Whatever preference anyone might have, everyone here must agree that giving us both versions would have been the best option, right? Regardless of the fact that you might enjoy the SEs more, there's no reason (apart from Lucas' stubbornness) they shouldn't have been included.

Exactly KubrickFan. Why is it so hard for so many people to grasp that?

I bet that commercial moved Lucas.... moved him to a bigger house!

Lots of peeps are 'drinking the Lucas kool-aid' is all. I agree that it would be the best possible solution to include both versions (f man, the Alien Films do...and they don't have the following the Star Wars films do). Its just simple logic. I don't understand why someone so in love with the process of making movies wouldn't want to offer both visions? That way he can showcase how much work went into the original version and how easy it was with new tech to fix older issues. Would be kind of neat from a film making/film geek P.O.V.

At the risk of oversimplifying this, isn't it probably just a financial choice? Maybe the majority of DVD (and BD) purchasers really don't care.

The only way I see the theatrical cuts making it is if Lucas goes Planet Terror on their ass and scrunches them up, jumps up and down on them, set fires to them un-restores them just so he can say "I told you they'd look terrible on Blu-ray!" Star Wars The Grindhouse Experience.

Damn I just give him an idea! Back to Lucasfilm rep "we're sorry to report that the original restored negatives of the much beloved original Star Wars Trilogy was tragically burnt and then shreaded then burnt again in an undisclosed industrial accident. George Lucas is thought to be delighted.... I mean devasted."

That's it exactly. The vast majority will buy whatever's released and cheaper.

Besides the point. Did they say, "this is the last time the originals will be issued unless we decide to stick them on a later release as a bonus"? No.

Agreed. I doubt they even pay attention to the vocal minority, they know it will sell and sell very well. They also know that a good portion of the vocal minority will still buy it, despite the complaints.

Lets all simmah down here! It was just a marketing ploy. They had no idea what their strategy for releasing the star wars films would be ten years down the road when they said 'Own them for the last time ever!' promotion. Disney does the same darn thing and nobody is crying over that. You either fall for it, or ya don't.

Disney's schtick is old news but other than that it is a poor comparison since it isn't Disney issuing Star Wars, had it been we would all go "Yeah, r-i-g-h-t...".

lol that's entirely the point. It's incidental that there is a whole extra set of the movies included that is far better quality? WRT to this thread, that marketing blurb means the choice of original unaltered trilogy by themselves is GONE. The only choice is an Ultimate set with both or SE only. Anyone who only wants unaltered trilogy has 2 choices: Previously used LD or VHS release or Bootleg aka "fan edit."

Wasn't the official line that they destroyed the original negative (for ANH) making the SE? Yeah, they could redo one (and there's always DI's), which is usually where the "too expensive" response from LFL comes in. Which we've already discussed a couple times. Yeah, they could probably afford it, but doesn't mean that it's a good business decision, especially given the like veracity of Monkey's point. In any case, sounds like it was a decision down from the top that they would never release them alone again.

Same concept as its marketing causing a lil panic button in your brain to go off and say "I must buy these now or I will never have them!." You got played if you fell for it.

Just a heads, but this star wars complete Saga coming out, it just might be the LAST TIME EVER they release star wars like this. So, you might want to like grab 9 copies just incase. Keep one in the wrapping dude, it could be worth like a 30 dollars someday....

Great, thanks a lot man. Now George is going to change the current versions to include this kid as young Anakin, and he'll replace the replacement Anakin at the end of Jedi with this kid. Damn you man.

But he's got the just became Darth Vader cyborg walk down a treat. And he can make VW's come to life with his mind.

I see a parody of this where his dad leaves the car in gear and runs over the kid when he presses the button. Keyfobs can do this right? And Obi-Wan's ghosts laughs his ass off in the background.
