![]() Some people may view Christensen in Return of the Jedi to be a "scene of graphic horror" ![]() Then again, something which would have received a higher rating in the 70's and 80's due to the violence etc might now be reclassified and listed as modified because its classification has changed. Take The Terminator for example. Here in Australia it's been: 1985 theatrical: R (restricted to 18+) 1985 home video: M (mature - parental discretion for under 15's) 2000 home video: M (mature - parental discretion for under 15's) 2007 home video: MA (restricted to 15+) So just because one film shows as "modified" doesn't mean the content is. It can either indicate changes to content or changes to how the classification board has viewed the material's impact. At the same time "original" could mean that they've determined the original classification to still stand and that could be because the content is unchanged or the changes do not affect the rating or warnings. It's all a little complex, but suffice to say all of the OT have been noted as modified which means changes to the films' ratings (they haven't though), changes to the warnings associated to the rating (possible) or changes to the assessable content itself. Ok, I thought they didn't have PAL speedup anymore over there with Blu Ray. I guess they still do but the problem is eliminated when played on a US player.

Funnily once in a while back then in the ol' DVD times they adjusted the tone pitch. When the images (and thus the sound also) are played 4% to fast the sound is to sharp/high. So now when a BD get's released they sometimes used the "adjusted" sound track and cause everything is played 4% slower than PAL (the "correct" speed) the sound track is now to flat/low. That's exactly what happened eith the German "Lord of the Rings" Blu-Rays. They are correcting this issue this time and re-release in early August but with many other BDs like "Fargo", "Firefly", "Star Trek" (TOS) and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" the dubbing folks just have to live with this unnecessary flaw. |

<awesome comment>
Speculation aside... rumors aside... So what DO we know? That Star Wars is being released on Blu-freaking-Ray! So WOOT! This was the movie i've been dying to see in 1080 since bluray players were released to the public! ![]() I would be perfectly happy with Lucas only releasing the SE's now on Blu, and having a completely different release one or two years down the road with the Theatrical Editions. (LIKE HE DID WITH THE DVD RELEASES). Only time will tell though if these are a supreme processing of the editions. So let's talk about something different now, please!? <question> which episode have you seen the most? I've seen ROTJ at least twice as much as any other episode. </question> </awesome comment> |

Yup, I had *completely* forgotten about it, but I went to go see that in IMAX at the MoS in Boston. I can remember hunting around the gift shop after for a VHS copy and then being told that they didn't release video.

If the German running time discussed in my post is accurate, then it would be the correct running time with those scenes included (136 minutes). I know that the Coruscant Taxi scene was included in the HD version shown on TV.

I never understood why these extended scenes were added to the TPM DVD. They break up the pacing in a negative way IMHO. They should have been included as deleted scenes.

I agree. I noticed all the OT films are modified. Hopefully these "additional edits" are actually removing things - my dream edits would be:
1) Removing scene where Han steps on Jaba's tail. 2) Revert to Han shoots first although lets just pretend I didn't say that so chaos does not ensue. 3) Take out the horrible added dialogue between Vader/Emperor ("I have no doubt that the young rebel....blah blah....offspring of Anakin Skywalker" - horrible) 4) At least at the end of RotJ put a friendlier looking Hayden Christensen ghost with no devilish smirk. Although we may be more likely to see: 1) Extended scene where Han not only steps on Jaba's tail but then ties the tail to a speeder and goes for a ride, "comically" dragging Jaba behind him. 2) Han not only doesn't shoot first but doesn't shoot at all - the blast from Greedo ricochets off the wall and hits himself. Han then calls for medical attention. He apologizes for the mess, genuinely embarrassed about the state they have left the table in with cups everywhere. 3) The dialogue between Vader/Emperor is extended to include political discussions. 4) Evan McGregor's ghost replaces Alec Guinness at end of RotJ. Alec Guinness would still be used for the ghost in earlier scenes of RotJ. Man, George could go any direction with these upcoming blu rays. Last edited by whaleman; 07-28-2011 at 03:38 PM. |
