Plus I found a theforce.net member mention this article from this exact website:

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5821

Talking about "most recently updated versions of the movies" but does that mean there will be no new changes?

"even more enhancements to the picture quality" That pretty much guarantees there was a new transfer, not the old HD transfer they used in 2004. 4K-8K transfer maybe?

This guy makes it seem like they are doing quite a crappy job with the Blu-ray set. Is he just a pissed off fan or is it true? I mean how can he even say all that without watching them?

Ideas? Thoughts?
If you read thru the ENTIRE Piece, he's only "reviewing" () what was released yesterday (the specs, the commentaries, extras on the discs, etc.), NOT the Actual movies, as YES, they're not AVAILABLE for Anyone to review yet.

He seems to be going by the information that Lucasfilm has officially put forth. In fairness, he does say that he doesn't know what exactly has or hasn't been done to the fims themselves... IF it turns out that the films have been significantly improved from the 2004 versions, it might be a worthwhile purchase. Going by what he says about what he actually knows, I tend to agree with his summations...

I personally feel that instead of screwing around with The Clone Wars animated series (creating contradictions), Lucas should've been preparing the blu-ray set to end all blu-ray sets. There was certainly plenty of time to do this one right.

...A re-edited, extended version of these films with some of the "lost" scenes would've made for an event.

I can deal with multi-tiered releases if the price is reasonable, and there's some bang for your buck. But not for films that have been out there for years (decades in the case of the OT), released multiple times, and now with little added value from the last set.

Don't get too worked up about what people say. Star Wars has always had many haters who have tried to discredit the franchise. It's really unfair to criticize these sets until they have been released and properly reviewed... and even then you have to make up your own mind.

I agree. But from the way the track listing reads, there's not much truly great or unseen material in this set. It also looks like any deleted/extended/lost scenes are availabe as extras, rather than finished & added to the films properly. But, just because it would seem as though these scenes haven't been added, doesn't mean significant changes haven't been made. That info couldn't be guessed at from the disc listings. I am reserving judgement until I see the films, but I do stand by what I said (or agreed with) earlier, that the contents of the set aren't that impressive.

Fair enough. For me, I have seen and read so much extra content on this franchise that I'm to the point where all that's important now is stunning reference quality audio and video. One thing I've learned from all my years of being a fan of SW is that most of my watching is in the films themselves. All that other bonus material rarely gets viewed and isn't a priority for me any more. I know I'm not alone in this thinking either...

... But I understand those who want every last drop of SW material as I was once in that camp to.

I think a lot of fans feel this way which makes their omission to describe anything specific regarding the video and audio yesterday all the more perplexing. Box art and special features are secondary to the films themselves and this release has been very vague and cryptic regarding those technical details. I can only hope they are waiting to unveil those details to stir up positive buzz about the release closer to the release date. Uncropped Spike TV transfers will not suffice I am afraid.

So... no word yet on whether the unaltered versions of the original trilogy (Ep IV & V & VI) will be available?

It's been addressed & answered - long story short: NO.

(a page or so back, give or take, was a post from someone at LucasFilms, who said THESE releases are the ONLY ONES he'll be putting out on Blu', as they're the closest to what George had in mind. End. Period.)

** EDIT: I just tried looking for the post, & it appears to - for some reason (?) - been deleted. It WAS only a page or 2 back roughly, but I went back like 5-7 pages & it's no longer there. But the gist of it was "What's being released in Sept., IS the Closest to George's vision of what he wanted, or how he wanted the movies to be." **

Not with this release.

But why would you even want them? I mean George Lucas has said on many occasions that the Special Editions are his preferred versions. So just adjust your own personal opinions to align with his and you will be happy.

Personally, I think they'll have gone back and done a 4K transfer of these films. I recall at the 'CES' event (January this year) the spokesman said the films would reach up to "40 mgea-bits per second", which could surely only be possible with transfers.

Whats more, he said the films would look "better than ever", suggesting they're suitable for theatre release. And don't forget too that this transfer is also being used for the 3D ports of the movie, so theirs no way they could just make do with 1080p copies.

Yes, I agree the info that has been released on the video and audio side has been vague at best. This is a bit of a concern for me as well. I'm trying to stay positive though because there really isn't anything we can do about it.

...and they better not pass off some uncropped spike TV transfer..lol

I agree. Im not fond of all of the changes hes made but overall, the cleaned up effects and most of the additions are welcomed, IMO. I do understand why people might want the original, unaltered theatrical editions though. There isnt any reason they couldnt be included as well.

Im tired of Box Sets and whatever not containing EVERY version of EVERY film in a series. There just isnt any excuse for it. Look at how well Alien was done - you get all versions of all the films and a great set of extras. Done. Thats how they should all be.

On the other hand, look at the debacle LOTR was with just a bare bones release of the TE's followed by an EE release. Why couldnt they have just done the whole set and been done with it? Dont say money either - they could have charged probably MORE than double for a full set of LOTR if they would have released an ultimate package or whatever. Meh.

I would say that you are right! Wish we have a visual aid to confirm the thoughts (i.e. vids of the films or screen caps, whatever). But I feel somewhat confident. However, after the way the UOT was released on DVD, I am not feeling really trusting..lol If they had just released those in anamorphic widescreen I would be drinking the Lucas Kool Aid by the gallon.
