The footage they used was from the actual Blu-Rays edited to look like you are watching it on a display in the war room on Yavin. But the footage they used was definitely what will be on the Blu-Rays as this was supposed to show off just how good the Blu-Rays look. They wouldn't use the old 2004 transfer if that isn't what is on the discs
Are you certain? I'm not talking about a formal presentation, I'm talking about this "pretend you're on Yavin clip-reel" display.

I don't know...just trying to hold out hope. The year started with Fantasia receiving a lackluster two-disc set, then we had the LOTR Extended Edition debacle, and if you're right, now we get another kick in the babymakers with Lucas using the infamous transfers from 2004 for the new Blu-Rays.

Still holding out hope....

Can anyone make a comparison with the RotJ shot from the Blu-Ray page?

Would watching the U-OT on laserdisc look better than the U-OT DVDs that were bonus discs in the 2006 DVD release? Apparently they were just dumped from laserdisc to DVD.

I own the old laserdiscs, my player is broken. You wouldn't believe the Disney LD collection I have.

Or on second thought, maybe you would.

My favorite Star Wars scenes:

- the entire Battle of Yavin. Everything about it. Possibly the greatest 15 min in movie history.

- this entire scene, everything about it:

That's what I figured; what I meant was, you might be better off just buying the 2006 DVD release instead of a laserdisc player (though I have no idea how much one costs these days, maybe they're super cheap).

Heh heh, it's not so surprising you have a large Disney collection.

$5-10 at a thrift store :P so an LD player would be cheaper

Also does anyone find the Complete Saga slogan ironic... "The Force on Blu-ray, Own Every Moment!"

Yet every release we're getting more and more newly enhanced and reworked stuff, and the old footage is nowhere to be found. Heck, wouldn't all of the shots that have been replaced or "improved upon" qualify as being deleted scenes?

There is a bit of a difference. The "blu-ray" shot seems lighter.

But the blue band down the right side of the image (more noticeable in the newer screenshot) is visible in both shots

On the deleted scenes for the blu-ray box set even if all of the OT deleted scenes are all in SD they will be enjoyable to see along with the PT deleted scenes as well. The PT deleted scenes could be from the ones from the dvd release just upgraded to HD and their could be more PT deleted scenes on the blu-ray box set but only time will tell.

With a bit of fiddling, they're almost identical (the top picture has had it's brightness boosted over the original capture form the DVD). The bottom has had space and the black level darkened.

I'm just playing devil's advocate...I hope Lucas wasn't so cheap as to use old DVD masters for a new Blu-Ray, and I'm going to continue to hope.

I really don't know how else to convince you that the promo footage from comic con was from the new blu-ray transfers. The war room setup was a fun addition for fans to watch clips of the blu-ray while pretending to be in the war room watching the Battle of Yavin.

I certainly encourage you to hold out hope because like I've posted many times the color issues cant truly be discerned until someone has the actual discs. Any secondhand bootleg videos just aren't going to do the discs justice. However, adywan found that glitch in the tie fighters shot consistent with that of the 2004 release.

They've most likely used the same source as the 2004 dvds. It's possible that they could have correct the color issues. But there's no rational reason to believe said issues will be fixed on the blu-ray at this point, given adywan's findings and the pink lightsaber on the official site.

Seems like below is the Saga packaging which will look similar to the Alien Anthology US packaging. Read that many people do not like the Alien Anthology US packaging as the discs could be scratched easily when removing and inserting them them out and into the sleeves. Hope the Saga packaging would not have such issue.

I wonder why the tabs for our thumb aren't at the three o'clock position? Wouldn't that be easier to lift the disc out without rubbing against the cardboard?

I think it's designed so you put your thumb in the spindle hole and grab the edge of the disc with your finger. 1 o'clock position seems the most comfortable to me

Let me get one thing straight before I order... The Prequel Trilogy and Original Trilogy products will have no extra features apart from commentaries?

Yep. Two sets of commentries on each disc (the later ones are from archival interviews).

What a swizz. So essentially, to have have access to the documentaries then you have to pay extra for films you don't want? Pathetic.
