For the most part, the main cast of the original Star Wars movies has tried to distance themselves away from anything having to do with the Star Wars phenomenon. You have to remember that they have dealt with these fan crazy intrusions into their life since 1977. At some point, they basically took the atittude that "enough is enough". Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and the rest of the cast have been wanting to move on and become known for something other than "Star Wars" and you cannot fault them for that.

Harrison Ford has made quite a few good movies that are neither Star Wars nor Science Fiction. I personally enjoyed "Witness", "Air Force One" and many other films he has made. It's not all about Star Wars and I think these actors have given us more than enough of their personal time.
But harrison ford doesnt do commentaries for air force one or witness does he? the guy is a tool. I've tried to find interviews about him and star wars and they are rare...it would have been nice if he did the commentary this time...so fine..he didn't do it...he never will...

but how do you explain mark hammil NOT doing it?????

So youre saying that they are just grabbing soundbites from old interviews and putting them in as an audio commentary? thats cheating isn't?

I really, do think the first one is ALL NEW!!! but we won't know till sep I guess because they don't give you dates..

how could they put in an audio commentary from 3 decades together and syncrhonize it with the film as it's playing? it's a commentary not parts and parts put together...it doesn't say they are interviews, but commentaries...

so one has to be from the DVD...what other one did they have?
Guess you never heard any of the Bond movie commentaries.

That's probably one of the biggest ironies. Han Solo and Indiana Jones are practically the same character. Yeah they have different backgrounds, etc but it's not like Harrison Ford has a whole lot of range as an actor.

That's exactly what I'm saying. "Commentary from Archival Interviews with Cast and Crew" - that seems pretty clear to me.

"Cheating"? I don't even know what that means in this context.

Terminator 2 leaps to mind as a commentary that did this as well (stringing together interview audio from participants). And James Bond.

Dude is busy? He does a ton of voice work for Video Games and Cartoons, so he just may not have had time in his schedule. Also, he might not have been asked to do it? Plenty of reasons. Was Harrison Ford asked to participate? Probably not. Dunno if you guys have seen him on Letterman, Conan or Leno but the dude is a boring interview.

I see. to be honest the only commentaries I really put attention too are star wars ones...I spend hours and hours listening to them..other movies with commentaries don't really matter that much to me somehow...

Maybe he's busy? Maybe he feels he has already talked this to death over the decades and he can let his previous interviews stand? Maybe he wanted an appearance fee that they weren't willing to pay? Maybe he's sick? Maybe he got a flat on the way to the recording studio?

Or, the actual answer, MAYBE THIS SET DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY NEWLY-RECORDED COMMENTARY TRACK.

Does anyone know if this forum has an "ignore" feature that's easy to go to?

You're incredibly generous with other people's time.

EDIT: And you're also radically underestimating the time required. Someone randomly sitting down with a mic in front of a film results in a TERRIBLE commentary. If you listened to more of them, you'd experience that. "Umm... yeah... I remember filming that day. It was hot. Hey - I forgot about this part. Here's where <explains the plot>. Oh, that guy there was nice too. Don't remember his name." Etc. etc.

Or maybe we're only six or seven tweets away from finding out he really IS doing one.

Oooh, I'm getting all tingly just thinking about it.

OK, so has anyone unlocked a full trailer for this release yet, or maybe the full package art?

Mark Hammils is not that busy that he can't take a day to record a commentary ok? this is supposed to be the ultimate set..when was the last time Mark talked about star wars on video or on mic? and not just an interview...1996? thats been a long time...

I know you guys probably think i'm crazy because i'm making a big deal about the commentary...but the commentaries are so important coming from the actor...

it's cool that the extra's will have all the making of's from the 70's/80's on it. I am guessing it will be a blu-ray disc with SD on it. like was done with the "Alien Extra's blu-rays) I hope I am wrong.
