Correct. FWIW, "Starkiller" is Galen's "code name" in TFU. As for TFU2, they took everything that made TFU 1 great and made it better except for the story. Still good, but not great like the first one. TFU2 is much shorter too. You should be able to plat it in an afternoon.

Perfect timing with the BD's coming.

At this point only George Lucas knows ....
well not only Lucas but you know what I mean.

It was said, that the Blu-Rays feature the latest Special Editions. In my book that means they have done another Special Edition. But I could be mistaken and they were referring to the edition of 2004 which made its way onto the DVDs.

I would take that to mean "The latest" as in, the most recently done editions..... not "new" edition.... I would think that if it were a "new" edition, they'd be promoting the heck out of that.

I agree. I don't think we will be seeing much of anything added to these as IF Lucas is going to make additonal changes he will probably do so with the 3-D Theatrical Releases and not the blu rays. He is going to need to give people a reason to go see Star Wars in 3-D and adding things in would make sense then, not now.

Actually, I found TFU's story better than Ep II. It was a very good bridge between RotS and ANH.

I think this stuff takes awhile too..... if the edition were to be any different, I would say that it would probably need to be completed by now..... they're probably knee-deep in the "remastering" process by now.

Not necessarily. When the OT was first released on DVD in 2004, it had additional changes made beyond what already happened in 1997, and for the most part the additional changes weren't advertised in any way.

The only way I really heard about them (prior to seeing them for myself) was from reviews of the DVDs from people who got early copies to screen for reviewing purposes.

The new changes were pretty "silent" as I recall.

Unlike the 1997 theatrical "Special Edition" release (and the subsquent VHS release a few months later), the DVDs were in no way advertised as having any new additions/changes to them, and in fact, the ads referred to the DVD release as containing "all 3 classic movies". If anything, they really tried to side-step the issue of the changes more than anything, and purely from the advertising alone, it was really hard to know for sure if it was the original versions, the special editions, or (what we ultimately got) even newer versions. If it wasn't for how well known it was that Lucas didn't want to reissue the original versions again, it wouldn't have been much of a stretch to assume, based purely on the advertising, that what was going to be on the DVD set would be the original versions, since they were really pumping up the whole "all 3 classic films" angle. One could reasonably argue that the ads were almost misleading.

They didn't even update the ending credits for the DVDs to reflect the additional changes made in 2004. The movies still had copyright dates reflecting their respective years of original release and also 1997, and the SE portion of the credits reflected the 1997 changes. Nothing in the credits, as far as I recall, aknowledged the additional changes made.

I don't see any reason to believe that they would advertise any changes for the Blu-Ray release when they didn't for the DVD release.

Besides I think that short of them (hopefully) correcting the color and sound mistakes made in 'remastering' the 2004 release, there really aren't any major, sweeping changes that "need" to be made. As I said before, I would hope that they would completely redo the light saber effects in the OT since they do stand out like a sore thumb, and that would be a relatively simple thing for them to do. I doubt we are going to see any kind of really noticable changes like when they added Hayden at the end of ROTJ or the change in the Emperor in ESB to make him consistent with his appearance in the PT and ROTJ. It will likely just be more tweeking some easy/minor effects more than anything.

Has there ever been a big release that didn't offer some changes? It'll probably only stop when Lucas gets too old to feed his impulses.

Only a short matter of time before the PT falls victim to this.

I watched ESB last night and this film is going to be awesome on BD. The audio is SUPERB. It uses the 5.1 brilliantly. The PQ is awesome as well.

I'd imagine all the new changes will be as well. Otherwise it's like they're admitting they made mistakes. "What do you mean good job on the new DVD Jabba? He's exactly the same as he was for the SE!" "Everythings suppossed to be purple.... all Corellians have magical neck bones which enables them to dodge bullets from two feet away...."

I must ask what was it like seeing that abomination on the big-screen? I can't remember why I didn't go and see them but I'd imagine my jaw would have it the floor....

lmao

They can also float. This can be seen when Han hovers over Jabba's tail in the new scene.

I wonder how many people bought the SE's in '04 thinking it was the original trilogy? I know I was surprised but I didn't do any research or anything about the release, just bought it in the store. I knew he changed SW but I didn't know it went as far as it did (before the DVD's the only copies I saw were cassettes probably from the 80's) and there was no reason for me to assume these were those changed versions. I was very disappointed and wanted to return them but found out the other ones weren't available. I couldn't believe it.

Agreed, and I hope the last touch ups you mention are corrected as well. We've already had confirmation from someone working on the BR's that the sound mix is being tweaked. I think it's a given that the same goes for the video.

While no one knows with absolute certainty (at least no one who's talking), I don't think any of the deleted scenes are being integrated into the films. AFAIK, all deleted scenes are "extras".

I thought Han stepped on Jabba's tail and walked over it. But that's probably evidence that the effect itself isn't done well.

Yeah, I know, I was just joking around.

The sound really should be awesome. I can't wait.

I love the rainy scene on Dagobah. It's one of my favorites. The surround sound is great in that one too.

Blu-Ray.com stated that Fox Senior Vice President Vincent Marcais made the following statements when asked about the versions put on blu-ray:

The remastering of the movies has been performed by Lucasfilm and will offer "the most recently updated versions of the movies," with "even more enhancements to the picture quality." ... "The versions that are being released are closest to George Lucas' vision. Other than that, no comment."

I donīt know but I still like to read those lines as a kind of confirmation that further enhancements will be made... I really really hope so! Wouldnīt it be a kind of a downer to see "A New Hope" released on BD and theatrically in the state it was in 2004? I really canīt imagine Lucas lets us down! He never has.
