I haven't decided on individual trilogy releases or whole saga. I like the individual trilogies being in a regular case and I like the artwork.

My discs are also perfectly fine. Cardboard can not scratch a blu-ray. To anyone who doesn't want the US packagkng order it from the UK. That's all you can do.

My issue with the SW set is more so in regards to the artwork than the type of packaging, though I'm still not thrilled about it.

The one thing I hate about the UK set is the BBFC ratings. I wish they would stick them on the crappy bit of paper that is always stuck to box sets rarther than on the actual packaging.

They do it with SteelBooks so why not every other release?

People need something to discuss and complain about in anticipation of a release date that is still weeks away.

Once it comes out everybody will love the design, artwork, and packaging.

The problem is that George Lucas has, for some odd reason, have a for oil-based artwork for the Star Wars movie releases. I hate these covers and I much prefer "photo-based" covers. It's like you're buying a damned cartoon release. I guess Lucas is trying to tell us that he considers the Star Wars movies to be cartoony. It's not like he's ever been serious about these releases. Almost like one big joke.

That oil based artwork used to be the standard for all films until bad photshop became the norm. Your not a fan of Drew Struzans artwork?! You prefer photoshoped images to actual hand drawn posters? Your honestly the first person I've ever crossed that didn't like drew struzan's posters for the movie. The cover used for the cover isn't drew struzan's work, but I still prefer it to photoshop. Especially like what we got with the previous dvd releases. Star wars has always had bad photoshoped covers which makes no sense when they had beautiful theatrical posters.

Yeah. No kidding. First time I have ever seen someone complain about painted artwork over photoshop floating heads.

FAO nmycon and Dynamo of Eternia

Many thanks for your detailed responses. tbf all I really care about from these releases are a significant step up in picture clarity, a fabulous HD soundtrack for my new home theatre and the cool extras. For that I am happy to keep my preorder in place for the whole saga (I've even spent a small fortune getting it couriered over from the USA to here to our new home in Singapore rather than waiting for it).

Pink lightsabres, a bit of strange colour timing and a cyan Hoth I can live with - and if I hear about Greedo on here one more time it will be ME who shoots first hehehe

Many thanks again for giving me a bit more peace of mind.

My complaint isn't about the covers but rather that they are horrid. They could have gotten someone decent to do this artwork. Struzan just isn't a very good artist. He's better just sticking with comic book art ... sheesh.

Struzan not a good artist? Lol, you must be joking. You do realize he has drawn 150 posters. Some of the movoes he has worked on: Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Back to the Future. Also, he has done album art for Tony Orlando and Dawn, The Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Roy Orbison, Black Sabbath, Glenn Miller, Iron Butterfly, Bach, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Liberace. He illustrated the album cover artwork for Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare, which Rolling Stone would go on to vote one of the Top 100 Album Covers Of All Time. But yeah that's the career of a man who isn't a very good artist.

Idk if you know this, but Struzan is retired and hasn't done a poster since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which he came out of retirement to do. I am not sure which dvd covers you are talking about, but his work hasn't been used on a star wars cover since VHS days.

About 5 to 6 times the resolution once you include all the factors. 1920 is divisible by 720 2.66 times and 1080 is divisible by 480 2.25 times, which is 4.91. You also have to take transfers into consideration as in whether they are 16, 35, 65, or 70mm and if they have been restored and/or remastered recently.

I'm fine with it as well. I could care less about the type of packaging and the extras. The ONLY thing I'm concerned/care about right now in regards to this release is the A/V quality.

I usually don't care about extras, but with Star Wars, I am really looking forward to them. I really don't care one way or the other about the packaging or artwork though.

Actually, he just popped out again to do both a Mondo Frankenstein poster and a Cowboys and Aliens poster that might've been a Comic-Con exclusive of some sort.

http://allenpinney.blogspot.com/2011...hollywood.html -- potential Cowboys & Aliens spoiler (Struzan painted the alien).

SD= 345600 pixels

HD= 2073600 pixels.

the number is exactly six, as published on promotional media all of the place stating "Blu Ray has 5 to 6 times the resolution of DVD" it is 720p that is 2.66 times SD res.

yeah it is late I can't sleep and this thread is getting to civil someone had to introduce some chaos.

I've meet Struzan, nice guy...but the guy is mathematical about his art. He obviously works from pictures...straight out methodic...I have never seen him draw or paint without looking at a picture or image from the movie.

I draw and paint from my imagination. Kinda like expressionism...you draw what your mind see's. I refuse to paint from pictures or on a computer. Whenever I paint I always start with a blank canvas and use no references at all.

Struzan is a fraud. He's a commercial artist with no talent. Anyone can just replicate a picture with oils...takes forever however.
