It would be one thing if we were on a "film appreciators" forum, then it would make sense for people to simply only care about the movie and the story and not the presentation, but we are on a Blu-ray forum. Just does not compute.
I very much hope and care that the blu-rays are very very good quality. But I reserve my judgment until they are released. Can't wait for that!

I remember the endless debates about Darth Sidious' identity when The Phantom Menace came out. There was a group a fans absolutely convinced Palpatine and Sidious were two different characters or that Palpatine was a clone of Sidious. Some even swore it was a different actor playing Sidious since Ian McDiarmid wasn't credited in the role. I remember when a picture turned up of an actor who kind of looked like McDiarmid in the classic Sith robe, they went absolutely nuts with "proof."

I always thought it was pretty obvious Palpatine and Sidious were one and the same, but it was entertaining reading the elaborate theories nonetheless. Good times. lol

Yeah, there was never any question in my mind about it. I'm also pretty sure that I had heard the name "Palpatine" in reference to the Emperor sometime before the prequels ever came out. Maybe it's my memory playing tricks on me, but I didn't think that the name was made up just for the PT.

And if nothing else, I think the part at the end of Episode I should have been more than obvious when Palpatine looks down at Anakin and says that he will watch over his career with great interest. Any questioning that existing prior to that should have been tossed right out the window at that point.

The Emperor's name being Palpatine goes back at least as far as the ROTJ novelization.

I agree completely. Not to mention that at Qui Gon's funeral, after Mace Windu asked the question, "But which was destroyed? The master or the apprentice?" the camera panned right over to Palpatine as ominous music played.

Here is the set art I am using (3-3 disk cases), assuming I decide the set is worthy of purchase...

I was one of those who thought that Palpatine and Sidious were different people.
But i kept going back and forth saying that George wouldn't do something so obvious that they were the same, and then i'd be like, well, it's George, it'll be obvious that they are the same, but in the months leading up to RotS, i was absolutely convinced that they were different people, mostly cause of the end scene of AotC with Sidious and Palpatine in different areas at the same time. I worked at a Wal*Mart and was putting stuff back on the shelves and saw a Palpatine/Sidious transformation toy... i was pissed....

1 - A New Hope (From the Further Adventures of Luke Skywalker) the prologue says Palpatine becomes Emperor.
1b - As with most of the books, with George seeming to make them so that they do not fully integrate with the movies, i was sure that this would be changed so that it would not be Palpatine.

From Wikipedia.

"Star Wars Expanded Universe literature elaborates on Palpatine's role in Star Wars fiction outside of the films. The first appearance of Palpatine in Star Wars literature was in Alan Dean Foster's (writing as George Lucas)novelization of the script of A New Hope, published as Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (1976). Foster characterizes Palpatine as a cunning Senator who "caused himself" to be elected president of the Republic, and then declared himself Emperor and isolated himself from his subjects, eventually becoming a pawn of his advisors."

Has anyone got the book to check?

Update: Kinetic_Blue confirmed it.

Hahaha, that's crazy. I didn't know there was ever any debate about it. The second I saw Ian McDiarmid in Phantom Menace I was like THE EMPEROR! Other people in the theatres were whispering the same thing to their buddies as well.

This is one thing that everyone should be upset about to some extent or another. Even if it won't stop you from buying the set (which is fine), it should at least prompt a demand for a recall and proper transfer (like what happened with Gladiator on Blu-Ray). It's okay to be upset with Lucas over a bad transfer, even if you otherwise love the PT, updated OT, and the Saga as a whole. It doesn't mean you aren't a fan, it just means that you want the best presentation possible for the material that you are buying. There is nothing wrong with that. Wake up and stop acting like any and all complaints against Lucas are ridiculous, unfounded, and shouldn't exist. Some complaints are worth while and worth fighting for. I think everyone here wants Star Wars on Blu-Ray to be all that it can be. Asking for that... or even demanding that isn't out of line. It's actually very reasonable to want that of one of the biggest movie releases ever on the highest quality video format currently available.
This. Exactly my thoughts. But, on the next page, you have an example of people you are talking about:

Just sad. Nothing to add. Everyone who even expect a little quality, is whiner, hater (Lucas raped my childhood) and so on. With SW, you have no right to critisize anything, otherwise you are hater and so on. Just pathetic.

As I said before, I don't know what some people are doing here. If you don't care about quality, buy DVDs.

The Look of it is nice but the titles would drive me crazy! I wouldn't buy a set where the trilogies are called "trilogy" and "prequel trilogy"... I would just put the Episode numbers on the sides and put Episodes 1-3 at first place...

I don't really know what's so bad about the Slip-Cases either... I've just bought "Frasier - the Complete Series" on DVD and i find the Slip-Cases very elegant and easy to handle!

Even though everything looked great so far and people at Comic-Con were raving about how good the movies looked everybody is demanding a new transfer!? I don't get that at all... Let's wait and see. All 6 movies will look marvellous!

Nice Work Coov! Much better than that crappy studio art! You know the "Pastel" colors with Anakin sporting red lips. They could not even get Lukes boots right on the cover, I still can't believe that artwork was approved by Lucas.

They should have gone with something like this: This is what I would use If I were getting the set one case to hold them all (the films) and then you could have another case just like this with a different colored light saber on the spine for the bonus discs (maybe change the back up a little on the bonus one)

You taking off from work on the 16th? You know what, Lucas should just help us out with our debt and we can honor the release of the BDs by announcing the 16th as a Federal Holiday and just call it day. What do you think?

We shouldn't grumble about the packaging to much though I think the VHS Trilogy in the UK had the honour of been one of the only sets released in a cardboard case (they were way more common in the US) versus the plastic cases we usually got (like Indiana Jones), we even had to pay a premium for widescreen versions (glad they didn't continue that trend).

I think Devils Advocate even had a disclaimer on the box of the widescreen VHS telling consumers that they weren't been robbed of picture because of the black bars on the screen.

The funny thing is, why people like you even buy BDs, when you can stick with your DVDs and be happy? Some people just can't enjoy the movies...

Serious now, maybe it's time for you to do some research, and realize that were are not "*****ing" (well, except for some idiotic haters, but there are minority), but we are expecting even little quality for our money? You know, the reason why BD was invented.
