Your case is not good and it shuts down nothing. Your hypothetical reasoning is irrelevant, unsubstantial, and ineffective. I win the debate with visual evidence against your lack of vision, though I commend your trolling and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nobody on here can argue with the facts and history of older SW prints. Adywan and others have done a great job compiling all the data. I can't speak for others but I do come in peace. This is a forum for discussion about the discs, and if there are flaws then they will be exposed.

Star Wars is the only movie franchise in which these alterations and errors are condoned unquestionably. Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox can put out anything because 99% of the fans gotta have it no matter what. In nearly every other case these botch jobs will face more blowback and consumer unrest, as they should. You pay for top quality, you expect top quality. If you don't get that, you bring it to the studio's attention.

Gladiator had major issues, the consumers complained, and the studio corrected it. If a studio messed with The Godfather, for example, you bet your ass the fans would speak up. Regrettably New Line added an awful green tint to The Fellowship of the Ring, and the complaints have gone ignored.

Even The Big Lebowski underwent some awful DNR on the blu ray. These issues are becoming absurd and Star Wars is no exception, although the problems existed long before this blu-ray release dating back to 2004. Anyone in denial because it's SW on blu-ray needs a reality check and that's what I hope this board provides. This discussion is legitimate, fair, and truthful.

'The ILM duo also revealed that some work was needed before the original trilogy was fit for Blu-ray, although fans will be happy that was confined to improving the picture quality, rather than fiddling with the films themselves: "The interesting thing about Star Wars and the Star Wars series of films is that they’ve been restored two or three times in the past decade, and so they were in pretty good shape to begin with.," said Bill George.

"I do know that they went in and made some colour corrections on the lightsabers, because they were getting a little bit funky. But I don’t think they went in and did any pantyline removal, or anything like that."

Guess that means Greedo is still getting in first then!
We still have the faintest of hopes that the trailer is not from the source material, lets face it, Vaders sabre is on the funky 'PINK' side.

Its a shame on this forum that a lot of the ACTUAL information on the set goes unseen because of all of the playground banter and trolling.

Would ILM (you know, the people in charge of the FX) consider the sabres to be funky if they were meant to be the colour they currently are on the 2004 transfer? Clearly bright pink is not what was supposed to be on screen. If you like it that way, I hope you will be in for a shock come release day, but part of me doubts it. Then your arguments will be that it is a dark shade of pink, not red.

IGN is going to a Wednesday Star Wars special each week leading up to the release of the Blu Rays:

Here is the first article, a interview with Jeremy Bulloch (nothing about the Blu Rays in particular).
http://uk.bluray.ign.com/articles/118/1187309p1.html

Haven't seen this posted yet.

Dang, for a man who has less screen time than the rancor, he is milking this release for all it is worth. Must be building up his pension, good on you Mr. Bulloch.

Dudes

I have a friend who knows this guy who, like, works for Lucasfilm and knows another friends-brothers-cousin who had access to the only surviving "true fan" prints of the original Star Wars saga. He informed me that Vader's Lightsaber was actually yellow, because no pink or red crystal existed at this point in time. It makes perfect sense now.

Wrong. I color checked them in Photoshop. The cores are white and the glow is red. No pink to be found. If I must screen grab to prove it I will, but I would rather not waste either of our time.

what's with the obsession with the original cuts?

1. you wont get them so stop trolling
2. the updated versions bury the original cuts, due to scenes and effects added it makes it all for a better version. It is also closer to GL vision as he couldn't finish them due to restraints.

Besides i would like to see further additions made on Blu Ray to the OT?

1. a communicay with the emperor in ANH
2. Vader scenes added back in or just add in ROTJ, like the scene where Vader goes to see the Emperor and force choke the guards.
3. luke completing his light saber in Jedi
4. All of the scenes in the recent released video(see No 3)
5. Anakin's face in the unmasking in Jedi
6. a reference from Vader to Luke regarding Padme
7. more on lukes training, lightsaber combat ect....
8. an extended battle at the end of jedi, probably adding old naboo, jedi, clone troopers fighters along with huge dogfights.
9. more dogfights in ANH battle.

Sometimes i just feel as though ANH didn't feature Vader enough! even adding the imperial march at as Vader boards the Tantive would be good.

These are just my thoughts, but tbh the original trilogy is gone and if you were to watch it, it will be way out of date and wont look right.

And that is a small amount of the marketing and merchandise showing Vader. My statement is not incorrect. If your going to say that then I can say that it is incorrect to call Luke's lightsaber blue because it is green for a few seconds in a new hope. When did people seriously begin entertaining the notion that Vader's saber is not red? This retconing BS to explain away poor adjustments to these films gets old. Vaders saber has always been red not magenta. I don't understand why its so fraking hard to make his saber red. Vader does not have a pinkish purple magenta lightsaber. Its retarded and goes against what is established for the sith. I guess vader is special though. Nothing more intimidating than a dark mass murdering overlord rocking a pink lightsaber. Magenta screams death and destruction. It has always been the symbol of blood and war, after all. Oh wait, that's not right. RED is the symbol of blood and war.

I swear Star Wars fans just try to find reasons to complain nowadays. We're finally getting them on Blu-ray yet people just moan about Lightsaber colours before we've seen the actual films on Blu-ray.

Still discussing (read: arguing) about lightsaber colors! Epic!

Actually 3-strip Technicolor lasted longer than 1952. Although Kodak offered the first professional single-strip color negative stock in 1953, many productions were still made with 3-strip cameras through 1955. About 250 films post-1952 were shot 3-strip.
Quote:
It's rumored that there was a dye-transfer Technicolor print made of the original Star Wars, but it wasn't 3-strip. And note that it was made in the UK because Technicolor closed down their dye-transfer lab in the U.S. in 1974 after making prints for "The Godfather, Pt II". The British line was shut down in 1978 and sold to the Chinese. The Chinese line was shut down in 1993. The dye-transfer process was re-introduced for major film production in 1997, but shut down again in 2002 when Technicolor was sold to Thomson.
It is more than a rumor. I have seen a dye transfer print of Star Wars and it was in fact stuck in the UK.
Quote:
And my understanding is that it's not that Technicolor prints don't fade -- it's that you can always (or were always) able to go back to the black and white 3-strip negative and make a new color print. It's the black and white negative that wasn't subject to fading.
Yes, it is true that the B&W negatives will not fade but neither will the actual dye transfer prints. The dyes used were very stable and I have seen Technicolor prints from the 30's and early 40's on nitrate stock that showed no sign of fading. The sorry truth that it will almost without doubt be the nitrate or acetate film base that will cease to be due to a lack of stability rather than the Technicolor dyes which are of archival quality.

Next thing you know people will be complaining that lukes hair is the wrong color or lando isn't black enough. Seriously people calm down. Like I said way back like 100 or so posts ago. Just be happy and enjoy having an excuse for taking the day off work to watch some good sci-fi film making. lets face it, Star Wars will never look like what you personally want it to look like. Especially when everyone's hopes are so high. So just let it go and enjoy the fact that (A) were getting the films at all (B) were getting loads of new special features, and (C) we all have an excuse to invite people over and enjoy the films with family & friends.
