the US "book" is not that great... 3 of my discs had scuffs caused by taking the discs in and out of the slots...

they're not deep and barely noticeable, but the entire problem would have been avoided if the set was say, a digipak or an amaray case

it looks nice, but it's just not that practical and i immediately moved my discs into separate cases.

Additionally, if he still feels the need to keep the Han/Jabba scene in the first film, maybe third time will be the charm on their rendering of Jabba. The 2004 version was an improvement from the '97 version, but it still looked really plasticy and out of place.
I agree - the CG is so bad that I hope they redid a lot of it. If they are gonna do it, do it right.

Where the heck were the two of you last week in the Alien thread where a couple of "nothing to see here" posters were telling me I was wacky for thinking that could happen, and that it's "impossible" to scratch a Blu by sliding it flat against cardboard, LOL.

After seeing the US set, I cancelled my preorder. I won't be buying those crappy books Fox keeps thinking are somehow adequate protection for these uber-deluxe sets. They may look lovely, but I care about the disc inside much more than "oooh!" and "ahh!" over shiny cardboard any day of the week.

I'll wait for the UK packaging to be revealed - I'm sure it will be real packaging, like they did with Aliens. I don't care what it looks like, so long as it has proper disc hubs that protect the discs.

Should the UK set not be correct either, I'll just say to heck with it and buy the single trilogy sets. The last disc doesn't have much content I haven't already seen or own anyway.

You don't miss out on 1 disc, you miss out on three. The separate trilogies are 3 disc sets, the Saga is 9.

so the trilogy sets contain the three movie discs and thats it?! thats surprising... I figured they'd at least contain their respective extras disc, maybe leave the Documentary disc exclusive to the complete saga set.

$100 for all 9 discs or $110 for just the 6 movies, no extras no brainer for me!

As much as I've been complaining about the packaging, I'll have no problem moving the discs into separate cases and putting them beside the nice box.

As for the the Alien set, on the bright side, 2 of the scuffed discs are movies. I've played the films all the way through without problems, but at least they can be re-bought individually if worst comes to worst. One extras disc is scuffed, but it's very minor. Haven't played it all the way through yet, but honestly I don't think Fox would mind sending out extras of the bonus features disc on the off chance that there are problems... So far so good as far as the video/audio goes, just annoying having nicks on the discs

That 'review' is ridiculous. 2001: A Space Odyssey is the only film that holds up in HD? Is he joking?
That's what i was thinking. Also -

"While the newer Star Wars films were ready made for high definition, the older films will obviously suffer a little from the all scrutinizing eye of HD."

How do these idiots get invitations?

That scene you linked was by FAR my favorite scene in the entire prequel trilogy. I wish there had been more scenes like it in terms of actual emotion; so much of the prequel felt hollow to me in terms of emotion (IMO).

What shipping option are you using? I am a Prime member and use the free two day shipping. Every blu I've preorderd has arrived Monday before release day. It probably has to do with your shipping options.

Everyday this release gets closer. September 12 (UK release) will be a day long remembered.

Although without reading the contracts he has with Fox we don't know for sure, I think your statement is absurd based on industry practice.

There's a slight chance he doesn't get much on the first film (although I even doubt that) because he originally gave away all but the merchandising rights in order to get the money to complete, but on the other films he owns a big piece and on the PT, I believe Fox was only the distributor.

The fact is that DVDs/BDs and the like are considered "ancillary rights" and in most cases, the creator gets a far higher percentage than the theatrical royalty, not less, sometimes as much as 50%.

The "materials and packaging" as you put it is a very small portion of the cost. The value is in the intellectual property and for the most part, Lucas owns that.

I think the only things that will be seen at the Comic Cons will be the footage shown to those guys that took pictures of the packaging. Maybe a trailer, but that is about it. I don't think we will know what is on the PT and OT bonus discs until after release day/reviews. Just my opinion though.

I use prime 2-day, and have never received something before 3pm release day.

Like others buying the (in)complete saga, but hate the packaging and art.

I think you are probably right. There may be a slightly more in depth look than the recent "sneak peek", but that will be about it. Hope I am wrong, however.
