They are available 4x3 Television nonanamorphic DVD format. If you try to blow that up on your current TV you will get resolution on par with sub VHS quality. If you fail to see that point, then you really shouldn't be buying Blu Rays, let alone DVDs....LOL

The versions on DVD as sub-par even for DVD standards. They are just laserdisc masters 'dumped' onto DVD discs. They are not cleaned up the way most movies (especially major blockbuster movies) are for DVD or Blu-Ray, and they are not anamorphic. The existing DVD versions were a slap in the face to begin with.

Sorry dude, you may not like hearing about it and you may not care, but suppression of classic movies is not something that many people will ever take lightly or just sit back and accept. And as James pointed out, it's our right to criticize Lucas's bad decision making regardless of whether there's anything we can do about it or how long the debate has been going on. It'll go on as long as Lucas continues in his stubborn ways, and if you don't like hearing about it, then tough. Funny photo of Picard though.

I don't, I'm getting the 9-Disk Collector's edition.
I love the Prequels, i like the majority of the changes (Luke screaming in Empire I can do with out.) to the Originals. I hope the films (All 6) have more scenes inserted into them, and more updated effects. Even if they don't i only want one thing to be fixed and thats the White / Green LightSaber Blade in A New Hope to be fixed back to Blue.

I have the DVD's with the UOT, I don't need another of them.

Why - don't - you - people - get - it - already!? We are not talking about different cuts of a movie (like with "Donnie Darko" or "the Exorcist" Director's Cuts). The Sequel-Trilogy are with each release the most recently updated Editions of THE SAME CUT! The Sequel Movies ARE to a degree of 99,5 % the same movies you saw in cinemas or on VHS in your childhoods - with just some minor Updates. You already got those movies you want and you will get them again on Blu-Ray - just not with muted colors, scratches and aged effects but an updated version of the movies. You should be grateful and not hateful for that!

The Saga should not just be a nod to a particular childhood memory of one generation - but rather a timeless experience that trancends generations!

Going by their appearance and how freely they swing at the side of Jedi, Sith and androids, I'm going to go with somewhere between 1-4 pounds.

Yes, not that heavy at all.
Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Tyrannus, Palpatine, Maul, Windu, Han all use one hand to hold it.
Luke being the total wimp he is, needs 2 hands at all times....

Anakin even once swung his and Obi-Wan's around at extremely high speeds in an assault on Tyranus. I would imagine if sabers had once been heavy they are now light, one would want to be able to attack and defend with them easily, not to mention do what Luke did on Hoth if necessary and use the Force to retrieve one.

We literally have hundreds of pages in this thread arguing back and forth over this, where have you been? If you want to get really technical it's OFF TOPIC.

at roughly 1:06. Notice how (for no apparent reason) there's a cut and the scene's composition is tightened up quite a bit?

3PO's metal hand wasn't in place, and you could see his human hand during the lightsaber scene as filmed. (If you have a copy of the original Star Wars Storybook, you can see it.) They solved it by zooming in, which would have exaggerated any grain in that scene.

(In short, that shot isn't the best way to judge the quality of the film... because of production issues, they had to mess with it.)
But the lightsaber effect itself is an optical, no? And that's not a zoom of the previous shot, but a completely different angle (look at the window behind Obi-Wan). That's not to say that the shot wasn't itself zoomed in to cover a goof, but it's definitely not the same angle as the one prior to the cut.

There was a cut "for no apparent reason" to allow a full-bladed lightsaber prop to be put into Mark Hamill's hand. That's 'cause they were still trying the practical saber effect at that point to make it 'light up' (the light shone on the reflective blade makes Hamill's eyes look very strange in that scene, kinda like Blade Runner's replicants).

How is that the point you were trying to make? If the special editions had been released in 1977 initially, then that would have been the original version and nobody would have ever seen any other version else, so of course they never would have complained. But they weren't the original versions released. It's just hard to understand what point it is you're trying to make here?

So, we need something to talk about other than tech aspects of how they should look or even how it is or isnt fair for the "versions" of the movies to be or not be released on a different medium...

I'd rather talk about the plot and timeline and other stuff rather than the format its going to be on or the way it sounds...
