I made a fun video on YouTube showing the different versions/releases of Star Wars I own, I look forward to adding the Blu-Ray to my collection! The video is about 30 min (in all 3 parts) and

The LaserDisc releases are my favorite, the picture quality is pretty great and the little bonuses & extra features on the Definitive collection are pretty awesome.

From memory I have the following...
Original Trilogy (Unaltered):
- CBS/FOX Original Trilogy Release on VHS
- A New Hope & The Empire Strikes on Capacitance Electronic Disc (CED)
- The Empire Strikes Back (1989 LaserDisc Release)
- Widescreen VHS Box Set with holographic cover in Blue Box (& Making Of)
- THX Widescreen VHS Box Set (Faces, long box set)
- Widescreen LaserDisc Definitive Collection (CAV) with hardcover book
- DVD release (2006) with originals as "bonus discs"

Special Edition:
- Special Edition Widescreen VHS Box Set (1st release)
- Special Limited Collector's Edition VHS Box Set (w/ Paperweight, mini-posters, art book, film strip and making of SE trilogy VHS tape)
- Special Edition Widesccreen LaserDisc Box Set
- Year 2000 SE Trilogy on Video CD by Fox Video (Malaysia video release) w/ Episode II preview
- 2004 DVD Release - Widescreen Box Set (Silver & Black box)

Ep I-III + Misc.
- Episode I - Widescreen Collector's Box Set VHS with art book & film strip
- Episode I double-disc DVD release
- Episode II double-disc DVD release
- Episode III double-disc DVD release
- The Story of Star Wars (Walmart Extra for Ep. III DVD)
- From Star Wars To Jedi (VHS)
- From Star Wars To Jedi (Older version, VHS, same content)
- Making of the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition (from limited SE VHS Set)
- Star Wars: A New Hope: Making of: As told by C-3PO and R2-D2/SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back (1980 double-film LaserDisc release) [This is on the Blu-Ray plus the Jedi special, woot! ]

The only other releases I want are: the Japanese 2000 LaserDisc release of the special edition, and the US 2000 VHS box set release. Both have a special 11-minute making of & preview of Episode II, and their cover(s) and box art are very awesome.

And yes, I need to find out where to put the Blu-rays on my very cluttered and full shelf! I like to collect the other versions, but I don't go crazy, I haven't spent a lot on my collection, maybe at most $20 for a set. But I won't be getting rid of them, especially since the Blu-Ray is missing some of the bonus material (but is thankfully adding some!)

Here's my collection. (Sorry, no picture yet) I'm jealous

But I do have the 2000 set you're looking for

I agree the box and slipcover is awesome!

EDIT:

Hey! I posted a comment on that video a few weeks ago! Fancy seeing you on the forums

I have a golden VHS Star Wars Box, many years old, which i gave my sister two years ago. I have asked her about the box yesterday, im glad she hasn't throw it away. It will stand next to my blu-rays soon.

I was only five years old when episode 1 was coming to the cinemas. With six years i got the VHS. I love the prequell trilogy too. Whatever, the original trilogy is better anyway.

What are the actual odds that they'll fix Vader's pink lightsaber? The sabers used to look perfect and now they're all messed up I truly hope they fix this glaring problem for this set, otherwise I'll be sorely disappointed.

Thank you nmycon and LimeiBook86 for taken the time to make the videos and pictures.

One slight error of course LimeiBook86 is that the individual trilogies do not have any bonus discs on Blu-ray it's the complete set which has the three bonus discs.

Although it's still baffling why Lucasfilm choose to do this, it may make sense from a business side of things but for customers who may be only to afford one set at a time it's a disappointment to miss out on special features.

LOL, for a split second I thought Big Brother was truly watching but the wording was a little off for an official site announcement. Well done though, very funny!

If you go back to the start of the thread and read what people were saying about pricing, it's funny to see whose predictions were right on the money and which ones were way off.

However, I got rid of all of the above except the laserdisc set in prep for the blu rays.
Yeah! Most people have long got rid of most of this stuff. I just like collecting Star Wars stuff (toys, books.....) I figured I would keep those as well to had to my collection, make's for a nice wall

In response to the question a few pages back:

1st Time - 2004 DVD release (still have the Bonus Features disc for the 'Empire of Dreams' documentary - the DVDs with the movies were sold when 2006 was announced)

2nd Time - 2006 DVD release (for the SE's and Theatrical cuts).

Not buying this Blu-ray set. I was toying with the idea but since I have yet to watch the DVDs that I got in 2006 why bother.

I bought the 3 prequels as they were released. I actually think "Revenge of the Sith" is a better movie than "Return of the Jedi"

LOL - good call. Unfortunately we're just a small, obviously nerdy subset of the population that will be buying these no matter what. We have way too much time on our hands.

I'm curious as to the content of Ken's initial email to LucasFilm. Ken, what did you write originally?

I believed you before. So it seems they probably did indeed use the 2004 masters (which is fine for me) but have updated some of the effects. If all they do is update Luke's lighstaber in the falcon and in ROTJ, I will be happy enough.

they actually still call them the "special editions"? i thought that would have been outlawed by now

in the end, it is all going to be a big joke: the week before the release, there will be this news flash of a special announcement and to check out the website the night before the release. when you go to the web site, it will be Ben Kenobi doing the jedi mind trick wiping your memory of Star Wars and there will be no bluray release. Lucas will then "release" these new movies in 3D and they will become the biggest movies of all time. it is the only way to bring balance to the force.

Them not releasing the blu-rays? I highly doubt that. Jedi mind tricks don't work on me.
