Never said I don't like Empire Strikes Back. Just that its not my favorite.

It tends to fall around 3rd or 4th place in my favorites. Depends on my mood...

Right now....

The Phantom Menace
Revenge Of The Sith
Return Of The Jedi
Empire Strikes Back
Attack Of The Clones
A New Hope

RotS and RotJ flip flop all the time, depending on what sort of mood I'm in. The same is true with ESB and RotJ.

The only ones that are usually always in the same position is A New Hope. Since it's almost tedious to watch anymore.

Ok! here goes guys you probably know the answer to this one but lets try anyway:

In The Empire Strikes Back when Luke is standing on the platform at the end of his fight with Vader WE hear Vader say:

Vader: OBI-WAN NEVER TOLD YOU,WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FATHER.

Luke: HE TOLD ME ENOUGH, HE TOLD ME YOU KILLED HIM!

Vader: NO! I AM YOUR FATHER.

BUT

I believe he said: I killed your father.

However, there was an additional line shortly before Luke screams his next lines that very few people have heard. It was something like this:

"...but in 20 years, much like the dialogue to this scene, some things will be changed in post production. Like Greedo shooting first..."

Then came Luke's: "That's not true! That's impossible!" NOOOOO!!!"

Yup, for real!

Luke doesn't even know who Greedo is so I doubt he would care if he or Han shot first.

I remember hearing that lucas did this to throw people off the track and not reveal anything too soon.

It's the same reason he called ROTJ (BLUE HARVEST) to throw people off.

He also did this in ROTJ, no one knew why Luke went into a rage at the end.
His motivation was never revealed until Mark Hamill shot the scene.

More ESB trivia:

The lines we heard were:
Quote:
Yoda: Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.
Obi-Wan: That boy is our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.

What did Yoda and Ben originally say to each other as Luke's X-wing took off from Dagobah?
[P.S. I'll be tied up for the rest of the day, so I won't be able to come back and chime in for awhile.]

I thought the above was always the original dialogue.

It's just some humor injected into the review. The reviews, themselves, are well thought out. If you don't want to watch them, fine, but don't make conclusions about something you haven't seen. There are much more well thought out and expressed than most criticisms of the PT.

Saying Empire is boring is just plain silly, you either are not a true fan or just plan ignorant.

You realy need to wake up.
Hard to do when ESB is on; but, thankfully I put on the TV timer to shut the TV off. Otherwise, I would have been in an ESB enduced coma for most of the day.

Recently just found out that our local hospital uses ESB instead of anesthesia to put patients under for surgery. The down side is that it also knocks everyone else out in the room too.

He abandoned many concepts, retooled them for later films (not just for Star Wars either), etc. At one point, Luke was a girl. At another, his sister was a completely different person. Heck, he didn't decide to kill off Obi Wan until some point during production. Originally, he survived the Death Star, gave the attack plan to the rebels, and stood around for the rest of the film. Lucas told Guinness that he had decided to kill of his character and Guinness wasn't all that happy, until Lucas explained that it would have a greater impact on the film dramatically. At another point, ESB had a trip to Kashyyk and Han Solo left the group for a mission, not encased in carbonite. Leia rejected Luke for Han, but was intended to be left up in the air when Han left.

This is called Trial and Error. It's a really big process of writing. You'll also find it in filming and editing, as well as most artistic fields in film.

This doesn't mean Lucas is less of an artist. It just means that he was human. And, of course, his direction has changed over 20 years or so he wasn't directing. This happens with even the most productive filmmakers. There is no way I could connect The Terminator with Avatar or Close Encounters with Saving Private Ryan. Or Halloween with Ghost of Mars. Or Alien with Robin Hood. Well, you get the point. People change over time, and with it, their way of doing things. Well, usually at least.
Condescending much? My point was that Lucas LOVES to give it about how he had it all planned out blah blah blah, but the end result is one seriously choppy PT storyline, and the OT isn't immune either. I point my learned colleague in the direction of exhibit A: Luke and Leia turning out to be siblings.

Lucas is a documentary film-maker at heart, and that's how he goes about shaping his stories; it's all in the edit. It worked pretty well when he keep his stories simple (Star Wars, THX, Graffiti) and doing it kinda off the cuff. But apply that same style to a more densely layered story, i.e. the PT, and it fails miserably because too many dots are left unconnected by the constant chopping and changing.

This is from someone who loves all the Star Wars movies (and is currently digging Clone Wars big time!) BTW.

I think it's safe to assume that Beast and I will never find anything to agree on it. lol

Maybe it's time we all stop trying to convince each other that our respective positions and opinions are superior or "correct." A lot of the junk I see in here has to do with calling oneself a "true fan" and belitting others who don't share the same opinion of the PT, the OT, or the SEOT. So much condescending nastiness in here (I've been guilty of it too), and some are clearly more condescending and nastier than others, but in the end it makes us all look bad. lol
I watched Godfather on BD not too long ago, and I thought it was very well made, especially the score was fantastic, but it's not my cup of tea.
It's kind of similar to District 9 in that respect, as I acknowledge that it's an excellent film, but it's way too violent and gory for me.

I agree, we should be more tolerant, hold hands, and celebrate our love to SW by dancing all night long...
Sorry, I went a little overboard here.
No, but I think we should really focus on the positive side of things. The world is full of negativity as is, particularly the media, so it would be wise and wholesome for us to be civilized, friendly and positive!

[Show spoiler]But first I want to tell everyone who has anything bad to say about the PT, that they are no real SW fans, and should go to hell!

[Show spoiler]Just kidding!

The RLM reviews are interesting. I mean, I skip through the dumb crap like the bits of his basement or whatever. Not interested in seeing his "character" (is he supposed to be Buffalo Bill or something?) at all, but the other portions of his reviews are awesome. For example, in part 9 of the AOTC review there's a serious "Yoda montage" that is very effective at getting its message across and there are those funny bits, "Gungas, Gungans!" and "How do you know that? Wait, did you read the script?" It isn't all humor, but even in the serious parts he has funny editing and comments.

His explanations of the lack of drama is spot on. Especially when he compares the duels in the OT to the ones in the PT and some of the high action sequences that could have been better (the speeder chase in AOTC is a great example).

Calling it "just humor" or saying it's not to be taken seriously is just crapping on the guy's opinion because he happens to be popular. That doesn't seem fair as he is a SW fan expressing his opinions exactly like we all do. But this is typical of people who say things like, "Well you're not a billionaire or a filmmaker or a writer so you're not an authority here!"

I'd imagine the first thing Obi-Wan would have done when Luke was unsure about going to rescue the princess was mention she was his sister. "If you won't do it for me.... do it for your sister.... do it for your family...." Then we get five minutes of Luke moaning about why he had to grow up on Tatooine and she lived it up princess style.

Come to think of it why did Owen and Beru tell him he was adopted in the first place? Maybe he wouldn't have felt so isolated if he though he was their son....

I find Menace to be the most watchable of the pre's (despite Jar Jar), and Clones to be next to unwatchable. I really liked Liam Neeson as a Jedi, think Duel of the Fates is the best SW music since The Imperial March, and totally digged the lightsaber fight at the end.

For me, it goes:

Empire
New Hope
Jedi
Menace
Sith
Clones
