In regards to what specifically? In my last reply to you I said that I agreed with you that the lightsaber conversation was ridiculous. I'm not supporting the more absurd arguments, just the bigger, sweeping issues with the PT.

![]() I still think it's weird for people to obsess about things they hate. Phantom Menace came out over ten years ago and Revenge of the Sith close to six. Why spend hours creating or watching a documentary about movies that came out years ago that you already hate, and merely reinforces the opinions you've had all along? It's certainly anyone's right to do so and if it causes you enjoyment, power to you. I just personally do not understand it. Like I said previously, I can understand obsessing and devoting hours to something you love... but something you hate? With that said, debates can be fun. I have had plenty of fun, RESPECTFUL debates with people about Star Wars whose opinions are the polar opposites of my own. But some of the people at this forum are some of the meanest, rudest, and most condescending pricks that truly are like a Simpsons' comic book nerd stereotype come to life. Aren't watching movies and discussing them supposed to be... well, fun? |

Maybe he was senile or something, but there's really no excuse for that behavior. Yes, I realize he's now deceased. But while I respect him as an actor and for his body of work. There's aboslutely no excuse for behaving like that. Last edited by Beast; 03-22-2011 at 04:09 PM. |

I kind of understand it. I don't hate the PT at all, but they're not my favourite films. We've all been pulled in by hype at one point or another only to find ourselves utterly mystified as to how the end product didn't in any way, shape or form, match that hype. The disappointment replaces the excitement and every now and again you find yourself returning to it just to confirm that it was as bad as you thought it was! An example of another "kick to the groin" feeling is when you realise that the people involved in making the film you love more than life itself don't see it the same way you do. To them it's just a job, just a film they were involved in. To you, it's your life! When you see examples of inconsistency that you would never have allowed to happen if you were in charge, it's a painful reality check that the creative people making it aren't actually as obesessive as you are. The bottom line is that he is a well repected figure in film criticism, and many other critics have had negative reviews of the PT, and the academy and much of the larger film community in general do not view the PT as being equal to the OT (or the SE-OT being superior to the UOT for that matter, since they wouldn't allow Lucas to submit it in place of the original version for film preservation). Now comes the part where you dismiss all of this and say that "you don't care" what all of these people think. Fine, you don't have to care. I don't always agree with these people, myself. But on some level or another, in the grand scheme of things in the film business, is does matter, and it's just another piece of the overall puzzle that the PT is simply not regarded in general as being equal to or better than the OT. And there are issues with it. The RLM reviews go deep into that. These things will always be subjective to some degree. But, when something gets a generally favorable response or a generally negative response, that ultimately says something about the work in the grand scheme of things, regardless of there being those who disagree with that general response (i.e. you). You can sit here and only care about your own opinion and that of Lucas all you want and ignore the others, but the negative views that many have towards the PT aren't going anywhere, and despite your constant overly-simplistic assessment of the matter, it is not all a bunch of "fanboy whining". Either that, or if it is whining, then your constant retorts to the matter are just a bunch of whining as well. And let's face it, at the end of the day, while you are entitled to your opinions, (and even though I somewhat agree with you on the Godfather issue), based on your posts around here, your overall taste in movies is at least somewhat questionable and goes against the majority most of the time. There's technically nothing wrong with that, but it's just funny how you hold your opinion in such high regard while dismissing those who have managed to actually make a considerably substatial living and career around theirs. If you expect your opinions to be regarded in a civil manner, going around dismissing more well-known others like that isn't the way to make that happen. In regards to what I said to Blu-Yoda, I don't mean any disrespect (though I can see how it would be taken that way), but that was an honest observation on many of his posts. Many of them, quite frankly, to me, come across as though they've been written by a child. The issue isn't that he has a pro-PT opinion (you have a pro-PT opinion Beast, and your posts don't come off in the same manner), but a good chunk of the time they come across as imcomplete thoughts (and to make sense out of them, you have to know what the rest of the thought is) of a child followed by a bunch of "LOLs". His post that I just replied to is a perfect example of that. He addresses me and apparently I was somehow supposed to know what he was referring to, even though it really made no sense. ![]() Not all of his posts are like this, but it happens often enough that he's not doing much justice to the pro-PT side of the arguement, with all due respect. Maybe because you stated that the films contained dialogue that in actuallity don't exist? I didn't know what to make of your comment on the apparent "slave microchips". ![]() |

And negative reviews of things, when done right, can just be fun and entertaining. Look at the reviews of Angry Video Game Nerd. Now that's just some hilarious stuff if you grew up with any of the games/systems that he reviews. |

All it takes for you to express your opinion, regardless of how you feel about it, is having a lot to say and the motivation to say it. Period.
I know I've spent way longer than a measly 4 hours in my life talking about why I hated something. Kudos to this reviewer for making a precise and thorough review. There's a lot that needs to be said about Lucas and his movies. Last edited by JamesKurtovich; 03-22-2011 at 04:28 PM. |

We better hope that he never needs to have any other bones or body parts removed... because that's when he'll REALLY get out of control! Last edited by Dynamo of Eternia; 03-22-2011 at 04:33 PM. |

Yes, those lines were spoke in TPM. But that was in regards to slaves on Tatooine. I doubt that Palpatine used those in the Empire. There really wasn't much that I noticed in the OT to indicate this being the issue. |

I like to startle people, make them think for themselves, much like what Lucas attempted to do with his PT. ![]() You see, I am really busy, so I just write as little as possible, and assume that folks like yourself are able to put 1+1 together. Hm, apparently some can't. No offense though. ![]() I see you have a lot of spare time, or not much to do at work, as your posts are very long. Not everyone can devote this much time to a thread such as this. Btw., in my world, that would be Dagobah, my former post made perfect sense. Also, I think the smileys here are cute, so just don't look if you have a problem with them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
