These forums definitely skew perception of what "most people" have.
That's quite true, we had a 'how many people do you know with a Blu-ray player?' thread in the UK section and the answers were from none to a few. I only know a few people with 5.1 sound systems and I know zero with a dedicated home theatre room.

Just under 22 hours to go!! I hope most people will be happy with the announcements.

You know, it's funny that you mention that because it is true. My family is the one of the only families around our area that have a dedicated 7.1 home theater system with a blu-ray player. Most people still have DVDs and tube tvs and they don't give a hoot. Some have LCDs and still have DVDs and I cringe at that thought. They don't know what there missing at all. I think people are still wanting cheaper media. Like DVDs are still cheaper than Blu-rays. Anymore though, u can get a nice Blu-ray for $10-$15, and the DVD is the same price. Anyways, I can't wait for this announcement, this is the last movie series that I need to convert to Blu-ray, and all of the movies series' I have on DVD will be Blu-ray. May the Force be with You all!!!

I still don't think you grasp the difference between original definition, transfer, encoding, storage, and broadcasting...
More importantly, I dont think you understand the difference between analog and digital, which has nullified the "distance" problem a long time ago.

Not to say that the HBO broadcast was the best by any mean, I haven't seen it, but the reasons you invoke are meaningless.

It truly is a great place to relax, thanks for the compliments guys, means a lot! Also, those pics are a bit outdated. Though they are from last year, we have added a few "new" things to the theater. Actually, we will be modifying it ever so slightly in the next couple of weeks. Want to make a it more professional, lol!! Again, thanks for the compliments guys and eventually, we will all be enjoying The Star Wars Saga, in our awesome home theaters, long live Star Wars!!!

I actually do, again I haven't updated the pictures yet of my collection yet, I own both seasons of the Clone Wars and will be getting the 3rd season whenever it comes out on Blu-ray. I love everything that has to do with Star Wars, I like the OT better than the PT, but I'm not a hater. I grew up with the SET and PT, so I'm in the middle of the Star Wars Legacy. I have watched the UOT and I like it, but I'm glad they did correct a few of the mistakes in the SE, like the Vaseline under the landspeeder in A New Hope, lol!! I have no hate for the 2004 versions either. I do agree though that the audio should be corrected from the 2004 versions, they were kinda crazy. But I just love being a Star Wars fan. I mean think about it. All you have to say is "May the Force be with you." and people know what ur talking about, it's awesome!!

Honestly, as much as I am looking forward to the possible specs and box art, I'm more interested in what kind of firestorm that will be unleashed when the box set is not going to be what the majority want...

...tomorrow should get really, really interesting.

It won't matter what is announced. People will complain regardless. It's a fact of life.

From what i gather:

1) People want 7.1
2) People want the color corrected.
3) People want the UOT.

I have a feeling that 2 of the 3 will be remedied.

But you are right this should get interesting.

As long as the ****ed up colour timing is fixed, I'll be happy. That bugged me even more than the godawful sound mix for Star Wars. The dodgy optical effects are what they are, so I can live with those goofs; while the crossed lightsaber shot in Jedi is a new ****-up, the pink saber for Vader is not. Go and check your precious LD or VHS copies of the originals if you don't believe me. Even Luke's famously green saber (when training aboad the Falcon) wasn't blue originally, but white. Same balls-up, different colour.

But please, please, PLEASE fix the colour timing. That weird blue halo around the Death Star when it blows is utterly, spectacularly wrong.

I have a feeling they will fix the color, they went back and redid the color for Phantom Menace I believe because it has a pink/ red hue to it that makes it look so unnatural. But I think a color change will be in store for the Blu-Rays!!

Then somebody cant want both 1 & 3 right ?

Because if they want the UOT then they would also get just dolby stereo.

There is no consistency with the so-called UOT fans.

"I want the UOT. But I want the audio redone for 5/7.1 and the matte lines et all removed. And the Lightsabers fixed up.".

If you want the UOT it should be the original films through a 4K scan with a 4.0 lossless track.

Personally, I don't think it should be 7.1. It ought to be 5.1 for the revamped ones..

Even going back to 77, the 70mm prints of Star Wars had six track audio (which included surrounds and subs) so no, even the purest of purists wouldn't be limited to dolby stereo.

The visual effects get the lion's share of the attention but Star Wars and Close Encounters were *huge* leaps forward in audio and essentially put multi-channel mixes on the map.

Wrong.

I mean as far as you mean the name of it, it is correct. But, people may think that dolby stereo in UOT would be just 2.0 or 2.1, which is wrong.

Original Star Wars had superior six track audio and it's reconstruction is available on the net. I've heard it and I must say, that it was better than this garbage made for 2004 DVD. For lightsabers it is the same story. I saw the pictures of technicolor print from original 1977 Star Wars and the effect were outstanding. Much better than SE.

You can call me whatever you want, but there is something wrong when SE is in some places worse, than outdated film from 1977. And I'm not even starting to talk about crushed blacks...

I really hope that Lucas made new OT transfers, because it's ridiculous when SE, which should be better, is worse than old film.

No argument with either of those.

Not only would I be perfectly happy with the original audio for a hypothetical UOT release, I tend to be pretty skeptical of remixing audio tracks in general.

For the most part remixes have been pretty unobtrusive (Taxi Driver is a good example of restraint) but sooner or later somebody will get a little too cute with the editing tools.
