Default The God Awful Holiday Special Edition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: One of the most requested Lucasfilm releases ever: Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM arrives on Blu-ray. Fans worldwide will be able to pre-order in late September for $29.99 US $34.99 Canadian. Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM will also be available as a digital download.

An exclusive autographed edition limited to 1,978 units will be available through http://shop.starwars.com/. Signatories include: Ben Burtt, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Carrie Fisher.

The first 100 orders placed will also receive a double sided collectors postcard set featuring concept art by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston.

Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM features the highest possible picture and audio transfers. This release has been substantially re-edited and remastered by Lucasfilm legend Ben Burtt. Star Wars fans will be excited to learn that several minutes of all new digital visual effects have been created for this version: including the replacement of previous visual effects shots originally lifted from Episode IV: A New Hope. Exterior shots on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk have been upgraded to reflect its appearance in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The variety segments have also been updated to enhance their appeal to a contemporary audience.

Included with Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM is a bonus disc containing more than three hours of special features. Including; deleted scenes and alternate takes, 'Fallen Empire' a 50 minute long documentary containing rare footage, plus cast and crew interviews, many of whom speak candidly about their thoughts on the original special.

Three 8 minute production featurettes have been produced especially for this release:

- 'Inside Nelvana' A visit to the Canadian animation studio during the production of 'The Faithful Wookiee' animated segment

- 'A long time ago' A retrospective on the TV variety shows of the 1970's.

- 'Fabricating fuzzballs' On the challenge of designing and building Chewbacca's family.

Anybody ever read The Crystal Star? That was by far the absolute worst Star Wars book ever. EVER.
Thats the biggest flaw with most EU content, not just SW EU. Not only can any hack come up with a "Super Death Star Times a Hundred" without one shred of talent or writing ability, doing so insults the scope of the source material.

This is a non-issue to the vast majority of audience because most people are unaware I EU stuff or don't bother with it but you have to wonder about the people who accept and embrace that kind of hackery.

I think that's one of the things "Clone Wars" gets right. The animation suits the lower budget extremely well so visually it does a very good job of approximating the movies but even with it's multi-episode arc the stories still come across as smaller in scope, the villains less threatening etc. than what you see in the movies an that's the way it should be.

If one were to watch AotC, then every episode of the tv series then RotS they would find the series appropriately-bookended by events of greater consequence that play out on a larger scale. There are EU novels on the other hand that would almost make the destruction of a Death Star seem like child's play.

Ultimately by constantly trying to raise the stakes and outdo previous books or films these sci-fi/fantasy novelists (who a arent exactly the cream of the literary crop, by the way) are basically forcing themselves to insult and degrade the stories that the readers obviously enjoy in the first place.

I'd buy that for a dollar! Some times too much spare time does lead to worthwhile endeavours!

Lol when you go to the Star Wars shop there's a Darth Vader toaster (what was first the Cylon toaster or this?), Death Star cookie jar and a replica of the turd Jar-Jar stepped in....

Yep, and I agree 110%. The Crystal Star was the book that stopped me from running out and buying SW books at full price on release day. Terrible.

A few other stinkers eventually lead to me skipping out on most EU stuff completely after a while. But through the 90s, I read pretty much everything.

The complete expended Universe has nothing to do with the movies in my opinion. Could we come back to the subject?
