I wish they had made it rated-R, and had Anakin ripping out the padawan kids guts with his teeth!

Just kidding.

It depends on yours kids. You still can't blame Lucas for aging for the audience that was young when it was released. He doesn't have to aim for kids with all of them. That would be absolutely ridiculous.

I guess whats kinda interesting in all of this is, that if you wanted to introduce pre or grade schoolers to these movies, you could show them all of them with the one exception being RotS.

That reminds me of how I wish that AVATAR would have been rated-R.

Not kidding.

[Show spoiler]To me, Anakin killing a group of small children was a fantastic way to show how far he had changed. He really had reached the Dark Side.
It was senseless murder, and I'm glad they included it.
You're in the minority then, the death of George Lucas' little son in particular riled up a lot of people since little kids are responsible for most of George's considerable wealth.

Yeah, it upset and moved a number of people. Which means the scene worked as it was intended to.

Which also reminds me of way back in 1977 before I saw the movie, I started reading the novel but quit only after the first chapter. However from only that little bit that I had read and some of the pics in that novel, I assumed that Star Wars was a VERY dark movie, maybe even a R-rated one. And though I ended up loving the movie, I still wish that there was another darker R-rated version of it.

Maybe a re-boot can take care of that?

I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of that nature but due to cost and probable lack of box office success, I doubt we will see it happen.

You know what also works then? Not showing them the entire series until their older if it bothers you so much. Seriously, your argument is ridiculous. Don't show it to your kids unless you think they can handle. If they can, awesome. If not, just wait. I don't see as that big of a deal. It's not Lucas' fault that any kid can't handle the darkest part of the series. If they have nightmares, it falls on the parents, not the director. It's the parents job to know what their kids do and don't watch, and if they can handle it. They way you talk, nothing should be able to start as a kids story and evolve into something more. If thats the case, then Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars would not have been able to evolve into the epics they've become. That's just ridiculously unreasonable.

I don't see why a reboot is even necessary. There's no new direction to explore. I'm happy with the upcoming re-releases.

I can get at least another handful of The Phantom Menace viewings under my belt.

I would go see the 3D releases if they were R-rated but since 3D is the only real change, it's not worth it to me. Star Wars has always been kid-friendly, III aside, some of us are just curious what a more serious take on it would be like.

You do realize that the films were always intended to be more or less modern fairy tales for kiddies.

They never were meant to be serious films. Asking for that is ignoring what Star Wars is.

It sure as heck worked for 'Battlestar Galactica'.

You mean that modern series that isn't even worthy to carry the name? Bleh.

So was it by accident the entire universe was set up (due to the success)?

Because it's now so much more than just a series for kids (especially III, which goes from slapstick comedy to a beheading) with all the back-story and seriousness. The PT is pretty complex too... Hell, I didn't even quite understand what was going on and I was in HS.

Whoa now; episode three is the semi-awesome one from the prequels. The slapstick is episode 2. Me and my friend, username Blu-runner, watch episode two and laugh nearly the entire time. It's as good a comedy to us as Airplane.

That's the beauty of owning the DVDs (and soon to be Blu-ray). You can just skip the "bad" parts. That's how I got my daughter through EpIII when she was 6 at the time.

Also like that scene at the very end of RotJ that everybody is always talking about.
