That's kind of what I have been thinking.
Maybe GL has already invented a way to upscale the films to 16K without noticable artifacts?

16K would be crazy, but pure awesomness!

At an ungodly cost, sure. They could re-create every single CGI shot at 8k.

Well, I probably wouldn't have shot them in 1080p, but financially it definitely made sense, since they would have to scan in the entire film anyway in order to combine it with the vfx, but regarding the PQ for the upcoming BD release:

I think they are going to look pretty darn good....and certainly the best they ever have.

I doubt the OT will look as good as the PT, due to the optical compositing and varieties of film stock used, but I'll wait to see them with my own eyes, before going crazy.

I think people are going to go nuts before the release!!

Sure, the ILM boys could redo them during a coffee break or two max..

This link is pretty nice, and I agree with Rick's thoughts there.

Aside from the obvious PT/OT divide I suspect the reaction to these will break down along another set of usual suspect lines: people who don't much care for grain are going to love AotC and RotS, people (like me) who think 'filmlike' is one of the nicest things you can say about a transfer probably won't be too displeased with the earlier films.

Same here. I don't mind grain at all. I'd rather put up with grain rather than the extra stuff that comes from bad attempts at removing it.

Is that the guy who thinks the digital crap Episode II was shot on is "indistinguishable from film"?

Rick is a Lucas front-man. Regardless of his film talents, I see him as nothing more than Georgie's little yes-man, because to be otherwise at Skywalker Ranch is to be unemployed (and there are many past employees that have confirmed this).

What is it with the name Rick in major sci-fi film franchises gone bad? Rick Berman almost singlehandedly guided the Trek franchise into oblivion.

Is this another star trek vs star wars debate?

Did you see anything in that post that pitted the two franchises against one another?
No? Then you have your answer.

Yeah, cause getting fired for some other reason certainly wouldn't turn the person into a lying and spiteful petty individual.

Rick is a producer. He is gonna go where the money is at. If it gets the bills paid, and serves the interest of the powers that be he will back them. Just like most producers. I try to stay neutral when it comes to producers.

Yeah. Movies should just feature two characters on an empty stage from now on.

On the Oscars, they just paid tribute to some of the people we lost in the last year. They showed pictures of Grant McCune, and Irvin Kershner.
