I am looking forward to the announcement. Just hoping for some screen caps of the all of the films of the OT and TPM (don't care about the other two, I know they will look fine). Just concerned about the previously mentioned color issues and how TPM is going to look. TPM has looked terrible in every format since the theater. Hoping they get it right this time.

oh, and yes, 7.1 would be nice.

Original Star Wars had superior six track audio and it's reconstruction is available on the net. I've heard it and I must say, that it was better than this garbage made for 2004 DVD. For lightsabers it is the same story. I saw the pictures of technicolor print from original 1977 Star Wars and the effect were outstanding. Much better than SE.

You can call me whatever you want, but there is something wrong when SE is in some places worse, than outdated film from 1977. And I'm not even starting to talk about crushed blacks...

I really hope that Lucas made new OT transfers, because it's ridiculous when SE, which should be better, is worse than old film.
Talk about hitting the nail on the head ... that is exactly what I hope for if the UOT is ever released. Also, the errors with the DVD release is a big deal to me. The Special Editions dont bother me, in fact I enjoy some of the changes and remember seeing them in theaters and trying to pick out every change I could find and reading all about the process they went thru to make them. It was an exciting time for me. However the DVD release, really broke my heart. I've seen fan films that have better looking lightsabers than the DVD had, and the score being changed during the trench run in ANH really upset me. Like I said earlier, MOST of the changes to the trilogy do not bother me it's the Audio and picture issues with the DVD release that do.

Yeah. That's right. Different people. I'm sure lots of people would like the original Dolby Stereo, as long as it was uncompressed.

If you want to throw a 7.1 soundtrack on as an alternate audio track, that's cool.

And lots of other people would like the 7.1 and don't care so much about the UOT.

Nice to have both, although it obviously won't happen.

To my surprise, I actually thought that the sound from the ported over IV UOT extra from the LD to the 2004-DVD was much much better than it's SE version.

So here's hoping that this will change with these new BDs.

And yes, also hoping that those 'crushed blacks' and 'awful colors' are gone too.

I hope, if the films will be in individual cases within the set, that they get new artwork. I hated the DVD art work.

I hope it's all original artwork inside the box.

That'd be great.

Looks like they fixed the countdown. It no longer use your computer's clock so now all time zones shows the same numbers.

13 HOURS 45 MINUTES

It'll be 9.00 PM here in Malaysia.

Same. Just not copies of the same old artwork.

That whole "the original prints cannot be used" bit is a lie.

I don't recall Lucas ever claiming that "prints" were an issue. The original negative was the issue, and that's been well documented to be true.

Agreed. And this can most likely be accomplished from existing prints.

With the way they're dolling up this release date with the countdown and what not, I'll be pretty pissed off if these films aren't at least a little de-altered.

If not that, what could be so exciting about all of this? Oh wow, a new documentary with a bunch of talking heads.

I think people are going to be angry and rightfully so.

I hope you are joking. When people say they want the UOT they mean a restored version of what was originally presented in theatres this includes sound. They don't mean "I want a replica of the prints from 77',80', and 83'"

What they want is the same movies (Story, effects etc.) that were released originally, but with cleaned up picture and a new 7.1 mix (also having the original audio available).

Movies like Alien, Aliens, Wizard of Oz, Godfather Trilogy, James Bond movies, and Blade Runner have all had substantial upgrades in picture and sound. All of the original theatrical versions are avaible. In essence they are unaltered. They are not the equivalent of the Starwars SE's which have had scenes tampered with, changing aspects of the story or completely having new scenes put in that are redundant.

Having said that I prefer the SE over the UOT. Other than Greedo shooting first I love every change. Even Hayden instead of Sebastian.

Its just that some of the Pro-SE fans here seem to just as bad as the haters.
Obviouly we are never getting the UNaltered Trilogy in the near future and it should also be obvious that the OT is a hell of a lot more popular than the PT.

I tend to agree. I couldn't tell you exactly why but it feels like the ice is breaking a little on this.

Not everyone wants a new 7.1 on the OT, some want the original audio, in the same original configuration. I'd like to have both! I wouldn't mind having the original versions, but I would probably watch the newer one more.

Well, be prepared to be pissed for no reason. Because it won't change anything.

The exciting part is getting the Star Wars saga on Blu-Ray. That's all it's ever been hyped as.

People have been asking for the films on Blu-Ray since the format launched. And given how long the wait was before the films were released on DVD, it's a pretty big deal that they're coming this soon. I don't really get your point, given this is a Blu-Ray website after all.
