Would love to grab a copy of the new trailer in 1080p. Anyone know how to do this? Yahoo US only has it up to 780p.

It's on youtube:

To download the video, if you are using firefox, just install the add on named " easy YouTube video downloader", restart firefox, then when you watch the video you will see the option to download the video

When you add blue to red it shifts magenta, when you add green, red shifts orange. What people are complaining about is a red lightsaber looking magentaish. which is an easy thing to do by turning your TV hue/tint control towards one side.

Also color negatives, internegatives, interpositives and prints as they age and fade turn magenta.

Btw Technicolor prints are made from dyes imbibed from 3-color separation matrixes made by separating the negative into 3-Bw records with RGB filters. Technicolor dyes basically don't fade but prints can still have color errors and shifts when made too.
If you're referring to 3-strip Technicolor, the last such film was made in 1952 (aside from restorations). It's rumored that there was a dye-transfer Technicolor print made of the original Star Wars, but it wasn't 3-strip. And note that it was made in the UK because Technicolor closed down their dye-transfer lab in the U.S. in 1974 after making prints for "The Godfather, Pt II". The British line was shut down in 1978 and sold to the Chinese. The Chinese line was shut down in 1993. The dye-transfer process was re-introduced for major film production in 1997, but shut down again in 2002 when Technicolor was sold to Thomson.

And my understanding is that it's not that Technicolor prints don't fade -- it's that you can always (or were always) able to go back to the black and white 3-strip negative and make a new color print. It's the black and white negative that wasn't subject to fading.

From Wiki:

Quote:
An article[26] on the restoration of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope claimed that a rare dye-transfer print of the movie, made for director George Lucas at the British Technicolor lab during its initial run, had been used as a color reference for the restoration. The article claimed that conventional color prints of the movie had all degraded over the years to the extent that no two had the same color balance. However, because of the variation in color balance per print, dye-transfer prints are used in the professional restoration world as only a rough guideline.

Two screenshots from the 1080p version. Obviously there's no way you can judge fine detail etc from a YouTube video but you can see significant changes. At least some of the issues brought up regarding the 2004 release appear to have been rectified.

With that new trailer showing discart I'd assume the simpler discart featured so prominently wasn't final?

From Wiki:
When you make a Technicolor print, you have to separate the neg into RGB. What you're talking about is films filmed in Technicolor, in which the original camera negative is 3 records of Black and White exposed through RGB filters in the camera. But to make a Technicolor print you need the color separated, so from normal (Eastmancolor and the like) color negatives, you still have to separate the color to the 3 inbibition dye matrixes.

The part about Technicolr prints not fading comes from the color dyes being different from normal color film dyes that fade much quicker. Technicolor dyes are more like CMY inks on a printed page of a book that don't appreciably fade with the years

I just watched that exact same trailer. Pause it at the 0:24 mark when the sabers are crossed....not only is Vader's saber pink, but the color on Luke's is completely out of whack too. It's not even close to an actual shade of blue.

You and I see that. Others don't.

These images are brightened versions of the 2004 transfers. Same problems. The people saying it looks great and everything is fixed are looking at the sharpness of the image rather than the color.

That scene is from Return of the Jedi in which Luke uses a green lightsaber.

Note that I'm not defending nor denying the actual problems that have been pointed out with some images (I do agree that the shade of Vader's saber is off from what it should be), but Luke's saber is not supposed to be blue in that scene (or at any point in that entire movie).

I am thinking they must have got the Lightsaber on the Falcon. Was a pretty big complaint next to the crossed sabers. Nice to see they kinda, sorta addressed the black crush too. Will be interesting to see how it all comes together. I don't think any of us will be as disappointed as we were in 2004. At least there shouldn't be any real noticible "WTF?!?" moments this time around.
Yeah, I'd actually be shocked if the Falcon saber shot isn't fixed. I think the whole thing will be a definite improvement over what we got in 2004 in terms of all the issues that popped up back then. The black crush seems to have been addressed somewhat and we've seen the improved saber cross. Let's hope there are more fixes and I think there will be. I think it will be a case of some but not all issues fixed. They always seem to take care of some issues but leave others behind, or in the case of 2004, create issues that never existed before. Sadly, I think it's going to be a mixture of pink and red for the sabers, sort of like Vader's version of a mood ring.

Considering that it's Star Wars and they've had seven years to fix the flaws from 2004 and there hasn't been a new Star Wars film in six years, it should be nothing less than reference quality. Whether we get that or not remains to be seen but I definitely think some of the issues will have been fixed. I'm definitely looking forward to early reviews.

Uhh, Vader's saber at the end looked pretty pink to me...

No. The scene at 0:24 is from TESB when Luke initially confronts Vader. The shot towards the end of the trailer with the Emperor is from Jedi.

Oh sorry, I thought you were referring to the saber-crossing scene from ROTJ. Yeah, I do agree that the coloring is very off in that shot from TESB. Luke's saber almost looks purple, at least while he's holding it still. It kind of looked a little blue to me once he started swinging it around, but it's still FAR off from where it should be.

Actually, the video that Kenkraly2004 linked is for the International version. The American version, which is also in 1080p on Star Wars' YouTube channel, comes right after the International version on their playlist. Same trailer, but with the storybook case and lack of disc art (F***ing lame!)

American Version Full Trailer 1080p:

Uggh, why isn't the American version the same as the International version? The disc art is so much better, or at least existent, and they come in individual cases, as opposed to slide-in/out storybook casing, which makes me worry about scratches.

I can't believe that we bother over the colours of lightsabres still, and gloss over the fact that the series was downgraded entirely after the introduction of Ewoks. Or was it actually downhill after the cantina band scene? Content is more important than colour.

It's all part of the same cycle of Lucas selling out and milking this franchise dead.
