Ah, Natalie. That image was captured in the summer of 2000. Amazing that she still looks like that.

I agree-

Other then the obvious improvement in video and audio quality- blu-ray hasn't upped the bar often enough-

sure there are some high profile titles that take advantage of the format but so many times the menus are inferior to DVD menus in DVD's heyday- The basic architecture of DVD may have had it's limits but studios/ producers would do pretty interesting things within those limits in the early to mid 00's-

Somewhere around 04 to 06 was when the single and separate 2 disc releases started to come out and DVDs dropped in quality- and really aside from bigger budget fare hasn't been brought back up to that quality standard.

You are quite right. The '04 special edition boxset had some of the best menus, as did the PT dvd's. A different planet each time you put the disc in. They were, and still are unsurpassed on DVD. Let's hope the same effort and wizardry has been used on the blu-ray, but hard to see it based on current blockbusters on the format. Look at menus for the likes of back to the future/superman/batman etc, poor, poor, poor and mainly static menus.

I've pre-ordered the whole 6 film BD set. But the closer it gets to release date, the more I'm thinking about cancelling and just getting the 3 original films.

I haven't been compelled to rewatch any of the 2nd set of 3 films since I saw them theatrically. Perhaps they will be fun to see again. ?? I just remember them as being boring.

Are they as boring as I remember? Or was I expecting too much? Now that a decade has gone by, maybe they are better than we remember?

Well boring is a subjective thing so it's hard to answer if it would be boring to you. I think the PT has a lot of issues, but I wouldn't consider the last 2 to be boring persay. There is a lot of mindless action in them, and that can be boring to some people. TPM has a lot of political dialouge, and slapstick comedy which is personally boring to me, but I really don't like that one at all, so I am not a good one to ask on that. The love story in AOTC is also weighed down by clunky dialouge and that also can be boring to people. It's really just a personal preference, and while I don't think the AOTC and ROTS or boring. I definitly see the reasons of why it might be to some people. Now that is putting aside all of my issues with the plot of the films (which are plenty) and just if I think they are boring.

in all fairness, bluray is really just dvd with more room (more or less) - if they weren't using the features on the dvds, they are not going to use them on the bluray. i think in the end it comes down to the studio and how much they want to spend on the movie release. these features cost money and if they are not willing to spend, they won't. look at the remastered releases of Star Trek on bluray - there was demand so they released both the original and remastered versions using the angle function even though they didn't with the HD-DVD release. i think most studios just don't care enough to spend the money to use the technology to the fullest. but if the movie makers push them a bit, they might have to. with lucas and his talk of pushing the technology envelope, i am hoping the blurays of Star Wars will use some of these functions more and be the benchmark for what a bluray should be (one can hope).

Thanks. Good things to think about. I'm all in for the mindless action. Never boring to me.

But the love story and the political shenanigans I remember...ugh. There was probably only enough story for 1 solid prequel but they drug it out to 3. There's really no drama when you know how the movies going to turn out even when there's one prequel, but we had to sit through 3 events to learn what we knew was going to happen anyway.

Having said all that, I'll probably keep my 6 BD pre-order and suffer through those 3 bland prequels again. Ha. I love the original 3 though.

Having the OT in HD but with the same color-timing issues would pretty much undermine the entire point of the visual quality of the films. And of course, we all buy Blu-Ray for the picture and audio quality, so to have something about the picture and audio that bugs you wouldn't seem like it was worthwhile to pay for (especially when you're dealing with films people already own in various previous versions)."

I could not agree more!

C'mon guys, I know we're all huge SW geeks but it's important to have some standards in life.

Ideally I'd love for ILM to go through these movie with a fine tooth comb and make everything 100% consistent and improved. That would entail a billion tweaks though. However I think many of us will simply settle for a damn CG Yoda and some basic FX/audio and color fixes for GLARING problems from 2004 or before.

That is far from unreasonable or "nitpicky".

Anyway so far things r looking better so thats cool.
I definitely want the best quality possible. This better not be a lazy crash crab, but so far, it does indeed look promising.

I'd love it (ILM going in...) too, but I will be happy if said issues have been addressed.

GL could really make the OT look the way he always intended now, but I guess he is getting old, and tired of it!?!?

So I would assume that if they bothered to remaster Empire, and it did look stunning btw, that they would do the same for the other two. But then again, it is Lucas so who knows if we would ever see that print of the film again.
Did you spot any changes? Anyways, again, very promising!!!

I think this indicates that there might be new transfer, or at least fixes being done to the 2004 masters. And we'll get brand new audio mix.
I am getting more and more confident that this release will shine gloriously, and blow us away, errr, at least those who let it happen, and don't nitpick everything to death.

OMGosh!! This makes me wanna watch TPM right away!! Even in this clip the sound is pretty darn good. Is this a new mix??

I bet it's going to look and sound absolutely marvelous, as so far, it is pretty much confirmed that TPM has gotten a remaster, which makes perfect sense, since it's also going to be hitting theaters early next year!

Ah, I really miss the magic of TPM!!! I saw it 15 times, and can't wait to finally be able to see and hear it in the best quality since its theatrical release in about a month from now!!

It's going to be mind-blowing!

Yeah, I remember this too, and I wish they would finally do it for the BD, but I doubt it, or else it would have been announced already.

PS: I like Jar Jar as well! He was funny, but the tone was naturally going to be darker in AOTC and ROTS.

Imagine Jar Jar hopping around in ROTS, while Anakin is off to slaugther some younglings.

I'm not bothered at all about them not releasing the theatrical editions. I quite liked the 2004 version of the OT. The only things I want fixed are Han shooting first and the colours i.e. the pink lightsabers. To be honest, I'd like all the lightsabers replaced in the OT with new up-to-date ones and a digital Yoda in TPM (but I don't mind either way).

Great behind the scenes video from walmart.com about the podrace for the blu-ray box set. The podrace is still one of my favorite sequences from the prequels.

I don't do it often. But The Phantom Menace was a special case. 15 viewings of that. 10 of AotCs. And 3 of RotS.

Planned to see RotS more than that. But was kinda depressed after all the deaths of characters I liked.

I saw "Sith" twice in theaters, but I don't remember whether I saw "Clones" more than once during its original run. As for the rest, I wasn't even born until shortly after "Empire" came out, but I did see the SE of "New Hope" in '97. I didn't see the others, though, until they hit VHS.
