You're supposed to read it as it's written. That the new series is vastly inferior to the old one.
Hence why I said it wasn't worthy in my eyes to carry the name of Battlestar Galactica.

I didn't misread anything.

Your intent was to shit on the new BSG and I called you out on it and now you are trying to backpedal and say that you simply meant that you "preferred" the original series.
No. My intent was just to note that I prefer the original BSG to the new version.

You're welcome to like the new version if you like. But to me, it'll always be subpar.

But it doesn't change the story one iota. That's the point.

It's no different than all the various retellings of classic fairy tales down through the centuries.

It wasn't a personal attack on your for having a different opinion. It was a personal attack for you not knowing that saying that the new show "isn't worthy to carry the name" is not the same as saying "I prefer the old one."

You obviously did not watch the new one so its not even possible for you to "prefer" the old one when you didn't even give the new one a chance. You just wrote it off and you are missing out.

But I digress. Let's get back to talking about this vastly overrated series of films that are only viewed as being the pinnacle of sci-fi due to nostalgia.

Hmm, see this is where you lose me. BSG (the new one) was still about the Slave Robots rebelling against thier masters and the basic idea and story was the same. Even started the same with a sneak attack by the Cylons destroying the colonies. The concept of the show was the same as before: Find Earth and flee the Cylon Armada. Its the same story, just with some tweaks (i.e. Cylons can look human and the special effects were updated) much like the Star Wars OT vs Altered. You, prefer the original series (which is fine) but you have to admit, not too much was changed. Just the style.

If the content of your post, despite your intent, is causing so much confusion, obviously you weren't successful at communicating your intent. The onus is on you to be clear. OOYFM.

Sure it is. My point was that I don't consider it worthy to carry the name.
It's a subpar revamp that tossed out all of the good stuff about the original series.

I think I watched the entire first season, and some of Caprica.
The show just didn't "Do it for me". The original was far superior in every way but budget.

For one, the Star Wars films are technically not even Sci-Fi films. They're fantasy films.
And for two, I have no delusions of the nostalgia factor. Since i see the OT as cheesy as the PT.
But I love both sagas, and enjoy them as a whole. Though I prefer the PT films on the whole.

Or maybe people shouldn't read into posts with their own bias and perceptions?

Yes, this is just like that. "And so King Arthur traveled on, except uh...now there was a lot of pointless chirping shit floating around him. The End"

So why is it okay to change anything up until the story itself is changed?

I mean, characters were changed. Han and Jabba come out of the SE's looking a bit weaker. I'd say characters are a pretty big part of the story.

The scenes changed and stuff (music, old Anakin) outright removed was part of the story yet that didn't stop Lucas.

This is a movie that came out recently, not an old fairy tale that spread by word of mouth...

All of this nonsense about the OT Theatrical and the SE versions

Give it a break.

On one hand Lucas should be offering both the OT theatrical and SE versions. But he is isn't so live with it.

But all this fighting about the SE versions is insane

The one thing about any SE version for any movie is the changes are valid as long as the changes are being done by the same director that created the vision.

People can criticize the SE versions, but the fact is since Lucas was the visionary he has the right to do so. If it was another director altering another director's vision that would be different. But Lucas has the right to update his own work and call it a different version and that is exactly what he did. If you do not like the SE versions instead of arguing then just don't buy them. They are a new valid version just like any other SE version or directors cut version of a movie.

No name calling is needed if people disagree.

Come on, Scooter. We have to have something to do until September. Or at least until the specs are revealed. At least the debate is more interesting than a single opinion being bandied about. Don't spit in our corn flakes.

I'm surprised that this excessively moderated forum hasn't moved this over to the Movies section. 99% of this thread is off-topic.

Yeah, except Lucas didn't direct Empire or Jedi. But that is just being a corrective ass.

However, the only issue I have with those two is the pacing was thrown off at the end of Empire. I can assume Vader made it back to his Star Destroyer safe and sound with the line: "Bring me my shuttle!" Quite frankly, I loved that line because he sounded fn pissed off which is how he should feel after learning his son would rather die than hang out with him. Sounds way to relaxed with the "Inform my Star Detroyer to prepare for my arrival." Jedi, I hate the added band song. Other than that I am okay with most of the changes in those films.

To be honest, I think if they do make more changes (and to line things up with the PT they probably should) it would be okay to add a few more ships to the Battle of Yavin. Make that look fn epic as the battle at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith seemed larger to all aspects. But that is about all I would really care about. If they don't make any more changes fine, but if they do, add some more to battles of Hoth/Yavin.

As I said many times, I am fine (as are most) with the special editons. Just would like to have the OT included is all. We can all hope and dream.
