I think the long overdue Blu release will bring episodes 1,2 & 3 back to life.

Natalie was by far the best choice Lucas could have made!

Agreed! To me Star Wars is 6 Episodes. No more, no less!

IMO George has created some of the most amazing cinematic moments ever!!!

There are so many scenes that simply blow me away!

Thanks George, and thank you for not listening to the "fans", otherwise the PT would have ended up a Darth Vader slaughter feast.

Actually it's pretty close, he does slaughter baby Jedi and Sand people. Fans aren't all bad, I've read a lot of good EU novels.

It was a great choice, just poorly executed. Lucas took one of the premiere actresses of her generation, who showed deep emotion and nuanced performance beyond what most actresses ever achieve, before she was even out of her training bra, and turned her into a wooden computer...

Sad, but true.

I'm not trying to sound defensive here but, I was listening the commentary for Attack of the Clones the other day and GL actually says how all the dialogue and acting are very deliberate because it's meant to be in the style of the 1930s sci-fi serials. However I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

George can say whatever he wants, the truth is he's infamous in Hollywood for his horrendously wooden writing. There's even a running joke that his script writing was worse before he met Stephen Spielberg but I don't see how that's possible.

Well Georgen Lucas seriously hates Hollywood and has always tried to stay as far ways from them as possible, because he likes to control his work and not have excutives tamper with it.

The ironic thing is that GL actually co-wrote Episode II because of how poorly recieved Episode I was. So you can't put total blame on GL.

And, Carrie Fisher did some script doctoring herself for the Amidala/Anakin stuff.

Someone above mentioned the "intentional" acting as if it was a 30's/40's film, which I can buy to a certain extent, but it was really the stilted delivery that was the issue more than the tone. If you look at classic films pre-"STELLAAHHHH!" the acting is different and less naturalistic, but several scenes sound like really poor line readings from a first-draft roundtable, as opposed to stylized acting.

A more modern version of that acting can be found in Basic Instinct 2 - Sharon Stone was channeling pure Joan Crawford in that role (which is fitting since Stone is a huge Crawford fanatic). Overall that wasn't a very good film, but for fans of that style of acting just watching Sharon's scenes is gold (if you skip all the other stuff).

You don't get that experience with the prequels. Most notably what stands out is the "fireside living room" scene in AotC. I just couldn't believe what a badly done performance he managed to get out of such a talented actress.

That said, I enjoy the prequel films - but their glaring issues are still apparent. I just can't imagine what direction he gave Natalie that brought that stilted, broken performance.

"Ok, that's good, but break it up a little more - like you are a handicapped dolphin..."

Yeah, that was me.

I think when it comes down is that the intentional acting, that was something GL knew about and wanted to have in a very specific style, but the actors didn't know about this and so sometimes the acting does come across as... wooden.

This is another reason why GL isn't liked as a director because, he doesn't tell his actors everything, and as such this is why Episode V is said to be the best because Irvin Kershner did tell his actors everything.

Yet, I would never hate the prequels. I enjoy them for what they are, and for me Star Wars feels more complete with them.

Oh yes, as I've said before, IV-VI are the better films but they bring you in at the end or near the end of the story. The prequels introduce you to the characters and flesh out the story more and I think improve the overall franchise.

I just listened to the commentary track of AOTC the other night, and I think we are about the oly two who have, since fans always complain, but don't get that SW is supposed to be that way.

I have zero problems with the romantic dialogue scenes, as they have their unique tone and feel which I love.
Call me crazy, or a blinded fanboy, I don't care. George' vision and my taste just click quite perfectly.

People can say whatever they want, the truth is Hollywood is infamous for only doing unoriginal stuff these days, such as reboots, remakes, sequels and prequels. TDK doesn't have better dialogue than AOTC.

It seems what it comes down to is that the acting and dialogue are in a different style to the rest of Hollywood, so it seems to be bad.

If for no other reasons than a lot more happened in III than VI and there was no army of teddy bears in III, yes.
