I thought they were banned from ever seeing theatrical re-release by GL because they are workprints.

The Theatrical Prints may not be that accurate after 30+ years. I can't believe the purpleness was ever meant to be that high on the DVD's or what GL intended originally, I think somewhere in between will be a happy medium.

It was all Indiana Jones' fault if those DVD hadn't been so popular they wouldn't have rushed the Star Wars DVD's into production. Don't blame George blame Indy!

That's what I do not understand.

They were released in September, so what would two more months of 'quality control' have hurt?????

Would a November release of the DVDs have really been a crime?

Exactly! Qaulity control is huge when you have such a geeky fanbase (I admit, I am in that group) that demands perfection. All the DVD releases of the OT have been sadly lacking. From color/sound issues to non anamorphic treatements of the theatirical editions, its just been a sad treatment of a great franchise. Even the Phantom Menace dvd leaves a bit to be desired to be honest.

I will just say this, a fan should never have to take it upon himself to color correct your dvds and release (what I believe) to be actually better special editons of your movies. Ya all know what I am talking about and I cannot wait for Empire.

Those aren't quality control issues just as a story defect isn't a quality control issue. Quality control issues are when some discs work and some don't or when there is a defect in the master. Color timing and the non-anamorphic releases are conscious decisions, good or bad. They might be the wrong decisions and may result in a poor product, but it's not a QC issue.

I think you and I have different defintions of quality control? I feel that if it can easily be fixed by delaying a month or two then it easily falls into quality control. Otherwise you release a poor product which is exactly what QC tries to prevent. When you release something that looks NOT the way it is actually intended to look, then you have a quality issue, no? Audio channels reversed doesn't qualify as quality control to you either I suppose? I mean, c'mon man, I love Star Wars as much as the next guy, but something was broken on those DVDs and its an easy fix....

...so easy a fix that a guy on his PC was able to do it. Now story changes, whatever. I could care less how many shots Greedo gets off before he is blasted. I do like the changes said 'guy on his PC' made though. Great work.

From Wikipedia.

Quote:
Quality control is a process by which entities review the quality of all factors involved in production. This approach places an emphasis on three aspects:

1.Elements such as controls, job management, defined and well managed processes, performance and integrity criteria, and identification of records.
2.Competence, such as knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
3.Soft elements, such as personnel integrity, confidence, organizational culture, motivation, team spirit, and quality relationships.

The quality of the outputs is at risk if any of these three aspects is deficient in any way.

Quality control emphasizes testing of products to uncover defects, and reporting to management who make the decision to allow or deny the release, whereas quality assurance attempts to improve and stabilize production, and associated processes, to avoid, or at least minimize, issues that led to the defects in the first place. For contract work, particularly work awarded by government agencies, quality control issues are among the top reasons for not renewing a contract.

If you get the OT, you get 4 blu-rays - the 3 movies, & 1 bonus blu-ray of extras.

If you get the PT, you get 4 blu-rays - the 3 movies, & 1 bonus blu-ray of extras.

If you get the Complete Saga, you get 9 blu-rays - the 6 movies, plus both of the bonus blu-rays, and another blu-ray with more bonus features.

Yeah, if you're getting both trilogies, you're going to just want to get the single, "saga" release.

Yup, you'll want to grab the complete set if you're looking to own all 6 episodes.

It's great, I've never owned a complete SW set. I just have the 2004 OT DVD set and the individual PT DVD's.

Man, I really wish the theatricals were included... I keep going back and forth in my mind on this. Do I want to drop the cash this Sept or wait it out until the next set which may include them? Bah! I might just buy the PT... I dunno.

No one knows what will be on the bonus discs, but yeah, if it costs the same, why not get the "extra" extra disc.
