You can call them meaningless if you wish, you have every rights to do so but it really does not change anything. I do not care if you can prove to me that 5 billion people think that The Godfather is a masterpiece, it still won't be to me. Do you know why that is? Because I could also find 5 billion people who would tell you that Transformers is a masterpiece and give you all the critical analysis you want. At the end of the day it really does not matter. There is no such thing as the greatest movie ever or the worst. One person thrash is another one's gold. What there is however is people who try to feel superior by claiming they like certain movies and dislike others and making fun of others, that is the truth. I enjoy what I enjoy and it's not more complicate then that. I will watch something once and if I did not like it, too bad for me.

Sorry but for me Brando is not a great actor. He was poser and very good at selling himself and make everyone like him. He is just not a actor I ever like nor ever will. I put him in the same category as James Dean, actors who just manage to sell their kool-aid and people bought it. I have nothing against the fact that you think he is wonderful, great for you. He is just not for me and never will and no amount of critics and cinema teachers you could give me with links to their descrition of him will change that. That make me stubborn, you can say that but if you read the thread carefully you will notice I am not the only one

And you dare call yourself a Star Wars fan

I just could not stop watching them. They are 6 movies I just enjoy watching. Sure I can't wait for the Blu-ray but it would have been 3 years without seeing them, I could never have done that at all

Seriously, I am a quality fanatic, and DVD simply doesn't cut it for me.
I am spoiled.
SW deserves better.

Also, patience is a virtue after all, and I am pretty confident the Saga will be monumental on BD!

There are plenty of films I can watch in the meantime, and it's only a few more months, right after I'll have finished my CD.

The ultimate reward, so to speak.

Sorry, but you can't help but see Brando. Same with in Superman.

Because he's basically playing the same role in every movie. Much like Johnny Depp does in almost all his roles.

That isn't helped by the fact he does the same mumbled performance in every film. And never memorizes the script, so you have these long pauses where he's reading off cuecards or ssomething. See Superman, where they even wrote his dialogue on Baby Kal-El's diapers.

Definitely. That's why so many people weren't satisfied with the theatricals on the 2nd disc of the DVDs. I mean, they'll suffice, but SW still deserves better.

Let see! Why I don't like The Godfather?

1. I do not enjoy gangster movies, never did and never will. The only time I will grant a gangster movie a break is if Humphrey Bogart is in it.

2. I really don't like any of the actors in the movie. I know I will be flamed by the cinema expert of The Godfather but I do not consider Pacino or Brando to be gods of acting. I hope you can all sleep tonight knowing this

3. I really do not enjoy the style of directing of Francis Ford Coppola.

Three strikes, your out!!!!!

Now where the difference is, I don't spend all my waking hours on the Internet forums making posts about my dislike of The Godfather unlike others who seem to have a serious fixation on the prequels
Yeah, DeNiro, Pacino, Brando, those actors are hacks.

Sean Connery also plays the same way in every film. Curious what you think of him. And I'm also curious what you think of Brando in Apocalypse Now as that part of the film brings that film alot of its acclaim.

Don't like Apocalypse Now, so I don't have much of an opinion about Brando in that either.

And I wouldn't say that Connery plays the same way in every film. Unless you're just looking at Bond films.

I have tried to watch them, but the minute I put TPM on and see all the terribly distracting EE and noise, and incredible lack of detail, I lose interest.

I think I last watched them sometime last year, or even 2 years ago.
I did watch the PT listening to the commentary tracks however.
Same here... itīs been quite some time since I last leaned back and enjoyed the movies. Since I got Blu-Ray I certainly didnīt. I watched them on my Mac listening to the audio commentaries though. Canīt wait for the Blu-Rays... I think Iīll be watching the saga on a yearly basis once the dust around the BD-release has settled.

On the Godfather debate:
Even though I like the Godfather I can see why one can not like the movie.
I think it is the same with movies as with every other art. Some artistīs expression has a meaning for you, other artistīs doesnīt. There is no democratic vote for good or bad. Art is always good if the artist accomplishes what he was up to. What the audience makes out of it is a whole different thing.

For me itīs the same with James Cameron... his movies are very popular but I canīt stand Aliens for example.

Shelldweller@ Yep. I hope I will find lots of time to enjoy them over and over again. When they arrive this September I'll organize several SW marathons with my friends!

I couldn't care less about the UOT.

I was speaking of the LATEST versions.

Where in my post did I say they are hacks??? I said I do not like them, is that allowed or do I have to like them because everyone else does? If tomorrow everyone is telling you the new hot thing to do is jump of the tallest building in your city, will you do it because everyone else does it? I do not like Pacino, Brando....I give a pass to De Niro I do find him a good actor even if I still would not call him a real favorite of mine. I said that Brando was able to sell his kool-aid and people bought it, good for them. Me I just don't buy it, it's nothing good or bad. You like Brando, you think he is a good actor...great for you too bad for me.

I don't quite see why people have such a hard time with that?

Can we move past the Godfather please? I am a HUGE fan of those films and its taking a hell of a lot of restraint from yours truly to not get defensive about some of the things I am reading. This is a Star Wars forum, some of you need to go back to weighing your 'lightsabers' instead of talking about actors like Brando and Pacino (whom, imo, are better than any of the actors in the Star Wars films).

Itīs very hard being a fan of Star Wars these days when everything people talk about is how much they hate the movies I love.

Man,

This thread is tough - I love SW - my favorite series (and LOTR) and I love BOTH Trilogies. I guess this is just the way it is - with the back and forth.

I think there should be a SW argument thread - and all this stuff goes there. But then this thread would only have 200-300 posts?

I am glad to see the "pro" PT posts - as I love those movies and hate when they get bashed by SW fans. All the movies make one awesome story with cool stuff like Lightsabers, jedi vs sith, DV, etc, etc. GL did an amazing thing with these movies and I can't wait to see them ALL in HD!

Would not last, within the first 10 posts someone would come along and say

"Lucas sucks and the prequels sucks"

So we might as well just keep this one going

Or how about every time you post something and, someone comes on and calls you a liar and, says that you make up ridiculously random posts. you know those kind of people that are on your friend list.
