Why the heck would you want the Fullscreen versions of the film?
Just for the sake of having everything released?

Pretty much just to have as a collection. Like I said - Nerdfest.

And, I still have an older 37" CRT in the basement I sometimes watch just DVD's or old VHS on, I may sometimes be so inclined to just pop-in the FS version of ROTS or ESB. But if I'm on my Sony HD upstairs, it's OAR only.

I like to have options.

OK, let's clear this up right now...

For the record, Lucas made it clear many times, that he did not want to include the original releases on DVD. He didn't believe they were up to his standard, so he essentially ignored them. In terms of his viewpoint regarding the saga, the 2004 DVDs are the "official" existence of the first trilogy. Eventually, Lucas relented, just to get the purists and diehards to shut up...but then they started whining about nothing being different!

I think it was Rick McCallum who once said, "They wanted them unaltered, and that's what they got." In truth, the chances of the original prints having survived are rare; we saw on the 1997 documentary how poor the condition of them was before the SEs were done, and that was 14 years ago. Lucas did what he could, by including the laserdisc transfers as bonus material for the LEs. Beyond that, I'd say the "original" films will probably remain as pieces of history. If undamaged prints do exist (highly unlikely), then I'm sure Lucas has his reasons for not updating them. If you don't like his choices, fine; don't buy anything else of his. But whining and protesting on a message board isn't going to change anything. If you're really that nuts about it, write Lucasfilm a letter; at least that would be more productive than ranting about it here.

He wasn't really whining at all IMO. I think he took it quite well.

I wasn't just addressing him in particular; I merely used his comments to reference all the "purists" who have been relentlessly complaining about such issues. Frankly, I've become sick of it. If folks really want to get their message across to Lucas, they'll either contact his company, or better yet, speak with their wallet. Anything else won't make much of a difference in the long run.

Letterbox Laser Disc ports isn't quite what we had in mind though, is it Rick? Lucas did what he could? Credit where credits due, in that aspect he did bugger all. Those bonus theatrical editions felt more like an insult than a delicious treat (which is what they should have been).

Moviefan2k4, we will let our wallets do the talking, hopefully Mr. Lucas will put some of the proceeds into the 'Save the Original Theatrical Editions' fund he has in a jar on his mantlepiece (we all know it's there).

Agree 100% percent. Complaining about the issues won't do much good.

Sarcasm aside, I was simply pointing out that if anyone really wants to drive their point home, they'll switch tactics, and contact Lucasfilm directly. That alone would be more reliable than complaining here, and hoping someone in a position to "fix" things will stop by. After all, how likely do you think it is that Lucas or his employees spend hours on this website?

Waste of time, I have mention this countless time in this thread and others, they just want to complaint and b!tch. I doubt any of them would even try to contact Lucasfilm with letters, plus all of them will be first in line to purchase the release on Blu-ray in September even if they hate the Special Edition so much it make's them forget their wonderful childhood.

They just want to complaint and that is all, it's a hobby on the Internet.

unaltered or the 97 SE Lucus knows fans will buy the box set's becouse they will be in full HD 1080p for the first time . whats even better is that he has given fans a choice PT, OT and the whole saga.

The studio will release the saga in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan.

For sake of the tragedy of video history.

(I too have those in 4:3 as video history examples (plus having the widescreen letterboxed OOT on the second disc), makes for additional extras/supplement for the upcoming BD sets )

And not in my collection, but a friend of mine had this in the 70's and we projected it then onto my 50" 4:3 screen while thinking of when we saw it in 70mm on a D-150 screen (which might give you an idea of why watching 2.4 wide Blu-rays letterboxed on 40" 16:9 HDTVs is kind of underwhelming for the deci :>)

I guess you never saw the petition then, did you? As someone who would love to have the unaltered films in HD for my collection I find it insulting that you would presume to tell me how i feel. Not all of us do it to complain and *****. Some of us simply appreciate what they did for cinema. I watch the SE, but as a film fan the originals deserve a spot in my collection. I cant imagine why anyone wouldnt want them in HD. Whether you worship the SE or simply prefer them is the notion of having the unaltered films in HD such a bad one? I just don't understand the anamosity.

From what I've heard, online petitions rarely work for anything, because many of the studios never see them. Additionally, online fanboys probably account for a minor portion of the target audience, at best. So, the most effective way to get any studio's attention would be to write a note, call, or get a written petition and mail it in.

That's...ridiculous.
Although, in the DVD section, you don't have the 2004 pressings. I don't know how you missed those.

And Yet... I have a version of the trilogy "unaltered" on DVD... courtesy G. Lucas and 20th Century Fox. Splendid! Pretty close to what was asked. And close enough for a DVD release... but now we have Blu.

To answer your rant about my comments, I wasn't COMPLAINING about anything! I was clearly stating that I wish so dearly for the best effort possible on Lucasfilm's part. I know they can do wonderful work, they've been doing it ever since 1975 for crying out loud!

I know that the original negatives don't exist in perfect condition. But, this is 2011 - Lucasfilm has more than enough of a budget... All I HOPE for, is to take the BEST version they can muster up, CLEAN IT as much as possible, and provide it on a BLURAY disc uncompressed.

What's the harm in telling people on this forum that I hope for this? Instead I have to get comments back from troll turds who think they have the answer to everything under the sun.

As an individual who has spent a lot of bones on Lucasfilm merchandise and theater tickets, I believe I have a right to HOPE for certain things on the next release that I'll be spending money on anyway.
