More than a few scenes would have to be replaced here and there.

A small example - the dewbacks in the background when the Troopers are searching the area where the pod came down. UOT proponents (like me) don't want the CGI dewbacks. That scene would have to be branched.

A bigger example - entering, exiting or even moving around Mos Eisley. It's a totally different place in the UOT and SEs. They can't just branch those differences in or out. They would have to branch the entire scenes.

Then you get into the really difficult stuff...color changes throughout, subtly (and sometimes not-so-subtly) CGIed skies and hills and cliffs, oh my.

On the surface it seems like a simple process but branching just isn't practical given the scope and scale of all the changes.

Maybe off topic a bit....

Is Star Wars - The Clone Wars a decent series? Will there be more than 3 seasons or is it over, what about the movie of the same set, is it any good?

That's what I used to think. But I've realized that the changes are far more extensive than I'd thought. There are a lot of little changes I'd never have noticed on my own.

Here's a breakdown of all the visual changes made to the films:
http://picasaweb.google.com/10254276...f-q3_afqngxeQ#
http://picasaweb.google.com/10254276...itionChangesHD
http://picasaweb.google.com/10254276...itionChangesHD

It'd be too complicated to use branching and remain accurate to the original versions.

The series is great especially if you are a prequel fan and some would argue that its better than the prequels. I think they planned for 5 seasons but I could see it going longer as it has been successful. Season 4 starts this fall. The movie is....ok. They basically put what would have been the few episodes together to make a movie and these weren't the strongest episodes. If you're a fan of the show, it's essential but if you are just getting started you might want to try a few of the more popular episodes to at least see if you like it.

With that said, there's a lot of variety in the episodes. Some episodes don't have Jedi. Some don't have Clones. Some are mysteries, some are action, etc. I would watch a handful to get started to get an overall feel for the show.

Great find. I am officially sick of seeing that screenshot posted (then posted again with fan corrections) so hopefully this will put an end to it.

It's even worse than that. Most, if not all, existing optical effects were recomposited for the DVD release, and also the wipe cuts were redone so that the degradation of the film during those wipes weren't visible. Now they start slightly earlier than in the original.

That new trailer is interesting. Even the lightsabers from the Prequels have been touched.

In one shot, yes. Other than that, all the lightsabers look to have been redone by ILM.

It was very apparent in the Dooku/Obi-Wan shot from Attack of the Clones. Obi-Wan's lightsaber was never that blue...

I have to admit...the Lucasfilm Archives section is looking more and more interesting. With the 360 degree models that come with behind the scenes interviews and footage pertaining to whatever you selected, it's looking really comprehensive in terms of the amount of bonus features we're getting.

Mace's lightsaber was never that purple. I mean, it's bright. I saw Episode II 16 times in the theatre and I don't know how many times on DVD. It was never that purple.

Um, Sam Jackson asked Lucas for a purple blade and was granted a purple blade.

It's accurate.

The only shot that has been redone was the crossed ones. But they remain the same in all other OT shots, but really pink, even more than they were in 2004. It looks like there is a colour shift in the trailer. Well we'll know in 30 days

That color shift, if there is one, will probably match the Prequels for the Originals.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he did it.
