That ending with R2 and 3PO being dug up sounds amazing. I can just hear the same music as at the ending of Revenge of the Sith now.

In all honesty, I don't see GL tying the series' together in any concrete way, but the fans are another story...

I forgot to mention, he also said that the droids being dug up on Earth was the main reason behind the A Long Time Ago opening.

Now I am starting to wonder if any part of the story takes place on Earth or if the droids just crash here? The only other thing I do remember (I'm not even sure if this came from Don or somewhere else) is that the only characters in every episode are the droids. While the main focus of the story so far has been the Skywalker boys (mainly Anakin), the real story is actually that of the droids. I'd bet, if the desert thing is true, that the nine episodes are actually (in good part) the droids' memories being read.

OG Pooh:

The very first thing that your post reminded me of was this blurb from starwars.wikia-

The "death" of C-3PO

"Many years later, C-3PO was found in a cave on an unknown planet, which was
[Show spoiler]home to the Vindar, by two youths by the names of Otalp and Remoh, who had been searching for him due to a vision from their Den-mother. He was missing both the lower half of his body, his arms, and even parts of his faceplate but was still semi-functional. At first, he simply muttered nonsense about "Master Luke" and "Artoo" in Basic but, when the two youths started to talk, he adjusted to their language. The trio had a brief conversation in which 3PO told the youths of his past adventures with Luke Skywalker. 3PO was shot by the Vindar a few moments later, but not before inspiring the two youths to start a revolution against the oppressive Vindar. His last gift to the galaxy was a green lightsaber found next to his destroyed body.[102]"

Hmmm...very interseting.

That's actually pretty cool. I'd never heard that story before. Why did Threepio have the lightsaber? Now I want to know more.

I really want to start reading more of the EU. The only parts that I have really read with any sincerity were the Thrawn trilogy, the Jedi Academy trilogy, the one where
[Show spoiler]Chewie dies
(Vector Prime?) and a couple of others including Tales from Mos Eisly & Tales of the Bounty Hunters. I basically gave up when they started coming faster than I had time to read them and when it was clear the majority were not canon in any regard. I'm just now starting to get into The Clone Wars series (on BD). I didn't bother initially because I didn't like the artistic style. Now, I really like it though. Besides, the storylines are great.

How do you plan on watching STAR WARS when it is finally released in september??

For me i will be watching it with my significant other and our friends, probably on the weekend what we do is we will watch the movies back to back with refreshments throughout the viewings, me and my partner have a big basement where we set up our reclining chairs and food trays and just kick back and enjoy.

So how will you be celebrating??

Fan edits are made out of a hobby more or less. Not to replace/bury the original film.

I watched Adywan's edit because I wanted to see if some guy on the internet could do a better job than Lucasfilm. I liked it more than the 2004 DVD version that I have (Greedo shooting removed, redundant Jabba scene removed) but that was it. Nothing tops the '77 SW.

I really hope further improvements will be made and a whole new Special Edition of the Saga will be put on Bluray and into cinemas in the coming years. Unfortunately the last thing I heard was John Knoll saying that no further changes will be made... Does anyone know how likely it is that effects will be further enhanced? Bluyoda maybe?

Hmm, now that you mention it and I think about it, I probably ought to go over to my girlfriend's parents' house and watch it with her/them. Their basement is decked out in a home theatre setup with a 52ish" TV and 5.1 surround complete with five reclining movie theatre seats. Plus, I'm pretty sure one of the framed posters on the walls is for Star Wars. Me, I have a 32" TV, no surround, and no posters.

Since when does Bluyoda have inside info or greater knowledge of the likelyhood of specific further changes than anyone else?

And why did you post this a second time? You posted the same thing earlier today a page or two back.

The speculation is that further 'improvements' are likely, but we don't have any idea of any specifics of what changes may occur or how extensive they will be.

Hopefully (IMO) one of the improvements, if more happen, will be correcting and updating the lightsaber effects in the OT. While I am generally in favor of the original versions, to me some of the most dating effects that stand out the most (in a negative way) are the OT lightsaber effects, which so far have gone pretty much untouched in the previous 2 sets of changes to the films (and were actually made worse looking in some cases with the 'color correcting' that was done to the 2004 release of the OT).

Probably going to be merged, but I always try to watch sets, especially one as big as Star Wars, straight through the first time by myself. Just to enjoy everything on my own once again in HD. Then after, friends and family

If they actually do a 5th Indy movie, maybe they could make it where Indy finds the droids, and they can become active and help him on his mission! Oh, think of the ranting that would cause!

I think if the Droids ended up been dug up on Earth it would have ruined the Saga for me. One of the reason why it's remained so popular and timeless is even though they're products of their time they don't depict them. It's a period piece. But not from Earth periods. It was probably an effect of Planet of the Apes cliffhanger. Lucas searched high and low from mythology and religion for story cues it wouldn't surprise me if POTA had a knock-on effect and GL wanting a 'what the hell?' ending. Thankfully all the star aligned and GL made a timeless classic.

@Dynamo of Eternia:

I know Bluyoda hasnīt more inside infos than any other member but since he is one of the few who really seems to be interested in the movies instead of whining about the theatrical cuts not being released on bluray I thought he probably could have read anything anywhere...

I posted my post a second time since the discussion seemed to have gone in a weird direction ...I mean the droids being dug up and stuff. Really!?

I'll be watching them on the on the 159" projection screen I just setup for my parents. Guess that means I'll have to wait for the weekend. Maybe I'll make that a second viewing instead, dont' know if I could wait that long.

This thread has been all over the place since the get-go, with multiple, rotating topics going on just about the entire time. Hell, there were lengthy discussions a while back regarding the weight of lightsabers and whether or not Threepio is a liar. The whole droids getting dug up came about during my reply to indefinentnj's post regarding where he thought epsiodes VII-IX might possibly go. If you don't want to be in that conversation, fine. But there's already been plenty of lengthy discussion and many posts regarding what may or may not be happening with special effects, altered scenes, added footage, etc, etc. Any discussion about one set of films that has gone on as long and into such detail as this thread has is weird in my book any way you look at it. Just sit back & enjoy.

I haven't thought about it. I'd like to say I'll have friends over & do a marathon with snacks, drinks & the whole nine, but if I know me, it'll probably get stuck on a shelf & watched whenever I have the urge to watch one of them (just like now).

If I do do a marathon, I just might insert Clone Wars between II & III. That would take like forever, but be awesome.
