Bummer, I'd love to have SW on my laptop and iPod.

Well, they don't really need a disc to do a digital copy anymore. Just a code for itunes or whatever. So, it really wasn't obvious to be honest. On my Scott Pilgram blu ray, it just came with a code, no extra disc needed.

This again? We've already done the debate over that same quote at least two previous times, as well as the debate over the Hayden/Shaw ghosts. Maybe this thread should be locked until there's more news.

We could discuss the weight of lightsabers again?

Didn't he also say something about visuals coming after story at one time? That's one of the biggest reasons why people hated the new SW movies...

Which is still true. Special Effects are the tool of telling the story. The films do have a story, you know.

I'm sure despite what he said, someone will argue it was taken out of context. Also, pretty sure someone will shortly demand that you provide a quote, link, YouTube video, or an affidavit re: that alleged quote.

Yes, the PT do have a lot of special effects. But that's why Lucas started with the trilogy he did.

We can go all retro in this thread and talk about 'Han shooting first'. I don't mind go over things again. Let's face it once the BD's are out we'll only complain about damaged packaging, price and why hasn't it arrived yet. Because I think it's going to be amazing.

I'm still hoping that pre-orders will be send an Early Bird Certificate with promises of redeeming your cardboard discs with blu-rays in the not to distant future. That would be awesome.

Yeah, it just suffers under the crushing weight of the CGI. Lucas seems to have spent way more time designing the backgrounds and new aliens than on writing a good story.

The dull, excessively polished, lifeless environments seem to sever any kind of connection I try to make to the characters in the PT... Take for example the lightsaber battles. The choreographed "show" just drains the drama out of what's supposed to be a battle to the death, whereas in the OT, you had no-nonsense duels that focused on the characters and not on cool jumps or flips.

Yeah. I mean the great thespians in the Original Trilogy doing their modern rendition of Shakespearean classics is in such contrast. NOT. lulz. Hate to break this to you, but all 6 movies have the same derivatively synthesized plot and the SFX of the 70s with strings and stop motion were equally scorned by the grognards of the Golden Age.

But it was always intended to be campy kid-oriented schtick reminiscent of the serials Lucas grew up with and that's part of their charm and why I still love them despite their originally archaic SFX. It's just you don't have the rose-collared goggles of nostalgia giving you bias towards the prequels and wondering why he 'raped' your childhood.

So I guess we shouldn't expect a Criterion release on these?

Yeah we can expect them in 2013 when George Lucas' world ends.

And that's not some snide comment on him kicking the bucket soon we all know his beard grants him immortality.

That's Chuck Norris. Besides, Lucas probably has probably set up a Living Trust with instructions to never release the theatrical cut and with some pre-specified additional alterations to make in 2015 and 2021

Considering he has three kids and an entire organization to control the films, his vision will remain intact.
