It was 18 years later, not a few. And it's not like it was his droid. He doesn't even seem all that broken up with when his own R4 gets decapitated by the bad droid on his fighter in Ep3, either. Anakin is the guy who was real close to droids, not Obi-wan.

Vader could well have been thinking to himself... hmm I had my 3P0 polished up like that... but even if he did notice it, does Vader never struck me as the sentimental type.

I don't mind the kiss that Leia gives Luke in ESB (she didn't know) but I hate his reaction... In ANH, it looked like Luke was trying to discourage Han from putting the moves on Leia (because he wanted her for himself) but they could have spinned it like Luke was protecting Leia from Han in a brother-sister way. But that reaction in ESB kind of destroys that.

I agree but Obi-wan and 3PO really had one of the most moving scenes in the PT's, after his battle with Anakin. I don't think he would have forgotten it. Obi-Wans not that bothered about Clone Troopers either. I still think if you placed a dozen cars in a row the same model that I have, I'd pick mine out. Don't test my mum though as she's often seen trying to get into random red MPV's. It doesn't even have to be the same manufacturer....

Or maybe it's just an inconsistency.

R2-D2 was with Ben every step of the way in the PT. He definitely would have remembered him. Guess those droids weren't originally intended to be companions of younger OT characters until they became popular with fans.

Wait, is it possible Ben got his mind wiped too? It would explain a lot.

Maybe he hit his head on something before ANH. Maybe he has some sort of desert cabin fever.

He was alone on Tatooine for a long time with nothing but Luke and his thoughts, it's possible that dementia set in a bit.

LOL, I edited my post suggesting that even before I saw your post.

It works as an explanation! I mean, as long as we can make stuff up.

With regards to Vader, 3PO and Bespin one of the books I think Star Wars tales has a short story were Vader finds his former Droid.
suck it up to old age.

More likely dementia set in with Lucas.

He was an old fossil remember? One of the things a dislike about the PT's is that they make Obi-Wan look a bit senile for the sake of wrapping things up in a neat little bow.

There is a bizarre level of consistency to the inconsistencies of all six films. You get the sense that each one was made without the forethought to perhaps check and see if any of it would work as one long story.

Maybe George Lucas is where Jonathan Nolan got the idea for Memento?

Wouldn't Obi-Wan acknowledging R2, and even 3PO, open up a whole can of worms that he's not ready to get into? He's about to tell Luke some vague details about him knowing Anakin and about him being betrayed and murdered by Darth Vader. Clearly, Obi-Wan doesn't want Luke to know all the details of the past, so wouldn't saying something like, "Hey R2, it's good to see you again!" just create more questions from Luke than Obi-Wan is ready to answer at that time? And what would be the point of addressing C-3PO when 3PO had his memory wiped and wouldn't remember Obi-Wan anyway?

He could have just said that he worked with the droid during the Clone Wars.

I always thought of it as a simple slide of hand. First off, Obi-wan never acknowledges or Not-acknowledges KNOWING the droids. He simply, slyly, says 'i don't recall OWNING a droid'.

R2 was the property of either the Republic or the Jedi, so what he said was true, "from a certain point of view."

Yeah, he could have. But it's not information that Luke needs, it doesn't further the plot and it's not information that we the audience don't already know. So there literally would be no point to bringing it up.

Correct C-3PO wouldn't know Obi-Wan anyway. And he does greet R2-D2 with "Hello there! Come here, my little friend."
