Enough is enough.
Because they were made first? To me, it would be obvious that if you do make prequels, you make them fit the movies already made, instead of the other way around. But no. Instead of doing that we get some CGI additions to movies that don't need them, and Yoda and Emperor Palpatine fighting with lightsabers because it "looks cool".

Maybe he should go a step worse, and make the sabers in ESB and ROTJ as bad as they were in ANH's original release.

In particular the shots of Luke on the Falcon and Obi-Wan's stick saber in a couple shots before they were fixed.

Improvng of special effects, sets, make-up, costumes, and so on, are going to happen as a franchie adds more films. See: Star Trek.

Too bad in a way though...love my Star Wars in the original form (flaws and all) Just like I love my Gone with the Wind (fake looking fire), fake looking shark in Jaws, fake looking head spin in The Exorcist etc..etc...etc..love my flaws and all. It's just a part of cinema history. Maybe Lucas should have made the prequels right after Jedi in 86, 89 and 92. Maybe then we would not have so much controversy?

I'm sure they still would have. Regardless, I can't wait for the set.

I noticed some discussion of the second set of audio commentaries. I'm gonna guess from the sound of it, it's going to be like some of those classic Diseny audio commentaries that are pasted together from a variety of archival elements. Such as on set recordings, interviews, and the like. So it should be pretty interesting. Other studios have done commentaries like this before also. I think the T2 Blu-Ray has one in fact. It should be interesting.

Correct. I'm assuming they were put together with Rintzler went through the audio recordings for the "Making of" books that he's put together. I can only imagine there is going to be some overlap.

Most of SNL humor is sophomoric and tedious, especially in recent years, but that particular bit with Shatner was very funny, much in the same light as Galaxy Quest.

Where were you able to confirm it? I haven't been able to find anything official except the May 4th listing and the product listings on the official site, Amazon, and 20th Century Fox. You found more details on this set? Anything more on disc 8?

The description of the various tracks on the specs list pretty much confirms it will be what he and I are suggesting.

It's not confirmed as public knowledge as of yet but, again, feel free to believe what you want. However, it's the truth.

Like it or not, "Star Wars" is largely what put Harrison on the cultural map, and many of us would like to see him more directly involved with its legacy.
I think it might be best to remember that Star Wars was just a job to Mr. Ford and not much more. He doesn't seem like the type to get attached to any one role (with the exception of Indiana Jones which is a role I think he actually loves). Besides, the guy LOVES his privacy and doesn't seem to me that conventions are something he would particually enjoy (I get a very Alec Guiness vibe there). I also sorta suspect he realizes Star Wars is George's big thing and to leave it well enough alone out of respect.

Well, if that's what we get, that sounds great. While I'd love to have all the old extras in one comprehensive set, a fresh commentary track would be a lot nicer than just hearing old tracks again.

Oh, Brent was a crackup from the start. He was signing pics for fans early on when he arrived at the show, and then he joined Michael Dorn and John DeLancie (who were also there) in a "Star Trek Q & A" session (even impersonating Michael Keaton, who showed up briefly to promote his film "White Noise"). When I went to his table, he was very nice, and took a few brief minutes to chat (there were also lots of folks in his line). I got a signed 8x10 of "Data the card dealer", and left...only to realize about 30 minutes later that I'd left my wallet behind. When I came back, someone had apparently kicked it under his table, and when I found it, he joked, "Hey, that's my wallet." To this day, he's probably one of my favorite celebs I've ever met.

Sounds like you've had some great experiences at the conventions. Cool stuff. It's good to hear that Brent Spiner was such a nice guy, and funny too.

Considering you've never heard this track before, it's not "old."

Personally, I'd rather hear something that was recorded at the time the movie was being made than people whose memories fade after 35 years.

It should be interesting indeed. Probably the first extras I'll check out will be those. September seems so far away.

Didn't see you were from Dallas. Thought you might have been from out of the country and unaware of "SNL."

You misunderstood me. In my post that you're referring to, I'm saying that I'd rather hear these new commentaries you're talking about and that I'm glad that it sounds like we won't be hearing the old (Definitive Collection) commentaries again. The fresh track I referred to is the one you claim we're getting. The "old tracks" that I was referring to were the old DC set commentaries.

What I was hoping for commentary-wise was definitely some sort of Video-Commentary. I could be wrong but I think I remember Rick McCallum talking about the possibilities the Blu-Ray format offered and so on. I think itīs very strange for Lucasfilm not to use this popular BD-feature.

I generally couldnīt care less about commentaries by actors. So I was hoping Lucas recorded new commentaries for all of the movies. That way he could go a little more in depth.

What I also hoped for were people not involved in the making the way Criterion does them. Some film-historian or someone from the Joseph Campbell society could talk about the cinematic or mythological influences Star Wars has. Clips or photos of Flash Gordon, Kurusawa films, Buster Keaton movies, classic myths could be shown in the extra window.

The possibilities are endless... So I am, even though I love Star Wars, a little let down by the special features of the BD presented to this point. They all seem to be a little shallow and uninspired. They go little to much into the typical fanboy direction... especially disc 9. It could be filled with in-depth documentaries about each of the movies... instead we get "Star-Warriors" and "Star Wars spoofs".

OK, ok... we have to wait and see.
When I get some deleted scenes finished with effects and all for each of the movies and ,most of all, if the movies itself are mastered and enhanced to perfection (talking of perfect sabers, Alderaan in E4, cgi Yoda in E1 and even more enhanced effects in E4 - E6) I am perfectly fine!

That would be nice, but I doubt Lucas would allow his crown jewels to be put under unbiased scrutiny.

I have no idea where people get this distorted image of Lucas from...
And what is the problem with the Special Edition?
