Because he hates those (not sure about the Ewoks cartoons though).

Actually, yes. Because he was originally gonna release them even later than '04, and he only decided to release them when he finally did because he discovered that DVD sales were at last strong enough for him to keep milking it over and over, which is something that he even indirectly admitted to in an interview.

BUT he is going to keep rereleasing it as the work progresses - one iteration at a time. Similar to Microsoft, he will change the name to make it easier to understand. For example:

Star Wars Episode IV will have the following identifiers:

Starwars V4-1977 - A New Hope
Starwars V4-1997 - A Newer Hope with cooler lasers.
Starwars V4-2011 - Still Hoping but now in HD
Starwars V4-2013 - Hope isn't lost - but we fixed some more stuff.
Starwars V4-2017 - Hope you'll buy this - in 3D
Starwars V4-2023 - No Hope for the orginal actors - all gone thanks to CGI!
Starwars V4- 2039 - The ultimate collectors set - now with digital copy!
Very funny. But this comment suddenly has me very worried for the future when the studios have finally done away with physical media and have fully transitioned to downloadable content only. There will be a tiny print disclaimer when you purchase these films that you are merely licensing his current vision of the films and that is subject to change at any time. In that case George Lucas will totally outlaw the original versions and anytime your player is connected to the internet it will automatically check for the newest version of these films and overwrite the older iterations of it.

That's an incredibly silly argument. Waiting until there's enough people to make the work put into the DVD versions worthwhile is really "Milking It"? Are you serious? All studios do that, it's called common sense. It's not like those DVD releases were a cheap affair. And if it was strong enough to keep milking it over and over, then why is there only two legitimate releases after that point? And please, he never admitted anything of the sort. Waiting until the market adoption rate on DVD Players is large enough to release something is hardly milking it. That argument doesn't even make sense.

Apparently the Boogie Man must wear flannel. Cause the conspiracy theories make Oliver Stone's look like accepted history.

Well by boogie man I was meaning Lucas of course!

You know the guy who dare's release his movies on different format, he is such a milker. No other director/studios dare do stuff like that to their loyal hard working customers. Only the evil man Lucas does stuff like that.

He is such a evil man, not like the great James Cameron, who does not do things like that. He only release the same movie 3 times on Blu-ray in one year. Yeah! I can see how Lucas is so evil.

Of course. Lucas should have released them on VHS way back when and then never again!

It's not like people were asking for better releases on newer formats. They clearly would have been happier sticking with VHS.

And since that is true, why should he bother releasing the original versions on BLU-Ray. After all, everyone is happy with VHS.

And they certainly wouldn't want to be "milked" by buying those original versions on the new format. So everyone wins!

Oh yeah you're right, I totally remember how so many other studios waited until 2004 to first release so many beloved classics on DVD. I guess your right, all studios do do that. I mean, it's not like releasing them early on might have actually caused the DVD rate of adoption to increase faster or anything stupid like that. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I beg to differ considering that the DVD's had numerous color issues and audio glitches, which plenty of people complained about. And in typical Lucas fashion, instead of fessing up to it, he stupidly tried to convince everybody that they were deliberate creative choices.

Check the major releases of 2004. Hell, ET was only released 2 years earlier.

In 2004 you also had Schindler's List and Gone With The Wind. And numerous other major releases.

Do you honestly believe that ever major release but Star Wars was released on DVD the day it came out?

Missed the point, didn't you. Even taking into consideration the few problems some find with the releases, they were not cheap slapped together affairs. Wipes and Star Fields were redone, some of the '97 SE effects were improved such as ANH's Jabba. And you also had the amazing "Empire Of Dreams" documentary. So it's not like they just threw the movies on a disc and called it a day. And all of this took time and money.

You're misquoting and mangling what was said, to try to prove a point that makes no sense.

So is your complaint that he's released them too frequently or that he hasn't released them frequently enough?

Another good question. I'm sure if he had released them earlier, he could have squeezed more re-releases in.

Since you're complaining that he didn't release them the day that DVD was released to the market.

Rather than waiting until the DVD consumer base was a respectable ammount to justify it.

First of all, I never said he should have released them the day DVD debuted, but he didn't have to wait forever to release them, especially since there was so much demand for it. And considering what we got, I almost wish he hadn't released them after all.

Second, I still don't get how you would take that as a complaint that he hasn't released them frequently enough, because it's anything but that. I would've preferred a release of the original unaltered trilogy fully restored earlier on in the format with the special editions as an option for anybody that actually wanted them, like say in 2000 or 2001 or something like that (which, like I said before, I'm sure would have helped drive the rate of DVD adoption even faster.) and then that would be the only release for a while (until the next format came along of course). But I guess there's really no point in dwelling on that now.

You realize he was very busy working on the prequels during the period you mentioned, right?

That's also one of the reasons why the DVDs weren't released any sooner. So again, the 2004 release made sense.
