Given what is probably coming down the pipeline (more modifications to the '04 releases) I am going to suspend any more purchases. I'm not boycotting, just being selective in what I want to buy.

I'm not interested in this release if that is what its going to be. If I can have the UOT on bluray at some point then I'll buy it. If I can't, then I won't.

Are any of you guys excited to see the new changes like I am? I know a lot of you are against it, but I can't wait to see the new changes. It's the closest to a new Star Wars movie as we are likely to get. I hope GL soups them up like crazy!

I cannot believe that I am actually posting a comment to this, but here goes: I enjoy Star Wars. I saw the original (without Episode 4 on the title scroll) in the theater. Several times. I can probably quote most of these movies from beginning to end. However, is it really life and death to some of you that he made changes? I mean, come on, these are just movies. The earth is going to spin at exactly the same speed whether the original or enhanced movies are released. I would like all versions, but if the decision is made to release only one version, I am going to sleep just fine.

I really wish people would focus their concerns on the quality of the picture and audio. Give me Star Wars with the best possible audio and video on the best format out there. I bet 95% of this thread is an endless debate on how greedy Lucas is becuase the original versions aren't being released. I say burn the "Han Shot First" t-shirts and go outside and get some fresh air. Get some exercise. Read a book (no, not an expanded universe one). Go get a dog. If this is so infuiating to you that you are bothered by it, you may need help.

I did not mean this post to insult or enrage anybody. You are welcome to your opinions. I do not intend to be hurtful in any way. Nevertheless, these are just movies.

I'm more concerned about the quality of the transfer than any kind of 'enhancements' of Special Edition larks. The more I think about it, the more I get myself into a geeky-frustration that must make G.L's eyeballs roll!

The main thing I'm thinking of is what source was used for the Hi-Def scan. The processes have, at least from one source I've read, began with the Special Editions where the original negatives were dismantled, cleaned and put onto a new stock with the CGI enhancements. Thats fine, but what happened to those original film elements? Could they do anything with them today that they couldn't in 1995-7?

I guess the 2004 release doesn't count because that was just a complete scan of the Special Editions. The only reason I'm concerned is because is Lucas wants to plan for the 3D releases, he and Lowry will be wanting the best quality source available. So is that really the Special Editions?

My dream release of the Star Wars Saga would be to have two versions of the films. One version would be a balls to the wall Special Edition that updates everything to conform to George Lucas' exact vision of all six films. The second version would be a restored completely unaltared version of the the films EXACTLY as what was shown theatrically. It's not a question of if a release like this will ever happen, but when (even if it's 20 years from now).

The only changes on the 2004 DVDs that really bothered me were the visible boxes around TIE fighters, the shaded lightsabers, blade-color screwups, and the muted score for the Battle of Yavin. If those get fixed, I'll be very happy. As for any other changes, I've seen several "fan videos" that use prequel footage as Vader's memories for "Return of the Jedi"; it'd be cool if Lucas could do something like that. I'm also interested to see how the new, digital Yoda will look in Episode I.

Yep, probably. For some odd reason, there's some folks that just love to bicker for the sake of it.

That really is a matter of opinion because I really don't like 3D. Maybe when I can watch a 3D movie with out needing goggles.

I don't see why people get so annoyed about discussing SW in general because we need to be 'discussing the BDs only'... there's no more news about the BDs, would people just prefer this thread was forgotten until a tidbit of news about the set came out? It's a release of the MOVIES, why can't we discuss them, and the ways we do or don't think they should be released...

^ Oh I agree about being able to discuss them but unfortunately that amounts to pages and pages of people saying exactly the same thing stating their point of view and at the end of the day the films have been out for 6-34 years. Most everything that can be said about the films has been said and the rest of the thread is filled with people making an argument pro-changes, against changes, pro-prequels, prequel-haters and everything in between. Ultimately though no one's changing anyone's mind because if you like the prequels you like them, if you won't watch the original trilogy with the alterations you won't. No amount of "discussion" will change that and so it goes on...

Meanwhile, I suspect most of us have this thread favourited in order to follow actual news about it. Following the endless posts going round and round in circles about the same stuff that's been discussed since '97 (and earlier) for the original trilogy and '99 for the PT doesn't help the situation.

I love the original trilogy - I'd like to see it in it's unaltered form but I'll also watch and enjoy it with the changes. I like the prequel trilogy, though in some aspects less than the original. I'll enjoy watching it when it's released too. 1,000 pages of posts making arguments from certain points of view isn't going to turn me into a prequel basher or a Lucas hater though so you can imagine why that sort of conversation becomes redundant to a lot of people. It doesn't change your view of the films, it doesn't change the point of view of the person you may have been responding to and it doesn't change the view of the people reading it (unless they've never seen Star Wars and don't have a point of view formed yet).

Just my 2 cents, but until screenshots, detailed specs, info about changes etc comes out the discussion will primarily be composed of the same old bashing, gushing, attacking, defending that's been going on for years. There'll be some very intelligent debate in there also, but again a lot of it has been covered before. Star trek fans did it with Kirk vs. Picard. They kind of got over it.... for the most part. Trek threads don't become battlegrounds quite so much like that any more because there's so much choice.

Hell, I almost wish George would do another trilogy. Then it couldn't be "us" and "them". It'd have to be "us" and "them" and... "them". To quote Anakin: "If you're not with me (prequel lover), then you're against me (original trilogy lover)." Ah, but what to do if there was a Sequel Trilogy! Three options would break down a bit of the "us vs. them" mentality!

It might not change a thing but I think it would make a lot more progress than just fighting about it online.
Things on large forums get around. Consider that we got remastered versions of Gladiator and Gangs of New York, and are getting remastered versions of Patton and Fellowship of the Ring, would that have happened if all the large AV forums didn't raise a big stink over those discs? Large forums are certainly a better outlet than online petitions, who even looks at those?
Regardless, Lucas and his people are perfectly aware of the issue, he's just being a jerk.

You can't produce a real anamorphic DVD from a 4:3 letterboxed source. No such thing. You'd have prefered that they do the zoom in-house instead of you doing it in your TV?

Precisely; you'd have to source the DVD content from a high-quality film negative.

On another note, I found this clip on YouTube, and wasn't sure if anyone had posted it before. Check it out!
