They've never acknowledged alterations before the release, with the exception of the "Special Edition" in 1997. I doubt they will say anything and that's probably smart because even the best changes will be swarmed with negativity.

Or non changes.....goes both ways.

I just wonder how much negativty this release would have got had it included: The UOT and the 97 SE as well as his newer cut all in pristine new remasters. Extras that included all the important docu's from the past 30+ years, Empire of Dreams (long version) etc, several sound options including an isolated score. Maybe slideshows with all of the artwork from the greatest Star Wars artist of all time Ralph McQuarrie. I think that would have went over pretty well don't you? I think just about every Star Wars fan would have been equally happy and we all would have paid 100+ dollars for the set with smiles on our faces while dancing a jig......

True. It's probably best this way.

I really hope they have gone all the way with this release.

So far, I am only looking forward to seeing and hearing the PT on BD, as the others appear to be sourced from the 2004 transfers, but I am trying to be cautiously optimistic.

Perhaps they weren't showing actual BD footage, but older HD footage?

We'll find out soon enough....well, not really, but soon.

Question to Cowboy: Are you even going to buy any of the upcoming SW disc set?

I am asking, because the amount of complaining you do really makes me wonder....

I am holding out hope that the OT set is the 97 SE (Which I do not prefer) but is at least not tied to the PT in anyway. If Hayden Christensen, stupid Jar Jar Binks and that terible Kiwi voice he slapped on Boba Fett are gone then yes I will buy the OT set. Although mastered from a flawed 8 year old source does not sound inviting. So I guess I am in a wait and see mode.

Why should they use the older version with Hayden Christensen missing and the Monkey-Emperor instead of Ian McDiarmid? That would be ludicrous...

You do know that was a woman playing the "Monkey-Emperor" right? My point is that when he changed it to Ian McDiarmid in 2004 it made it so much better.

Absolutely no way in hell the '97 SE's will be used.

They'd essentially be going out oh their way to release a version of the trilogy in HD that satisfies nobody. Even with this guy it's not what he actually wants, it's just the lesser of two evils.

I'll be shocked if there aren't changes to the movies and I think at the very least CGI TPM Yoda is almost a given but even if no changes are made the 2004 editions are obviously what LFL falls back on.

I liked the SE's in '97 but they're in hindsight they're essentially outdated and unlike the OOT they don't really have the benefit of true historical significance.

It did in a sense make it better, but the problem with the scene is that we're being shown the Prequel Trilogy's version of the Emperor, which doesn't match the look of the Original Trilogy's version, which appears in the next film ROTJ, at all. George should've at least tried to get the team to make them look similar. Prequel Palpatine has always looked like plastic to me, and not as grizzly.

It will surely be a 2011 version, not any particular one that has rollbacks in terms of visual effects. While Han shooting first works way better in the 2004 version versus the 1997 version, I would expect a third take on that scene before a rollback to the 1977 version. That's probably the only scene I wish was put back into its original version because the results haven't been stellar, they merely became adequate with the 2004 version.

Same with Jabba, he's much better in the 2004 version but there is no reason to put it back to the 1997 version at all. The 1997 version compared to the 2004 version is really night and day.

As far as changes in The Empire Strikes Back go, I can't even begin to have fun with a game of Devil's Advocate to figure out why putting the original take of the emperor back in would make more sense than what was there in 1980 as it contradicts the rest of the saga.

But small things have been taken out that were put in before, like Luke's scream from the 1997 version. However, that is a really quick fix. I think its fair to say stuff that actually required new filming will never be taken out.

I do agree that Dooku was more powerful though as he was once a Jedi Knight and therefore had a broader knowledge of the force.

Remember skill wise Maul beat both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, he let his guard down thatst it (also kind of a flaw as there is no way hed just watch Obi-Wan flip over him whilst having ample time to kill Obi-Wan).

Also I always thought Maul was more like a student to Sidious while Dooku was really what Vader is in the OT, so it is unfair to compare them anyhow. I am just tired of Maul getting crapped on around here when he was powerful enough to defeat both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in battle. All in all he is a character that was very cool and ultimately very scary. To me was the epitome of what Sith was to the Jedi at the time of TPM, before they revealed themselves after 1000's of years.
Lord Maul's problem was he was to over confident. He should of been more aware of his surrondings. If a force user is alive and a lightsaber is nearby you need to be a little more careful than he was after he force pushed him over the edge, but he was still dangling.

I'm a little bummed I won't be able to partake in the extras disks, being as I will only be buying part 4-6. I was hoping the separate trilogies would each get a single bonus disk with the full saga getting an additional exclusive one of it's own, but I don't mind all that much. I've seen so many SW makings of and specials over the years that I've almost had my fill of them. Still, I would have loved to have had access to a collection of stills and original artwork in HD. I love stuff like that.

Maybe if the UOT ever sees the light of day...

The sat box is Component because Dish sucks and I never saw a difference using the HDMI and felt the port was better used on my WDTV player instead.

Whoa! Chip75 and I haven't been ignoring ya at all, and I would say we are quite friendly! But I totally think you will get a LOT more advice from the projector thread in the other part of the forum.

I don't have my laserdisc player hooked up to my system/projector. Hell, I sold most of my LDs except for my Definitive (at the time..lol) Star Wars boxed set. As far as DVDs go, an upconverting player hooked up via HDMI does the job with some tweaking. I was more or less referring to standard def TV. But really get over to that other forum, you'll get a lot more help there. Guys here just want to ***** about the sanity of George Lucas adding farting robots into ANH or what not. Good luck dude!

It's too bad that one of the greatest reveals in cinema history will never be known to them. They'll get the watered down version of the whole thing.

Everyone knows what "I am your father" means and there is no surprise to be saved as long as Star Wars is in the public consciousness. The reveal ceased to be effective about a month after Empire came out.

I am kinda in the same boat as you Cowboy. (sitting on the fence) However if they include a card-less 'Musical Isolated Soundtrack Score'...I will definitely be getting it regardless of PQ foul ups which are sure to happen.

And don't forget that the 97 SE had an audio botch job to go along with it, as they somehow forgot to include some of the original sound effects in that one too. (Tie-Fighters that sound like German Stukas and blaster rifles that sound like Dirty Harry's magnum hand gun )

So that makes what now...three times in a row where these movies had sloppy releases. And that's why I have little faith that these BDs will have corrected audio/visual scenes.

He just doesn't seem to care anymore.

Lucas? He's not an expert on that. That's Burtt but from what I understand, Matthew Wood is the one overseeing this audio release as Burtt has left Lucasfilm.
