Yeah. Scream Factory, you have my thanks for all you do, but I don't need this.

I was hoping for a new editions (and almost certainly a 4K remasters) of Carrie (despite what they said about it few years ago) or The Thing.

Or something new to Blu-ray. Definitely not TCM2.

I have no idea how this is going to improve on what the existing US release (nevermind the Arrow one), unless they've found better elements for the deleted gore stuff and plan to restore them to the film (highly unlikely).

Is this their only announcement for today or are there more to come?

With the imminent release of true 4k titles wouldn't it make sense for Universal to release a 4k disc of The Thing themselves? There have been some great catalog releases lately but quite a few disappointing announcements as well. I wonder if BD releases are being hampered by the wave of 4k BDs waiting in the wings?

TCM2 was their "big Halloween announcement".

Damn it and I just got the MGM release of TCM 2. Guess I will be getting rid of that to get the Scream Factory version. I hope they have a lot of extras maybe it will be as good as the Arrow Release of TCM 2. It is disappointing though because their are so many other horror films that need to be released on bluray and are not.

Sorry. There is no wave of 4k BDs waiting in the wings.

I will add my voice to those who are supportive of Scream factory...but TCM2?

Does anybody honestly think this is a big announcement?

Considering how long we've waited already do you happen to have any idea how long Scream Factory has licensed Phantasm II for? Since a complete box set through Image seems to be the recurring message, perhaps that's what's been the hold up? Maybe Image is just waiting on the rights to expire before it does anything. By that point Ravager should be in some kind of releasable form as well making it a true complete collection. If we're talking 10 years from now, obviously that's not going to happen...but if we're two or three years from that license expiring then perhaps that's what's going on.

I saw and purchased The Return of Count Yorga at Movie Stop earlier today.

It's probably pretty daft of me to make a blind buy of this without having made my way to watching my Twilight Time Blu-ray of Count Yorga, Vampire yet, but I've heard enough good things about both.

In Scream's defense, they never said that today's announcement is a big one.

Yes, a 4K remaster or UHD release from Uni themselves is a possibility, but, in that case, we would have to wait until late 2017 and its 35th Anniversary before they release it.

Im not sure of the length Scream has Phantasm II for, but since Universal owns it they can do what they want with it unless Scream has exclusive rights. Universal is a huge studio and Im sure negotiations for Phantasm II arent high on their priority list, and since they are working on blurays for the sequels of many Universal classics (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc) ..plus whatever else they are doing, who knows how long it will take.
This is just my speculation , the best guestimate based on what I hear from those in the industry.
You might have seen some deals are now being split into DVD rights and blu ray rights for titles (not Phantasm related) so who knows what the barriers or limits are for licensing titles.
What would be REALLY cool is another co-label set with Image handling Phantasm 1,3,4 and Shout providing Part II PLUS creating bonus content for all 4 films. I dont know how feasible that is but it sure does sound nice

This reminds me, I'm having a brain fart at the moment but which sequel had a line that Les Claypool (Primus) uttered in their tune "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver." The line starts with a little hee hee hee, then "Dog will hunt." I'm certain it's from one of the TCM sequels.

The documentary on the existing TCM2 discs is actually not that great, IMO. I got bored halfway through and stopped watching it. So I would actually welcome some better documentary extras. Also the picture quality, even on the Arrow, is pretty poor most of the time. If Scream could do some kind of restoration I would welcome it, personally.

I know TCM2 is a divisive movie though. Personally when I like horror it's always campy, cheesy 80's horror, so TCM2 fits right into that.

Well Part III is with Warner so forget about it.. Part IV I think its with Sony(??)

I think sometimes we build our hopes a little too high. They obviously dont have The Thing or the Fly II or anything really *big* like that. Some titles are really just out of reach and some deals just cant be made. The hardest deals are the ones where you deal with the owner of the film itself. They want an obscene out of money for their titles ( Dawn of the Dead, Fade to Black, Legend of the Werewolf, The Ghoul)
