I love Harrison Ford but given his complete and utter lack of effort in Jedi I seriously doubt they could have made that work well even if every piece were solidly in place.

Also, I don't think they really made a bad call going the happy ending 'everybody rides off in the sunset' western route as opposed to the more unsettled, glass-is-half-empty sort of ending (think The Searchers or Unforgiven).

Jedi is neck-and-neck with TPM as my most despised SW film but the happily ever after resolution isn't one of the reasons.

He does seem a bit careless in Jedi... like he's just wanting to get it over with.

You prefer Attack of the Clones?

Anyone seen any specs for this set yet, or is it Still way too early? I'm mainly wondering about the Audio side of the house (Hoping for 7.1 DTS-HD MA, though that may be wishful thinking)

This set is going to be presented in its original DTS-HD MA MONO, with secondary Dolby Digital 5.1 (lossy).

Gotcha!

Heh, I do.

With the exception of the Luke/Vader/Palpatine showdown Jedi was just painful.

Clones wasn't on a Star Wars/Empire level but it wasn't bad either. Many of the good parts (seismic charge chase, Jango/Obi-wan brawl, arena free-for-all) were quite good and even the bad parts weren't really bad so much as they just dragged.

Apparently Harrison Ford wanted Han to perish at some point in the OT. What do you guys think about this? It kind of made no sense how no major characters were lost aside from Ben in the original film (unless you count Yoda, but he left on his own terms). Han sacrificing himself in Jedi would have been pretty awesome given his character development.
Yeah he basically did not want to return for Jedi and he wanted the end of the character to be Han Frozen in Carbonite

Han Solo is Ford least favorite role, funny when you consider it's the role that made him what he is. By 1979, he was getting new roles, better offer and he wanted out of Star Wars. I think Lucas and the others must have made a pretty sweet deal to have him come back for Return Of The Jedi.

I agree 100%. Quite frankly I loved the ending of Return of the Jedi. I thought it was a perfect way to end the series. Kinda funny though, but the endings of both Jedi and TPM are very similar. Each has three seperate battles going on and all end rather similar. (Qui Gon has a funeral, so does Vader, Maul/Palpatine both plummet to the deaths, The Gungans/Ewoks fight the more technologically advanced enemy, and there are two battles in space that result in a big 'splosion). Hell, they could be the same movie...lol

Anyway, I agree, the ending of Jedi is not what people disliked. Its the fn Ewoks and Shoddy acting...which...um.. is sorta like the Phantom Menace (Gungans and horrible child acting).

I know this question may have been asked already, but I didn't have the time to read all 600 pages of posts.

I heard a rumor that this set is going to be in 1.33.1 (Full Screen) and the audio is going to be DTS-HDMA Mono?

If that's the case, no sale for me. I mean, no lossless surround sound?

Please tell me these rumors are BS......

Not rumors, just jokes at the expensive of those whom do not have time to weed through the endless PT/OT debates and so and so forth. These won't be full screen (even though Amazon at one point had them) and certainly won't be mono (afterall, this is GEORGE 'Fn Lucas and the man loves him some big "kabooms!"). Pre-order away!

All I have to say is that you're in the minority here. Revenge of the Sith was the best of prequel trilogy IMHO and The Empire Strikes Back was the best in the original trilogy. I am also willing to bet that many here will agree with my statement.

Story (and acting) aside, my main problem with the prequels was that Lucas went overboard with SFX. Everything was shiny and sparkling and new, whereas a better director would've used CGI to make the universe seem more compatible with the original trilogy. That would've been a better use of CGI, but what he gave us is two universes that don't even seem semi-related.

You do realize there is an intent why the universe is portrayed like that, right?

It's to show the difference in the universe pre and post Galactic Empire's rise to power.

That there was some pride and artistry in things were made during the Prequel Era. And then after the rise of the Empire, everything was cold and mass produced. Much the same happened in the real world after the world wars, where more and more the artistry was abandoned for the ease of mass production. Just look at things such as classic cars and art deco coffee pots compared to what you can get today.

I think it was more likely the case Lucas just didn't have CGI to use on the originals. We know he absolutely adores it...and attempted to go "all out" with the prequels. I'm sure the original movies would have looked the same if he had those CGI abilities at the time (which I am quite thankful he didn't!).

No. Read some of the interviews and watch some of the extras.

There was clear intent to show the difference between the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire.

That's how I see it, too. Post-hoc interviews done by Lucas and his cronies won't change my opinion.

If someone points me to a 1977 article then I'll happily eat my words.
