Its the central planet in the Republic and would be more tightly guarded than any. It only makes sense that a citizen on Coresuent would be unaffected

My opinion of Plinkett is his reviews are very funny and point out many genuine story problems. However other times he is overly nitpicky. I really don't understand why he sees JJ Abrams Star Trek as good while thinking everything in the Star Wars prequels is bad cause they share many of the same problems. Weak forced romance, overrelance on effects spectical, villians with convoluted motives, some ridiclous plot cowinsidences. Personally I enjoyed both despite the flaws but I don't understand why people who hate the Star Wars prequels can like JJ Abrams Star Trek.
If there was a battle raging above the United States and Barack Obama was kidnapped, I don't think life in America would be unchanged. I think a lot of people would be at home or in a shelter somewhere.

This is one of the reasons why the SW Universe in the prequels lacks humanity, imo. The point of the floating cars is simple: to portray the business of Coruscant. It does that effectively but it doesn't do anything else. They're just... there. Same cars, over and over. Might as well be a screensaver because it's just a background. Average Joe doesn't care because he doesn't exist.

Yeah, it's nitpicking, but I think they could have used this to help the SW Universe seem like a real place. The Empire's rise should have a negative impact on everything, not just the main characters. Why should I care if Joe Coruscant doesn't?

Yeah. He managed to somehow sneak in and abduct the guy who's responsible for planning all this.

The same guy who's the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, who has access to all the intel needed to pull it of.

Palpatine was very clever at what he has done to not only the republic but also to the jedi. He has manipulated everyone even Anakin by lying and, telling him that he has the power to save the ones he loved which he did not.

To be honest, the color scheme of rank is a good idea and should have stayed with just the Droid army. The lack of color, black/white, are absolutes and only the Sith think that way. Would have been more realistic to just start off with plain black and white uniforms so I wouldnt have to ask: Why didn't the Scout Troops in Jedi not have Camo?
That will always be something which won't sit well with the OT, but you kinda resolved the continuity problem yourself: it's the Sith way of thinking. Lucas was very deliberate in gradually changing the colour of Palpatine's office/quarters from red to grey over the course of the prequels (confirmed by Jon Knoll in his excellent Star Wars 365 book). The Republic allowed the Clone troops to have this freedom of expression, while the Empire clamped down hard on any individuality. See also the fancy looking Republic Battle Cruisers turned into cold white Star Destroyers by the end of Sith.

You're absolutely right about the conspicuous troops in Jedi though, and I thought about that same problem when watching Sith the other day. Troopers also have lots of different camo gear in the Clone Wars series, like some very natty rust-red armour when they go back to Geonosis in season 2. I guess it just didn't cross their minds when making Jedi, although the Snow Troopers in Empire demonstrate that someone was actually awake when they were designing that show.

You're missing a fundamental point (with which Beast has beaten me to the punch): nothing like that would happen without Palpatine pulling the strings. That begs the question as to why he would do such a thing. First of all it allows him to scare the shit out of the Senate, so they'd be willing to grant him more emergency powers etc, and second of all he knows that Anakin - with Obi-Wan in tow - will try to rescue the "captive" Chancellor.

Palps can then kill several birds with one stone: Anakin removes the existing apprentice (Dooku) and takes another step down the dark path, and with any luck Obi-Wan will be taken out as well ("Leave him, or we'll never make it!"). On the other hand, if Dooku kills Anakin then that's an obvious sign that he wasn't as powerful as first thought, so it's a win-win for Palpatine.

As for Coruscant going about its business while death and destruction occurs all around, well, shit happens. Short of dropping a nuke on any major metropolis, there will always be people determined to carry on doing what they're doing. London's bus network kept on going throughout the Blitz, for example (only to be brought to its knees 70 years later by some frickin' snow, but that's another story ).

Okay, I'll bite one more time. You keep focussing on this Chosen One aspect, but Qui-Gon aside the Jedi are VERY skeptical of the prophecy. Mace Windu - who seems to be the head honcho on the Jedi Council - turned down Qui-Gon's initial request to train Anakin. He seemed to resent Anakin's presence from then onwards, culminating in his bitter aside of "I don't trust him" in Sith.

Yoda also made perfectly clear his objections to Anakin being trained at the end of Phantom Menace. If Qui-Gon was still alive he'd probably have gone and gotten Shmi himself, but these guys CLEARLY aren't happy about Anakin joining the Order so why would they go out of their way to provide him with another distraction?

The great PT answer, Palpatine made them do it or it was foreseen by him. That always fills the gaps. It surely didn't look like it during the Clone Wars cartoons. I didn't spot any sly winks to eachother when he whisked him away. There wasn't any plan as I recall. Just plotholes filled in later.

perfect example as to why "own" shouldn't be an option in collections for blus until a week or so before release day.

Not sure but has anyone notice the Original Trilogy has been taking a pasting with the reviews compared to the Prequels? I love it when people review things not yet released.

I don't think Grevious knew that Palpatine was Sidious i think only Dooku and,his advisers knew who he truly was.

oh i agree completely. it will easily be the #1 blu in most collections on this site by the end of the year (especially if you look at the numbers of all the sets combined, not just individually) (and just think of how many people will wait for a BF sale or a christmas gift) but it bugs me when i look at someone's collection and see stuff that either is months away or doesn't even have a release date yet.

Grevious didn't know that Palpatine was Sidious for one. Outside of his Apprentices, nobody knew.

So General Grievous (you made a RLM joke by calling him Grevious, we've discovered your secret identity!) was given the information on how to breach security by Dooku, which he didn't question. Those apprentices are a trusting lot.

It wasn't a great plan either, first thing I would do is shoot Palpatine in the face and go home....

James, I have always wondered, why didn't Obi-Wan and Anakin use the Force to attack each other with lava on Mustafar?

I had a talk with him last night, I asked him the exact same question, do you know what Lucas told me? When people stop asking for them every 5 seconds on the Internet
