Does anyone else feel like the Star Wars universe is more technologically advanced in the prequels? It's always bothered me... I'm not talking about the graphics. The tech and gadgets themselves are more advanced. Bah. It's late.
Under democracy, art flourishes. Under Imperialism, things become very streamlined and design shifts as the means of production change. That's why X-Wings looked like pieced together tools and the Naboo Starfighter looks like a piece of art. In The Clone Wars, the first clone armor set is really strong. By Revenge of the Sith's phase II armor, it isn't as good and one character named Rex is reluctant to make the change. Under these two drastically different political climates, values change. Shields are important when you value life but become totally unimportant when you do not value life and so on.

All signs point that Phantom Menace did indeed receive a new transfer. Even the teaser trailer looks to be showing off the new and improved TPM. I think what has people concerned is that while it is obvious TPM has been remastered, all the footage and screencaps of the OT look like the 04 transfers but with a slight DECREASE in gamma (which would artificially "fix" things like black crush without going to the root of the problem). If Lucasfilm hadn't set a precedent releasing a subpar product back in 2004, people wouldn't be as anxious as they are now, especially with no solid evidence that the problems of the previous release have been fixed.

And now Matthew has again done a new mix for Ep4, we can only hope that he has learned a little more about how to mix a film.
I thought it was Tom Myers (ROTS) who did the new mix for the 2004 Dvd's, with Wood and Burtt handling the editing duties.

Its important to remember the 2004 release was rushed because piracy was out of control and just totally boomed around 2003 on eBay and through second hand shops.

I saw the opening to Revenge of the Sith and the clarity was motion looked beyond anything I've seen since the theatrical run.

The opening of A New Hope looked like a brand new movie. I the scene where Luke discovers Leia's hologram message also looked like it was from a new movie. All I can tell you is it looked flawless and impressive.

This is good news, thanks for sharing. That is how watching the OT blu-rays should hopefully feel - like a new movie. I'm hoping Lucas and co. have remixed the audio, modified some of the old effects, and given the movies a sharper look (that is, to appear they've been shot in HD cameras).

As for the prequels, I think that when the effects of the OT are fixed and changed enough, any concern about the two trilogies being disjointed will go away. No matter what order in which you watch the films, it'll feel like one cohesive universe! LOL.

No problem, dude. The audio was the one thing I could not tell you a thing about. The audio was barely on, it would have been 2 channel, and the floor was loud at Comic Con.

I don't want to overstate this, so please don't take this too literally because I don't feel I saw enough, but the opening battle of Revenge of the Sith and the duel at the end looked so good in terms of quality, it looked better than the other clips. The rest looked rather cohesive until Revenge of the Sith popped up. The most improved for my eyes for Return of the Jedi though.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Can wait to see some footage myself... I think we are expecting just the best from Lucasfilm.

Still no more information about the first two extra discs and the 'and much more' description has gone, we can assume 'the collections' whic were sent to the German ratings board are the cast and crew interviews.

It's the first two bonus discs they seem a bit light on extras. I kind of got the impression when the extras were announced that they were holding back something special on these discs with the 'much more' tag (which is absent from the back of the cover).

Boba Fett: First Look is possible included in the character/costume design featurettes.

.
If the ipad early access app is anything to go by, the vast majority of extras will be on discs 1 & 2. If you dont have access to an ipad, check it out on youtube

Love seeing the price of the OT set go down. Hopefully it'll only be around $30 on release day. If it's already down to $40, that may not be outside the realm of possibility. So glad I don't care about the PT or any of the extras discs.

As much as I love your excellent widsom on Roman art (which appears to conveniently exclude architecture and technology), it has no place in this thread about the SW BDs.

It boggles my mind that people can't seem to grasp this. Apparently some of them even have 3-year art degrees.

Still nothing showing up on the Blu Ray ratings on the BBFC. Keen to see if we are getting the uncut ATOC and what if any changes have been made.
I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure AotC will be uncut.

Here are some exclusive action figure 4-packs for each of the 6 BDs, which also come with a small poster each.

I am enjoying re-living my youth through my children.
