Those are two reasons I will only buy the PT.

People complain and complain, but in the end they buy it anyway. At least I'm not an hypocrite.

The sooner it's released the better (or worse for some people). Then it's over and done with (for now)...

That youtube site has the two trailers up. The original teaser trailer is available in 1080p. The deleted scenes trailer is available at 360p at most.

Now, I know it may mean nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if the deleted scenes aren't in HD. Thats how Georgie rolls.

I don't think that it's an unrealistic expectation to expect Lucas to correct obvious technical errors (and NOT artistic decisions, as he has tried to cover them up as) that he has had 7 years to get right, and that never should have happened in the first place.

If anything, I would say that my expectations (and probably those of many fans to tend to be a bit pessimistic towards Lucas's decisions these days) have fairly realistic expectations. As much as many of us want the UOT released at some point, I think at this point most of us just want this release of these versions of the films to be the best that they can reasonably and realistically be. And that can be achieved by simply going back and doing new, proper transfers. I HOPE that is what happened, but all information so far is pointing towards the opposite.

With all due respect (and I'm really not trying to start a 'fight' here, I'm just pointing out a genuine observation of the matter at hand), it honestly seems, for the most part, to be the people who praise Lucas no matter what he does who expect this to be the single greatest Blu-Ray release of all time. It may sell well because it's Star Wars (heck... they could slap a Star Wars label on a piece of dog poo and it would sell), but it won't necessarily mean that from a PQ and AQ standpoint that this release will surpass all or even most other high-profile Blu-Ray releases.

At least those of us expecting the transfers for the OT to not be much improved over the DVD transfers can either have our expectations met, or surpassed if a new transfer is done for this. We aren't putting this release on an unrealistic pedestal like so many others are.

Hopefully that won't be needed. To be honest, if Lucasfilm doesn't fix these obvious mistakes, when would they (as in, future releases)? Last time we could blame time pressure but that isn't a really valid argument this time around.

I'm pretty sure it will be needed and I'm probably going to take the money I have set to reserve this at Movie Stop and move it to X-Men and Scarface when they come out instead of getting this awful money grab release...

I'll wait for the potential release I am looking for or...something else ....it is what it is and it's not like I have ever owned a star wars movie anyways...

There is no excuse for Lucas to not have remastered these films for BD. If I were a fan of these films in this form I would be very upset at an 80.00+ dollar price tag. If he can not even remaster his current visions then there is no way in hades he will ever remaster the UOT for us and to think so is a pipe dream.

Terrible cover art (Anakin with lipstick)
Disc art? On the US release it does not look like it
extras that are meaningless and missing documentaries
missing versions of the films

If he really went that cheap I personally would love to see sales for this set fall way under expectations (and not because they are not the versions I prefer) if for nothing else than to show Lucas that he can’t just slap anything in a box and call it a day. But I am sure the scraps he throws off his dinner table will be lapped up by the fanboys and excuses for him and his cheapness will carry the day. I am also positive that he will not be called out for his cheapness by the several well respected DVD/BD review sites. The theme will be "but at least we have Star Wars on BD"..........

Little bit disappointing if it's really not a new transfer. I was all for a brand new transfer and him fixing mistakes and doing some cgi updating to the OT.

There hasn't been one piece of footage released of the CGI scenes from the original trilogy (or yoda from TPM). It makes me wonder if they're hiding because they've updated it or they're hiding it because they haven't updated it. Mmmm?

Yes there has. We've seen CGI shots from the end of episode 4.

There is no way this does not get advertised in say Best Buy and Target. In the Best Buy ad especially this will almost definitely be the "screenshot" you see on all the tv's advertised in the ad in case you did not realize it was going to be sold that week in store. And of course the front page of the ad. I'm guessing an opening week price around $70 for the set, hopefully less though of course.

To those who said about the Alien set not being advertised, not a shock really. At most I would think just a small picture of it since other than the sci-fi crowd that series at least in my opinion was not that much part of the pop culture comapred to the likes of Star Wars/Harry/LOTR. It was not a movie series that you could take the kids out to like a Star Wars was.

yep. These will be the standard Lucasbot responses to any negative backlash:

- they're his movies and he can do what he wants with them √
- nobody is forcing you to buy them √
- you're just a hater √
- average transfers are better than no transfers at all √

That's the same way I feel..pretty deflating. I REALLY wish the light sabre issues didn't bug me so much, but they do. What seriously would take the cake is more changes/alterations, yet the crap sabres remain. I'm now fully prepared to see matte boxes as well. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised come release day, but I am beginning to seriously doubt that. Hope I'm wrong.
