For me I would LOVE to see the OT released on Blu, but I am a Fan of Star Wars, ALL of the movies, I like the Originals, the 97 SE's, and the new 04 SE's, and even if he decides to tweak some more for the upcoming Saga Set, that is fine by me, I have just finished up a long time coming preservation DVD set of the OT & the 97 SE's so I am good to go, bring on the Saga Set with all its extras

To answer your rant about my comments, I wasn't COMPLAINING about anything! I was clearly stating that I wish so dearly for the best effort possible on Lucasfilm's part. I know they can do wonderful work, they've been doing it ever since 1975 for crying out loud!

I know that the original negatives don't exist in perfect condition. But, this is 2011 - Lucasfilm has more than enough of a budget... All I HOPE for, is to take the BEST version they can muster up, CLEAN IT as much as possible, and provide it on a BLURAY disc uncompressed.

What's the harm in telling people on this forum that I hope for this? Instead I have to get comments back from troll turds who think they have the answer to everything under the sun.

As an individual who has spent a lot of bones on Lucasfilm merchandise and theater tickets, I believe I have a right to HOPE for certain things on the next release that I'll be spending money on anyway.
As I've already noted in a previous post, I was not specifically railing against you with my comments. I merely used your post as a springboard to address similar concerns from tons of other people, many of whom are far worse with their views than me. My apologies if I offended you; that was not my aim. I was simply trying to point out the futility of anyone - not just you - repeatedly chanting about wanting the unaltered trilogy on Blu. The fact of the matter is that unless Lucas sees a strong business-related reason for changing his approach, he's likely to keep doing what he wants...and the best way for fans to give him that reason is to either contact his company, or "speak with their wallet" by refusing to buy what he does release.

It's the same bunch of people over and over again.
You can basically count them on one hand.

I haven't chimed in on this issue before, BUT I wouldn't mind having the unaltered on Blu. I know Lucas won't do it, but the film purist/historian in me and the completist thinks it would be a very nice endeavor for him to pursue. I don't want them bad enough or care enough to go sending emails and signing petitions, but I think it would be nice.

Are you reading the same thread I am?

It's the opposite, it's people like you, Beast, and the same small handful posting multiple times on every page saying the exact same thing.

I also would hugely prefer the unaltered trilogy on Blu, if nothing else but because it has a huge role in film history. I've just long since given up in arguing about it, especially in a thread as ridiculous as this one.... where literally pages are dedicated to going on and on about how great a character Jar Jar is, and how the Prequels are the three definitive films of the six.

At this point it borders on parody.

Have you looked at the poll in this very thread? The set with all versions, including the original unaltered, is far in the lead (as opposed to the set with just the newest altered versions) and the option for the unaltered only has more votes than the SE-only set and the prequel only set combined. It's just the vast majority of those people realize the absurdity in trying to argue with people who idolize characters like Jar Jar and carry on about how fantastic the Prequels are.

I like to have options.
Ah, the days of 4x3 VHS tapes. I still remember going to see the Special Edition of Empire in '97, and thinking that George digitally added in IG-88 (who I recognized from Shadows of the Empire on the Nintendo 64). Turns out, he was always there, he was just completely cropped out of the full-frame edition!

Lucas has always used the success of one project to fund another. That's how he built his entire Empire. IMO there's a good chance that the cash generated by the Blu-rays and the 3D release of Phantom Menace could be going into the OT Restoration fund.

I'd love it if Lucas said 'get Phantom Menace 3D to over $100 mil and I'll restore the OT'. And also stipulated that people have to watch the film, not just buy a ticket and walk out. It'd be worth all that pain and suffering, eh prequel haters?

+1

I don't really care for 3D, and it's rare that I go to the theater, because of all the talking, seat kicking, phones lit up like a flashlight while everyone texts, screaming kids, etc. It's just too annoying these days.

I just can't wait to get the Complete Saga on blu-ray, so I can enjoy it in the privacy of my own home.

I'm going because I never got to see Episode I in theaters and I'm too old to have seen the OT in theaters. This is that opportunity for me - and I'm okay with that.

I'll be seeing all 6 of them in 3-D in the theater. It sounds like they're taking time to do the conversion properly. And the images we've seen from it look good so far. It's one a year, and it's been so long since I've seen them in the theater. So I'm excited to do so again.

Ya know... I just had a brain fart so big, it might just be a precious golden nugget of an idea!

I think it would be cool, if Mr. Lucas green-lit a complete remake of the original trilogy. He's tinkered with it so much now, I wonder if it would have just been cheaper to do a total remake of the 3 films. New actors, new audio/video effects, new filmmaking tech.

The actual film could be the same - even use 90% of the same script. Update some dialogue a bit, remove some cheesiness, and actually make it undeniably awesome. By redoing most of the scenes shot-for-shot, it would retain most of the classic-ness.

Of course, we would still have the originals, but it's been 30 YEARS! Hollywood has done remakes and reboots 10 years apart from the original for crying out loud. The originals really aren't going anywhere, they can't get any better really once they've gone blu.

I think it would totally refresh the entire franchise (besides the kiddy Clone Wars series).

Would it be cool? Yes, or No?

(remember, you'll still have the originals and special editions - nobody is getting r4ped)

My gawd.... NO! Remakes and reboots are for films that were originally bad or had low budgets and couldnt be made right. Star Wars is one of a handful of films that you simply cannot remake. No freegin way. Its like Remaking Wizard of Oz, The Godfather, or Lawrence of Arabia, or some other clsssic epic. You just cant do it. Its like beating up Mother Theresa.... you CANT DO IT!!!!

And, even though you'd have the originals, you would have still ruined it for future generations since the only versions they'd likely be exposed to are the new ones which would be hopelessly "Hollywood-ish". There is just NO way this couild ever be acceptable to me. Just the thought of a Star Wars reboot caused a sick feeling in my gut.... no way.... just no way.

They are just fine the way they are. A few effects cleaned up here and there is fine. Lets leave it at that. Noone they could possibly cast right now could ever be Leis, Luke, Solo, etc, etc.

It would be unnecessary. There's no reason to remake any of the films.

And you sound like you've never even really watched the Clone Wars series if you think it's "kiddy".

It's certainly no more "kiddy" than the film franchise that spawned it. They're family movies after all.

Interesting idea, but I always have wondered why Hollywood likes to remake movies that are good to begin with and not the films that are complete trash?

I mean, take Independence Day (ID4) as an example. It is a pretty horrendous movie. But, if it had another run through in the script department it could be an amazingly kick ass movie. Cut a few needless characters. Drop a stereotype or two. Figure out something more plausible than uploading a virus from a Laptop to stop the Aliens (Actually, Georoge Lucas simplified the end of ID4 in TPM. Screw the laptop, just have the ship glide in, fire a missle, blow up the mother ship and drop the shields on the battleships on Earth, problem solved). So much could be done right. That is what I would do in Hollywood, take the missed opportunities/bombs and make them good.

All the Star Wars films have been done right by the guy who created them, so I don't see a remake being a plausible idea. It would be like Geoge Lucas saying: "I f'd up the whole series..so I am starting over..." He doesn't need to do that. But interesting thought regardless.

Don't call the clone wars animated series kiddy ok. Both kids and adults like the series. I like the series and so do a lot of star wars fans both young and old.
