EDIT: Ah, found it. Looks great. Can't wait. Red lightsaber, pink lightsaber, I couldn't care less.
Neither could i. Star Wars is Star Wars like it or lump it.

I agree it is getting rather ridiculous.
Just wait till 9/16 it's going to get a whole lot worse.

I live in the UK and my copy is from a PAL version which has slightly better quality than NTSC.

Seriously as I've aid before it's clear that people here and members on on theforce.net just have personal beefs with the guy for no reason. but thats what you get adywan for making and demanding everyone watch you starwars edit at gun point.
I am actually a member of OT.com and nothing would make me happier than to see the unaltered versions released on Blu.

Surprised?

RED

All the times I saw the pictures in the 70's and 80's original, reissues, 35mm, 70mm, Super8mm the lightsaber color was red. On books and articles too, and the original CBS US and japanese laserdiscs. If people today are thinking it's supposed to be another color because DVD video versions have tint/hue errors, they're in the wrong forum.

I curse the Backyardagains for taking over my television.

Their asses are taking a backseat when this set arrives at the house. He'll just have to be pissed at Daddy for a few days.

I'm going to devour the Saga boxset.

The cores themselves in certain shots in the OT had a colour tint due to the rotoscoping method used at the time. This was more visible depending upon the brightness of the transfer used. But please go back and look at the main outer glow of the lightsabres and please tell me if they are red or pink. If you say pink then i think it's time for you to get a new monitor.

Adywan

You were refering to the colour pink(and hence the core colour of the lightsaber and not it's glow)---that is why you wrote this:

"In one shot, yes. Other than that, all the lightsabers look to have been redone by ILM.
The only shot that has been redone was the crossed ones. But they remain the same in all other OT shots, but really pink, even more than they were in 2004. It looks like there is a colour shift in the trailer. Well we'll know in 30 days"

Are some people that blind (literally and figuratively w/ respect to their adoration for Lucas)?

Those sabers are pink. They did not used to be pink. Colors are even worse than in 2004. What more evidence does there need to be?

I've never met any other fanbase with people so desperate to give their money for a shoddy product. The lightsabers could have sparkles and people would find a way to rationalize it. It's truly sad.

I enjoy Star Wars as much as the next guy, but my enjoyment doesn't cause me to blindly accept whatever radical changes Lucas makes to the film.

So now some fans are defending the botched lightsabers for the 2004 DVD release!?!

The absurdity of some people in this thread never ceases to amaze me. Bravo!

What Adywan and everybody else is calling pink , is a hue shift towards magenta.
When you add blue to red it shifts magenta, when you add green, red shifts orange. What people are complaining about is a red lightsaber looking magentaish. which is an easy thing to do by turning your TV hue/tint control towards one side.

Also color negatives, internegatives, interpositives and prints as they age and fade turn magenta.

Btw Technicolor prints are made from dyes imbibed from 3-color separation matrixes made by separating the negative into 3-Bw records with RGB filters. Technicolor dyes basically don't fade but prints can still have color errors and shifts when made too.

well, for one, the first line you quoted wasn't even written by me. And secondly it was in reply about a shot that was changed/ fixed when the original poster thought that ILM had done the same kind of work to the other lightsabre shots seen in the trailer, but nowhere did i mention that i was talking about the cores. If you bothered to read my posts then you would see that myself, and others, were all talking about the glows being pink/magenta and nothing to do with the cores. It was clearly explained a while ago what we were talking about and it was also clear from the pictures i posted. If we were talking about the cores then surely we would have been saying that the some of the cores are now white instead of red because there were no pink cores in the close up picture i posted of vader on the gantry in ESB. Clear now?

well back on topic now, i wonder if we will be seeing more snippets from the blu-rays between now and September 12th?

From the new trailer, anyone wonder why they fixed the crossed lightsaber shot in Jedi but not in other lightsaber shots? Why not fix them all? This doesn't make sense.

That is where you are wrong.

The core of the lightsabers were always pink(apart from the 1997 special edition when they were changed to a slightly more redish tint--for whatever artistic reason)-----only to revert back to the more pinkish tint for the 2004 DVD.

I think its because it was that shot that was shown as an example so many times since the 2004 DVDs were released as to how bad the lightsabres looked.

Don't worry when the 12th rolls around we will know if what we are seeing is the result of messed up youtube coloring or if this is the actual end result.
