Considering there will be about 40hours of Specials there are about ten hours left for discs 7 and 8... those two discs will have the real cool stuff. The Specials on disc 9 sound ok and all, but I couldn´t care less about "Star Warriors" and "Spoofs".

The real question remains... Have the movies been mastered and enhanced properly? I guess they´ll look great but some example images wouldn´t have hurt.

I was hoping to get the technical details for the films too, I'm sure we can take is as read that they are 1080p widescreen (not 16:9) versions and we know the sound, but are there any tweaks and changes? Is the Yoda in EpI CGI? Have the saber effects been cleaned up for consistency?

I've ordered the full set and was a little disappointed with the cover art, the individual sets look much better. I preferred the teaser box with it's black background and StarWars logo on the front.

And still no collectors box. There's still time for all this to happen though.

I'll bet the reveal of the picture and sound quality will be revealed at Comic Con this July.

I mean, the Tatooine sky looked awesome in the prequels; you'd think they'd do something like that for the artwork.
Excellent point - looks like it was designed by marketing shmoes, not artists. This will require MAJOR mock-up art...IF I buy it. Which I'm not so sure anymore.

Also, regarding the "40 hours of extra material" - over half of it is commentaries...could have done a better job.

Who are you trying to fool? You're posting on a movie forum in the SW thread... and in the wee hrs of the morning. You know you're going to have it day 1.

Tell me about it! What the frak was up with the Tron cover? Why not just use the poster art, like they did for the 20th Anniv DVD? That would have been awesome. Instead, we got "extreme close-up" of the costuming in what appears to be far more dorky than I ever remember it being in the film. Oh, well...

Since it sounds like you are only going to be investing in the OT, then you will be getting the best cover out of this bunch.

Niiiice! Found all six (EDIT: looks like the PT ones may be fan art, and not by Olly Moss):

Sweeet!
Duuude!

Lovin' the ESB poster. The Bespin effect with Boba's mask is awesome. The tree effect on Vader's mask on RotJ is cool, but a bit harder to see. All in all, very nice. Methinks I will use the hi-rez ones for the OT and print them out and slip them into my 2004 DVD clammys. Thanks for the HU on those!

For those interested, here are the highest rez I found for the OT and the PT (actually, you can find higher rez posters on the PT individually).

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Best covers ever are the movie poster ones. This is a really bad pic, but best I could Google with all three in one shot:

The pastel color scheme mixed with the art style just doesn't vibe with the product it represents, IMO.
Yup, yup, yup... I would rather have that plain jane cover that someone posted that was just yellow text on black. Seriously.

So, you're basically saying that you never liked any of the movie posters? All collage there. And as far as the "painting look", I prefer it over photos. Artsy covers blend better than photo covers, as greg was talking about above. Even the SE posters (sans the major screwup on RotJ).

Take a peek...

One last thing, just to be all-encompassing, this is the most complete collage that I found, though it is photo rather than artsy:

NOW THAT would be the ULTIMATE slipcover.

Oh I could only dream...I usually care very little about packaging (most Blu-ray art sucks, I would prefer theatrical posters but they keep hiring some intern high school student to photoshop crap together), but the thought of seeing the Saga edition on my shelf kind of makes me barf in my mouth a little.

Ronin, I'm not in the US now, so I'm wide awake

Vulcan,
With the exception of Empire and maybe SW, those posters are way, WAY to busy (what's with the ridiculous lighting effect...?)
The DVD covers were ok, at best..

It's clear that force is very weak with them when it comes to design...

As for the cover art, yyyyeah--A little TOO close to the imagined fan ethos, when we wanted future generations to see something with a few iconic spaceships in it, or at least Bukax's idea of the "THIS is the box!" title-on-black iconography.
They wanted the Anakin's-shadow imagery from Menace's poster, and Luke/Owen musing over the landscape from Ep. 3-4, but put the two together (to suggest the "joined trilogies"), and....it don't make any danged sense.
Only makes it look like Luke has a 9-yo. father.

The saga art would actually work a lot better without any figures. I don't mind the clean landscape (though it could look a little less fingerpainty, for lack of a better ie real word) and Tattoine is a natural point of convergence for both trilogies.

At first glance the trilogy covers seemed far too busy but they're starting to grow on me to the point where I'm kind of hoping they're used as part of the saga packaging. Four discs per trilogy case with those covers with a thin single-disc case for the last extra discs could be okay.

And yes, all reservations aside, these are leaps and bounds above the DVD art.

But then so were the red, blue and black placeholders.

Covers are starting to grow on me. They are much better in high def (just received them). Except the complete box of course.

So any info on the sound being DTS-HD instead of lossy ?

Does anyone else think that some of the alternate scenes might be the original scenes like Han shooting first, the original Jabba's palace song etc?

Anyone up to the challenge of creating alternate artwork? to be honest, I'd rather put a brown paper bag on the box set cover than see it on the shelf. Not to mention the vomit-colored prequel box and the OT, where Vader looks as if he's either sleepwalking or got hit on the head.

Fox Executive Discusses Blu-ray Plans

Quote:
Star Wars: Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy will consist of four discs each – one for each movie and one bonus disc. Star Wars: The Complete Saga will have an additional special features disc, for a total of nine.

The remastering of the movies has been performed by Lucasfilm and will offer "the most recently updated versions of the movies," with "even more enhancements to the picture quality." When asked about Fox's answer to the fans that want to see the three original versions released, Marcais replied: "The versions that are being released are closest to George Lucas' vision. Other than that, no comment."

Yeah, same old "These are closest to George Lucas' vision" BS. We will never see an official Unaltered OT version released. Now it's to the point where I think GL isn't going to release them just to spite us.

I think, with the combination of the Prequel DVDs and the Original Trilogy '04 box set, the purchase of the Saga box set will be my final Star Wars purchase on home video.

I'm elated with the material we're getting and when you combine it with everything, I don't think I need much Star Wars than that of 19 discs worth of movies and supplements.

I'm pretty well with you here. It is too the point now where all I really want is reference A/V for the movies... well, as close to ref as we can expect for these films.
