Will the extras on the original trilogy be the same on the complete collection? Just for the the original three, I don't care about the prequels so I don't care about the extras for them

I feel the same way. That's why I will never agree with those who say that in a few years movies will only be available through digital downloading.

The pillar-boxing just doesn't bother me, even with 1.33 stuff. Yes, it's severe but I'm looking at the picture, not the borders (although given that viewpoint you could legitimately wonder why I've bought a 21:9 set in the first place ).

After a few minutes I'm concentrating on the film. Watched Stalag 17 not too long ago, and instead of the pillar-boxing I kept on wondering if matey meant to get that book so close to William Holden's head when he throws it at him.

I hope the release date really is the 16th. Friday releases are the best. I hope they become the norm.

Nope. You'll have to buy the 9 disc set to get all the extras.

I'm hoping there's some really juicy extras on that 9th disc to annoy the Prequel Bashers.

If I recall correctly (and someone can correct me if I am wrong), the two separate trilogies will each come with one bonus material disc (likely specific to each trilogy, though that's a guess as this point).

The complete saga comes with 3 discs of bonus material.... presumably the two discs that come with the separate trilogies, and one additional disc of material exclusive to the set.

We'll have to wait for final confirmation on all of this once a more specific announcement on what all of the bonus material is gets made at some point.

I think that's about right. That final disc better be amazing! I wonder if all the extras will be new? As Lucasfilm don't often repeat themselves extraswise, those documentaries are too good to relegate to DVD though and Empire of Dreams was pretty good. I'm hoping we'll have a facttrack like the Building Empire or Star Wars Begins docs on YouTube. We might even have some fanfilms thrown in for good measure. There's endless possibilities I'm sure we'll be thrilled and disappointed at the same time when the bonus features are announced.

Thrilled and disappointed basically sums up the Star Wars experience for a lot of people...

I can't find the exact quote but Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm's PR dude, told a reporter that the complete saga box set would not feature any of the extras that showed up on the DVDs.

Now, that quote was about 2 or 3 years ago so things may have changed. But, I remember reading it over at theforce.net.

It had to do with Lucasfilm's future plans about the Saga on home video and how they were waiting to see who wins the format war...

I hope that the 2 bonus discs also included on the individual sets are full of NEW bonus content, whereas the 3rd disc has the old extras in HD.
I would be VERY happy if that were indeed the case.

I hope that's untrue, or no longer the case. I never bought the OT on DVD, because I was going to wait for them to be released on BD.

Bluyoda,

Not sure about again, it was a while ago. I had heard independently from another source who knee deep in Prequel spoilers that that was the initial idea of the box set; i.e. no previous content would be ported over. It would all be new content.

This is the reason why I haven't sold my Star Wars DVDs yet. I just got this feeling that Lucas won't port over the supplements, so in a sense, you won't be able to sell your DVDs if you're a completest of all things Star Wars on disc format....

I'm not all that concerned about the existing DVD extras apart from 'The Beginning' on Phantom Menace, which is as candid a 'making of' documentary as will ever come out of the Lucasfilm PR bullshit machine.

The Beginning is a pretty good documentary, it has some awkward moments. I still love Sir Steven breaking the droid. It's almost a warts and all look at the making of the most anticipated film in history. If it was filmed in SD I don't mind it been left out as I have the DVD, if it's in HD it should be on the discs and should be a belter. AotC had a decent one but Within in a Minute wasn't as interesting to me but I can see why they went for that minute....

+1 for all new extras.

As much as I love the Empire of Dreams/The Beginning/From Puppets to Pixels/Within A Minute documentaries, I would prefer to have all new content. I hate repeating features on multiple releases.

I'd like the older features to be included. They're already done and won't stand in the way of newly-produced material. Of course, during the prequels many, many hours of behind the scenes footage was shot, so there's the possibility of getting longer, more extensive documentaries for all three movies.

Yeah, same here. I'd love this set to be a complete archive of bonus materials both new and old.

It would be neat but they rarely port over extras from older versions. I think all the bonus features will be fresh but it would be a shame not to have some of the archive stuff. Maybe they could put it on the Star Wars website?

I just want the deleted or extended scenes to be in HD to see what we've been missing. I'm not sure what quality the Luke, Biggs and Camie scenes on Tatooine is I've only seen rough B&W so it would be great to have these in HD.

Yes, and in HD, no less!

Gosh, I am so eager to watch SW again!!!!

These are the films I will revisit the most!

I will NOT watch them on DVD ever again!

Star Wars has to be seen in 1080p with glorious lossless audio!

Can you imagine what it will be like!?!?!?!?!?

The only thing I am kind of sad about, despite that I don't care what other people think, is that the PT will probably get very low scores for the movies, which is just unfair, because they are so much better than pretty much any other blockbuster coming out of Hollywood.
But few people can stay objective when it comes to SW.

I, for one, am getting the set DAY ONE, and for the first time ever, I am choosing Priority International Courier, as I live in Europe, and it normally takes from 1 week to month for BDs to arrive from Amazon.com using the Standard Shipping Method. An amount of time I am not willing to wait for SW!

I have once again watched the ILM doc. "ILM-Creating the Impossible" for the 3rd time already.
The Prequels really pushed VFX movies to a WHOLE new level!
