I took some caps from the first 6ish minutes of Episode 3. Threw some frames from the OP and fast moving sequences in there just because. I'll be interested to see how Hanabee's release fares in comparison. It's not the first time they've re-encoded files before since they further compressed Viz's Accel World Blurays to fit a BD50 and BD25. I'd imagine brightness should be okay since it's consistently Madman that cocks that up. (009, F/Z, SAO II)

It wasn't, of course (why would it be the first ep on the disc if I pick the first ep on the list in MakeMKV? ) the first episode on the disc, episode 3, but I just found that spot in the OP.

BTW something I noticed recently is Blu-raydefinition.com has changed a bit. Their newer reviews no longer include big screencaps, so with Blu-ray.com no longer really doing anime reviews, and Blu-raydefinition changing things for the worst, getting screencaps is now much, much harder. You have to rely on Sensuifu (though sadly he doesn't talk about how the video quality is overall when he posts the caps) and anyone else who posts caps here in the anime forum (mainly this thread).

Also thinking of bringing in much older caps (many of Sensuifu's I didn't post before, many old hissatsu comparisons, and some stuff from here) into this thread to help make things more comprehensive.

Yeah, sad to see BR Definition (named TheaterByte now) no longer providing full hd screencaps, I remember using some of theirs for a few of my comparisons.

Woah, hold the phone. Are those English translated Credits I see for AGK? I don't know whether to be mad at Sentai or applaud them for at least attempting to match the Japanese style. I take it Parasyte also received the same treatment?

I'm also surprised how good those caps seem to look. Despite the fact that their encoder still cannot seem to encode text well in the slightest, on the whole they seem to the only ones who still actually care about the quality of their end product, both packaging and on disc.

Akame ga Kill has some pretty bad banding.

IIRC, Naiera said there was plenty of terrible banding, so we might have problems on this one, particularly in motion. This is a dark show (pun intended), and there are a bunch of scenes that take place at night when it's dark, so banding is bound to crop up.

As for them caring about packaging and such, I wouldn't really say that much about Sentai's regular releases (ADV on the other hand....). They stopped using good BD cases for over a year now and (with a select few exceptions) have been using those stupid very thin lockable BD cases (please stop it Sentai, STOP IT...). They also are rather cheap with JP on-disc extras, we're missing say the "making of" extras for both Chu2koi and Akame ga Kill!, and hell, the Maiden Japan release of Den-noh Coil is missing tons of extras which Siren Visual got in Australia.

I was talking about OP/ED. Sentai translated the credits and didn't do the black screen credit roll.
