Lucas & co may be watching the pre-order numbers and thinking, "look at the numbers - they're already buying it by the thousands, so why bother invest more in it...? they're gobbling it up anyhow..."
All he needed to do is throw in a few deleted scenes for salivating fans and find some material to fill the discs, keeping the real good stuff for the inevitable 3D release.

I never got the feeling they went "all-out" for this release.

As if this hasn't already been beated to death in the 864 pages of this thread, but...

I have no problem with the fact that a director can make changes after a film is released; I just don't necessarily like all the changes made by Lucas to ANH and ROTJ. My biggest dislikes are character- or story-changing changes. On top of that, I miss the "yub yub" song.

I love Star Wars, but I don't love it so much that I blindly accept everything as being flawless.

The problem I find with Lucas is that he keeps trying to "perfect" these movies, which any normal person would know is impossible.

Ok, thanks! I already found it by now. It looks extraordinary good so I assumed it was a newly enhanced shot.... apparently it isn´t.

I'm sure he knows it's pretty much impossible. He's just trying to satisfy his artistic perfectionist.

I'm going to be buying 2 Complete Saga sets. But I'm not preordering. I'm buying it day and date in store.

Gotta get the Complete Saga of course. Love all of the films, and the bonus discs are well worth it.

Well, then why does he alter things like the color scheme of the movies, with which he was already happy?

You had better get there at least 2hrs before the store opens i have a feeling this will sell out within the first hour of it being available for purchase.

You also should see if the store will be doing some kind of midnight sale cause if that happens there won't be any copies left when they open on the 16th.

Who to say that he was happy with the color schemes? Peter Jackson clearly wasn't. See the extended FotR.

I will be getting the Complete Saga, in store, on release day. I hope they have some cool giveaways to celebrate the release. This is one that is a must purchase for me, regardless of not liking some of the controversial alterations to the OT.

Hey, just curious but why two copies of the complete saga? I imagine for collecting purposes, but why not wait on the second copy until like Black Friday or something when you can score it cheaper? Not picking on you at all, just curious. I assume you are going to do the exact same thing I am when you get the set; watch the Phantom Menace?

I haven't ordered any of them yet. Frankly, the prequels didn't appeal to me all that much in the first place. I did not go see them in the theater and watched them for the first time when they were released on DVD.

I was a huge fan of the original Star Wars trio back in the day. I remember driving home (I was 21) from my first showing of Star Wars (on opening day) and feeling so exhilarated by the whole experience. I talked about the movie for days, convincing my friends to go see it. It was the start of a phenomenon.

Later, when VCRs started becoming all the rage, I remember getting my hands on a very very ugly pirated VHS copy of Star Wars. It was incredibly exciting to own this historic film, even before it was actually released on VHS. I must have watched that horrible pirated copy at least 50 times.

Then I eventually owned a couple different versions on Laserdisc, including the Ultimate Collection. I watched those to death too.

By the time the movies came to DVD, I must have seen each of the original 3 at least 100 times. Since purchasing the DVDs, I've watched each one only once. They are the most unused movies in my entire collection. Why? Because the last time I watched them on DVD I found them to be too boring. Far too many more exciting space/sci-fi movies have come along since Star Wars.

So, it's been 7 years since I've watched any of the Star Wars movies. You'd think I'd be primed for a viewing. But I just don't feel any excitement for the Blu-ray releases in the same way I was excited for, say, Back to the Future. I'd much rather be looking forward to the Indiana Jones Trilogy instead of Star Wars.

Still, it is likely that I'll end up buying the Star Wars set. They are certainly a part of motion picture history. They are likely to look pretty darn good on Blu-ray. But I'm far from being excited about their pending release. I'll wait to see what kind of deals/pricing are available the week before release to decide if I'll pull the trigger in September, or later.

Mark

Pretty consistent and I stand by it. Of course you have to take in consideration that in this thread mods have been weeding, cutting, re-locating posts all of the time. Less now since many bans are seemingly still in place.

Well, one is for my Brother. His Birthday is in September.

And yeah, Phantom Menace will be watched first. It's my favorite film in the Saga after all.

Thanks for the laugh.

So how does that explain the complete 'botch job' for the 2004 DVDs?

- Crushed blacks
- Color saturation problems
- F-ed up soundtrack

And so far all signs are pointing to the same transfer for these upcoming BDs.

It makes you wonder if even the sound gets corrected for them. However if it does not, then I guess that just means that we are all Lucas bashers and he's an arteest perfecting his craft.
