Not initially, based on current reports. Maybe not ever -- but it wouldn't shock me in a year or two.

That seems to be the way it goes: Big release, followed by some easily-ignored repackaging and reissues... followed by another big release, followed by...

The alien movies are coming out individually may/June. I bet star wars too will follow suit. After all, lucas wants to milk it as much as possible

Besides the prequel movies on DVD, have there ever been individual releases??

I think it's rather odd, to just buy 1/6th of a story, or 2/6th for that matter.

I think it'll just be The Complete Saga, the OT, or the PT.

People who only want one or two films are in the absolute minority, and not worth the effort IMO.

Yes, those were the ones that had the UOT as a special feature on the 2nd disc.

wow, that is so comically, profoundly misinformed that you can't be serious. Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 were shot on HDCAM tape

Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true!

I know I said I just want lossless but if you ask what I prefer, give me Dolby TrueHD 7.1 or at least Dolby TrueHD 5.1 EX.

I concur. IF we don't get 7.1 Lossless, EX will suffice. Anything but the generic 5.1 DTS-HD MA or 5.1 Dolby True-HD.

I dream of LPCM but would be glad to see DTS-HDMA 7.1

The number of people who actually have a 7.1 setup is miniscule. And even for people who have it, whether it's needed would depend upon the quality of the remix because the theatrical mixes had mono surround for the OT (even in 70mm - Lucas never went for split surround that was used for Apocalypse Now and other films) and stereo surround EX for the PT. So if all they do is take the original surround mix and send that to the surround sides and then delay it a little and/or throw in a little EQ and send that to the surround back, we'd probably be better off with the original mix.

And all EX does is use some logic to send the mono elements of the surround channels to a hard rear. It was barely perceptible in theatres (I'm an ex recording engineer and purposely saw the PT in a theatre which supported EX and I couldn't tell the difference), which is why theatrical 7.1 doesn't use it - it uses stereo sides and stereo rears.

Not sure I'd agree with "miniscule", but nonetheless, you make some very good & Valid points. I'd rather have the Best 5.1 (DTS-HD MA/Dolby True-HD) Mix they can do (for the first/original 3), & maybe the more Recent ones (Prequels) could have a bit more of an Audio upgrade (seeing as they were made not too long ago).

I'm not sure if I would agree with "miniscule" either. I guess my assessment of who has a 7.1 system is probably somewhat tainted, because of all the time I've spent in these forums, as opposed to what the general public has.

I have a 7.2 system, and honestly, I don't care what kind of setup most people have, I want 7.1! I would also like to have a lossless version of the original audio on the OT though.

HDCAM Tape. Never seen one of those. I think it was a prototype sony camera that Lucas used for ATOC. Anyway, the point is, no one has ever seen a star wars OT movie in true HD/Bluray format....HBO HD was a scam as it's broadcasts over a cable line...the distance takes away from the HD.

B-107: The Life of An HD Tape.

Not bound to the limitations and time-intensive processes associated with traditional film, the all-digital Episode III still has an elaborate production process spanning continents and disciplines.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCAM

By your reasoning, all HD Broadcasts are a scam because they are not from tape - the only difference is the bandwidth allowed by Cable / Satellite / VOD or Disc.

Distance has no relevance to Digital. Compression takes away from the HD. Certainly European broadcasts of the original trilogy looked 'pretty good' - imagine if they had been released on single layer discs. The Blu-rays will look better - but the difference between HD Broadcast and Blu-ray is a lot smaller than DVD and Blu-ray.

Yeah, the infamous "UOT as special features" releases were single releases, and I think that's it. I'm not counting the prequels because they couldn't be released as a trilogy without the third film. I personally doubt the films would be released as single films, because each film is so identified with the other two films in their respective trilogies and, to a lesser extent, the other trilogy. Plus, every film in each trilogy contributes to telling the story of each trilogy. Maybe there are some fans who just want one film and that's fine, but I doubt there are enough fans to justify single releases. If a fan wants one film, they're most likely either gonna want the other two of that particular trilogy or the other five of the whole saga.
