Your argument is invalid. You say, well why would they complain? I already said SW diehards don't complain because they are blind to the faults or they are submissive to them because they must have SW on blu-ray at all costs because it's so important to them. Ironically, you demonstrated my point multiple times and have shown that lack of logical argument that Lucasbots have. It's that simple - even you can understand it.

You guys block out the facts to rationalize your unwavering love for SW. It's honestly like debating with a five year old who can't even process certain concepts or accept any truths outside of the ones they hold so closely.
No they are not complaining because they are happy with what they are getting, simple, to the point and no complication, nothing to do with backbones or lack there off.

You say they are wrong that it's not complaining, only pointing out fact that you feel are not perfect with the release.

They say you are wrong, that it's complaining and they don't see anything wrong with the release and are happy.

Who is wrong and who is right? Who is complaining and who is not? The fact of the matter is, you are not happy with it and that is alright and they are happy with it and that is alright as well. As long as no silly name calling goes on (which at this point you seem to have a very hard time with when someone is not on your side of things) who can win the argument? You because you are poiting out flaws that you feel are obvious? They are not so obvious to others because for them it's not an issue...so once again who is wrong and who is right?

The fact of the matter is, nothing about this release or the next will make you and the others happy unless you get the things you want, it may well be a very long wait but you are more then welcome to wait for it.

The tonality was always pink:

These are screen shots from an original 1977 technicolor print.

It may have been subjected to slight degradation and be marginally pink shifted but is an accurate representation of what the film looked like:

Note the colour of Vader's saber(it is definitely not red--although it has a mild red glow):

Here is the 1982 VHS tape(again Vader's saber is pink---which is faithful to the original cinematic print):

Next up is a foto from a 1986 broadcast on ITV(UK TV)---it actually contains the mono audio track and has a slightly different colour pallette to the 1982 VHS tape.
But what retains it's tonality---you guessed it---Vader's predominantly pink saber:

Below is the 1997 special edition:

So the fact of the matter is that the so called "messed up lightsaber's colour in the 2004 DVD " is nothing more than misinformation at best and disinformation at worst.

The 2004 DVD lightsaber's colour tone reflected the original.

Case closed.

all i can think from watching that new trailer is that if you were a fan of the original movies and you got cast in the new ones, you must have had the biggest letdown in your life. you imagine these sets and then you go spend your days swinging your lightsaber at a little ball in the air infront of a blue screen. i think if some had not signed 3 picture deals, we could have seen a lot of recasting between movies.

My feelings also..saw ANH back in '77 at age 8. The tired, played arguments that pop up at the mere whisper of Star Wars nowadays make being a fan a tough slog sometimes. In information forums like this the signal to noise ratio gets awfully distorted.

Very excited about the new trailer..can't wait to have these in home and check them out.

Well said (not surprising since you're a Dawg fan , and I agree with you guys. Some of the stuff in here is really silly.

I love the movies (even though I have critiques of the PT). I have lists of the SW figures I got in the 80's and the late 90's. I let my kids open my unopened items worth, sometimes, a few hundre $$.

I don't care about pink lightsabers, Greedo shooting first, etc. These are movies, which I believe are intended to entertain. "They do their job well" in my house.

Ok I can't watch the new trailer here at work, but are people saying that Hoth is now white, and some of the OT lightsaber shots have been fixed?

I don't have any stake in this debate but your evidence is tenuous, to say the least. If you had a color-accurate scan of an archival IB print, that would be good evidence. Photos of god-knows-what and VHS tapes are hardly convincing.

Question Star Wars commentaries

I'll double-post this one on the LaserDisc thread as well. For nostalgia's sake and in preparation for my much-awaited jump to Star Wars from LD to BD, I have been rewatching the 1993 OT Definitive Collection with the original audio commentaries. They are sparse and leave you wanting more, but they are the first SW audio commentaries, so for this completist, that's reason enough to appreciate. The 2004 DVD editions had different audio commentaries again. Do we know the details of the BD commentaries? Are they completely new? Will the LaserDisc commentaries be carried over, or are they yet again left behind on LD only?

The BD have two commentary tracks for each movie. One is from the 2004 versions, and the other is from archive interviews. As such, only the latter is completely new.

You're basing you "Darth Vader's lightsaber was magenta" from pics made with a camera from a screen (which look horribly magenta in those pics)?? And VHS releases and TV broadcasts recorded from the air etc, when VHS has chroma phase errors up the wazoo?

I've seen it all now

Never ever remotedly while watching Darth Vader in the CINEMA, i ever thought, wow that lightsaber looks magenta always evil red (Yeah and since a lightsaber emits light, in its center the red desaturating to white, making the cinematic illusion that it was a very powerful energy that could cut through everything like a molten white hot core of a sun).

Seems I will need to administer soon some of my drops of special bottle potion

The saber cross from ROTJ is corrected and the force fanfare music is restored back in the ANH sound mix for the blu-rays and people are still complaining about the sabers in ESB? Their always something to wine about.

Most of the fans defending the pink lightsabers operate on faith and don't understand such technical details such as chroma phase errors. It has been explained numerous times in this thread why the color timing changes caused pink lightsabers, solid lightsaber cores, and that infamous lightsaber cross in RotJ. People believe what they want to believe and no rational argument will persuade them.

I think some people forget how amazing it was when Luke lit his GREEN lightsabre in Return of the Jedi. It was a totally new colour for audience who had only been used to RED and BLUE. I'm sure we'd remember arguments we would have had over a PINK or MAGENTA light sabre: I can't remember any.

Probably because it's not consistent. Ever thought about that? If they had done their job right, there wouldn't be no need to complain. Why fix a shot, and leave the rest the same?

Trailer looks goods but I guess I'm just drinking the GL koolaid according to Georgecc.

Really makes me wonder how some of these people function outside of these forums. Taking jabs at people over liking an upcoming release seems pretty mature....

Those issues don't bother me ok they just don't. If it bothers some fans that's fine but that's their opinion about them.

This is closer of how the thing should look, and still it has too much magenta highlights and green shadows (color crossover error it's called in photographic chemistry)
