Default New Star Wars Wars Audio Mix Created

Looks like at least one thing will be changed again

Quote:
We’ve had more than an unsubstantiated inkling that a 3D re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy might be coming to theaters in the next couple years. George Lucas talked about 3D conversion in 2008, saying that it worked, but wasn’t practical. Earlier this year Lucas said that Avatar’s tech could be the push LucasFilm needed to do the conversion. Now we know that further work has actually been done to the original films, which hints that the re-release is actually going to happen.

LucasFilm sound engineers Matt Wood and Davie Acord recently took place in the ForceCast podcast, during which they talked about a specific sound effect (Obi Wan’s roar that scares off the Tusken Raiders) and how it has now been altered from past mixes. (Quotes transcribed by Bleeding Cool.)

Quote:
And, to be honest, that sound effect has been changed again. So at some point the audiences will be hearing that scene again with the new sound effect…[We] decided it should sound even more human. And the human it does sound like… yeah, we’ll talk about that another time.
Now, setting aside the changes to the actual audio beyond doing a new mix (to which I say, resoundingly, “Boo!”) that comment about audiences heading that scene again is what holds so much suggestive potential.

The two options would seem to be that the new audio mix is either for a Blu-ray presentation of the films, or for a theatrical re-relase. Or, more likely, for both — certainly it’s difficult to imagine a different audio mix being created for the two possible exhibitions.

We know that LucasFilm has done 2D to 3D conversion tests, because in 2005 early converted footage from Attack of the Clones and Star Wars was shown in 3D at ShoWest. And if both the tech and resulting box-office draw of Avatar is pushing Lucas to make the 3D conversions happen, then what better way to promote the Blu-ray release of the original trilogy than with a theatrical 3D re-release of the films? (If that’s the tactic, then I wouldn’t be surprised to hear LucasFilm is planning a 3D theatrical and Blu-ray release, but that’s pure speculation at this point.)

Nothing could be altered in the prequels that would make them good. Unless ILM digitally removed EVERYONE.

It's better than the "I know better than Lucas and everyone else" fanboy attitude.

As far as all the "bridge the trilogies" nonsense...**** that. Seriously, **** it. If he wanted to make the prequels and OT feel more alike he'd do better to erase the monstrosity that was TPM.

...and here we go with the the "PT sucks" crowd.

As someone who lived, breathed, and obsessed over the OT in 1977->on my opinion is just as valid. So don't talk down to me.

Wow. You do realize that the number of people who get this worked up over these movies would fit inside a garbage smasher on the detention level? At which point it should be turned on.

I could tell something was off within 1 minute of the opening titles. The violins were distorted (being that they were placed front left (correctly) and rear right (incorrectly). And yes, as somebody who's worshipped every second of this score since he was 5 years old - it matters!!!

The EPIV DVD is dreadful and the quicker that whole sound mix blunder is lost the better!!

Here is a discription of what the purist edition is...
The Purist Edition:
To please about ALL Star Wars fans, Adywan went back and took out the most drastic changes of his fanedit and set them back to the original scenes from A NEW HOPE. Some purists were not happy with some of his additions. Of course all these scenes were still color and size-corrected.

Thanks for the info guys.

I just pray that he won't release the movies on BD 3-D only. I'd kill him if he did!

If they are released in 3D only then they would be how George had always intended.

If he want's to release them in 3D only, good for him if that is what he truly want's. Like I said it's his movies. I just won't be buying them and won't be spending the rest of my life crying about it on the Internet

By the time Lucas is done there won't be anything "original" about the original trilogy.

UGH Just watched the whole star wars dvd from 1-6. I was surprised that the original star wars look great on my hdtv for a DVD, but what the hell happened to episode 1-3, it looks crap! The colors are oversaturated and too much contrast. Even its ugly to notice that the actors are working with a green screen in the background with the 120hz turned on. The original star wars set looked great with the 120hz on.

If anything it will be a 2D/3D option, instead of just one or the other

I'm hoping for some sort of announcement at Comic-Con or probably more likely at Celebration V.
