? For what film?

"My brother's roommate's cousin's best friend told me Lucas said..."

I know it is, and I apologize. I accidentally left my DVD collection at home today. I typically bring it to work just to gaze at it and with the hope that maybe - just maybe - someone on the Internet will ask me a question about it.

Look it up yourself. Your refusal to believe us isn't our problem.

Yeah, that's BS. And, until someone posts a link of exactly where that is from, it will remain BS. 50-60lbs, gimmie a break. I'll concede if someone posts definitive info. Until then......BS!

My guess is I could provide you a quote from the commentaries and you'd still call it "BS" (twice, probably). But again, it's your choice not to believe us. You're right, we're wrong. Surely we're all making it up because, hey, it's fun.

Nah man. Just let me know where the commentary is from (DVD, VHS, LD, other source) or post a link to an article. Simple.

Don't forget guys, that when Mace was about to deliver that final killing blow to Palps, he drew back on his saber so that he would be able to deliver enough force to eradicate him, which also gave Anakin the opening to strike Mace down.

I always wondered why Mace did that, now it FINALLY makes perfect sense.

It doesn't matter anyhow, because it wasn't used as a concept in any of the films of the Saga, so it's irrelevant, and it's not discussed in the movies themselves.

Re: The 50-60 pounds thing. It's Mark Hammil that says that in one of the documentaries. It's not official canon. It was just Lucas telling the actors to pretend the sabers weighed a lot, because he wanted them to appear to have some weight and heft on camera. Especially since the actual props were really light. He didn't want them to look like they had no heft at all to them. And that there was a noticeable power to the ignited blade.

Someone asked the question, so I'd say the answer is indeed "relevant". If, as suggested, Lucas told Hamill to imagine the prop was 50-60 pounds when he was using it, then I'd say it's "used as a concept in [one] of the films of the Saga."

What are you trying to say?

This is true. I think I saw this on the OT DVD Bonus features disk. But can't really remember.

Is that the OT SE DVD or the UOT DVD's?
