I don't have that many Universal titles on Blu, but the ones I do have ("Back to the Future", "Bourne" trilogy, "Incredible Hulk", "The Mummy") look and sound very good.

That last yoda clip was from the rots dvd feature.

I think there are 2 clips of cg yoda floating around online. The one from the rots dvd and a brief clip from the music tour.

Go figure.

Well, at least it's something. The question is - who was responsible for the mixes this time around, and.....was Ben Burtt locked out of Skywalker Sound and told to stay put at Pixar until the mixes were complete?

Ben Burtt is a good sound designer and he is working a pixar now he from interviews I've heard he does show up at skywaker sound from time to time. The guys that are the main sound designers at skywalker sound are Matthew Wood and David Acord they also do the sound design for the clone wars tv show on cartoon network. All of the sound designers are very talented but the problems of the 2004 OT dvd mix are many and hopefully they heard the fan complaint's about the mixes and have addressed those issues.

Burtt is the god of sound design, but, as everyone knows, he has a big ego and at times, it causes problems, especially when it came to the music tracks. Every time the films have been remixed, it has always been someone different. I wonder who got the calling this time.

I think Burtt is still with Skywalker, just on a film to film basis. He left SS after the release of ROTS, but has worked on "Munich", "Wall-E", "Indy 4", "Star Trek" and "Super 8". Rydstrom was also a sound designer on "Super 8".

Anybody else notice how good the directional panning is in the X-Wing foil-opening sound from one fighter to another. And that's just from a lowly youtube file being played on computer speakers. I for one, think it sounds much better.

I was looking forward to seeing the PT, I haven't seen them for many years and remember them being an ok trilogy. So I decided to look for some reviews on youtube and came across RedLetterMedia reviews of the PT.....

....Now I can completely understand why there is so much hate for the PT like I said I enjoyed the PT but after having every single plot hole and bad movie making technique pointed out to me, I was shocked that I'd never realised how badley it was made.

I'm still gunna watch them for sure but I think everyone should watch the reviews. Just to understand that the argument against the PT is justified and not just fanboys or lucas haters looking for something to complain about.

Of course, with regard to that whole X-Wing CGI scene, I personally have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it as I'm sure many others do, but I tollerate it. I think the whole shot from the beginning, where you seen the X-Wings in from of the two planets is one sexy shot that looks great and fits. On the other hand, I also think that CGI tends to look too "clean" and "sterile" in a lot of films and that models, for the most part still look better. I don't think the CGI industry has got it down yet. They've made incredible strides, but there's something organic about a model that CGI just has not been able to match. The planets in the shot look great and I think CGI does wonders for planets, but not so much on the ships themselves. But again, the shot still looks so good that I love it still. The added CGI Jabba the Hut scene with Han they did is pathetic though and needs to go or made better with updated CGI.

Yeah after seeing that I can't ever watch the prequels again, It's such a brutal dissection.

Not that I liked the PT to begin with but I will never see them the same way. I mean I went into them wanting to like them so you tend to give them the benefit of the doubt

Agree, an HDTV broadcast is not even close to Blu-ray. I work for a major cable company and I can tell you that the bandwidth allocated to HD channels is not enough to match Blu-ray and going through everything in the plant then finally to the house......forget it. Sure it's nice to a much improved PQ and ever expanding HD channel lineup over the SD counterparts, but it's not Blu-ray quality.

here is a question for you-

if something is natively broadcast in HD- does it take more effort/cost to down convert it to SD then it would just to broadcast in HD??

its certainly an extra step- It just seems funny to me that we are charged extra for HD- HD really isn't even HD anymore - HD is really the SD for HD tvs- SD almost shouldn't even exist anymore unless its being unconverted on a HD station (sorry for end rant there)
